1. When I started doing BV's I knew I sang flat, so acquired this from another basschatter. https://www.amazon.c...r/dp/B002W0Z8DU Mainly because it had an auto tune function. However it also has a harmoniser that you can set to a 3rd or a 5th or an octave, above or below. its set to 1 footswitch, either on or off, so simple to use. if used sparingly it can work, but just having it all the time does start to sound a bit weird. As I got more confident with singing BV it got used less and less to be honest.
2.
On the few occasions it has happened I have questioned it with the payer and been told it's a bonus for doing a good job.
That's why we mention it....its nice to have that kind of feedback!!
3. Just finished 'the craft room', bloody hell mate what goes on in your head!!! Excellent read.....literally couldn't putvit down...roll on the next one!
4. Also bear in mind that sitting at home practicing you might hear the strings clicking on the frets, but at gig volume, unless that noise is being transmitted to the amp, it will be lost. I almost always practice at home through headphones so I rarely hear any 'mechanical' noise. Just a thought. Ooh and another one, maybe your pickup is too high and the strings are hitting the pole pieces?
5.
I once played Pino's fretless Stingray and I also sat on the table next to Roscoe Beck at the Jazz Cafe whilst he ate his dinner.
Gotta be so careful with speed reading...I thought you said 'ate his drummer'!!!!!!!!
6.
At weddings at some point our singer will say to the crowd,"We'd just like to take a couple of minutes to introduce ourselves",at which point we all proceed to shake hands with each other.Always gets a laugh.
I like that..might have to nick it....gotta be better than me trying to do a bass solo at introduction time!!... The mental image is vaguely Bonzo Dog Doodah Band!!!
7.
So say "that's four more than you
HA! that'll do it!!
8. Anything by U2..start em off easy! joking aside, one of the first tunes I learned when I picked up a bass was 'With or Without You' A very satisfying feeling when you realise you can play along to a whole song after about 20 mins practice!
9. Opening Song can often be U2, 'Vertigo' so our singists 1st words are 'Unos, Dos, Trez, CLITORIS!' I never know if to cringe or smirk
10.
. I still have the odd burst of levity if I'm feeling particularly flighty though.
Now there's a mental image to cheer up a grey day! Thanks Shell!
11. Come back Fumps and Shergold Snickers..all is forgiven....although we still have Skank to keep us (in)sane!
12. Fair play to you all, hope you have a cracking gig!!
13.
Thanks for the welcome. Have friend's in N'ampton but I'm further east between Corby and Peterborough
Hmm, do you jam with Owen Edwards perchance? he lives over that way as I recall.
14.
But, some old school, advice, start trying to play along to your favourite songs. Don't worry too much about the actual basslines, start by trying to follow the chords and the rhythm , just playing root notes. In my (somewhat limited) experience, people give up on playing an instrument because they get bored doing endless scales and exercises. A bit of real world application is a lot more fun. The rest comes along the way.
I would definitely agree with this, I started by playing along with my favourite bands, and within 3 months had joined a band, covering...my fave bands of the time. Playing with other people really helps you learn A LOT in a short space of time. Good luck however you do it!
15. My B3 fits nicely into a laptop bag which also holds instrument cables, power leads and other odd and sods. I've probably got an old one going begging if you are interested.
16. Thumbs up from me...tnx for sharing!
17.
Does he do chrome on a brass plate? If so, could have save me a load of trouble!
Tims stuff is a photo image on clear acrylic, so not an actual chrome over brass plate...it just looks like that from a distance. Hope this helps.
18. I think the original post may have been in connection with a build documented here Neil, in which case I think he is sorted now. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/302963-finished-a-bridge-too-far/
19. 23. Tim is a graphic designer by trade and is very good at tweaking ideas to make just what you want, he has a done a couple for me, and I started with just a vague thought in my head both times! He is based in Bedford, so not too far from you Osiris, he makes very good coffee, so well worth a phone call I would say!!
