1. Traded a set of strings with Lozz, arrived well packed the day after he'd sent them, top Basschatter!
2. Hi all, I picked up a set of Bass Centre Elites Flats recently but I don't think they're for me, so I'd like to swap for a set of heavy-gauge rounds, preferably 50-110 or thereabouts. I've had them for 2 weeks and they've seen minimal use, and the member I bought them from hadn't used them much either. Cut for a 4 string Fender.
3. Paul sold me a set of (practically new) Elites Flats for a very good price. Paid him Monday evening, he had them in the post on Tuesday morning and they were waiting for me when I got back home on Wednesday! Top bloke, trade with confidence!
4.
Is the blue CV precision still around? I could only get hold of the tomato soup red one... I got a Squier Mikey Way mustang for my sister and it felt more Vintage Modified level than the Classic Vibe I had, but I haven't tried those other ones you mentioned. I just found out there's an olympic white Matt Freeman P! Wish I knew about that when I got my tomato soup CV.
Nah, the blue ones been discontinued I think, I'm always on the look out for a decent second hand one though. To be honest I'd forgotten about the Mikey Way Mustang, and looking at the Squier site there are a few others as well that are about the same price bracket as the VM range, all coming out of the same factory in Indonesia. The Artist Series instruments made in China though are from the CV factory, and are every bit as good as the CVs, or at least the ones I've tried were, certainly not on the same level as the VMs. I guess the price tag would act as a guide.
5.
It depends how good the matt freeman one is... is it vintage modified kind of quality or up to the classic vibe standard? my classic vibe precision was ridiculously good.
I'm led to believe that the Artist Series Squiers like the Matt Freeman Precision and the J Mascis Jazzmaster are at least as good as the CVs. They're certainly all made in the same factory in China, whereas the VMs are Indonesian-made IIRC. The Matt Freeman in black and the CV Precision in Sonic Blue both interest me more than any of these new ones.
6. On face value it all looks legit, and the decal is meant to replicate the one on Marcus' own Jazz as in the 70s Fender's headstock logos were all over the place. I just don't understand why you would want or need through-body stringing when there's already a Badass II on there. I take it the bridge is different?
7. Would do a swap for some decent heavy gauge strings, preferably flats.
8. How much weight would you save by swapping from the stock bridge (I assume it's stainless steel) to an aluminium one? Would it even be noticeable? They don't really weigh much as it is.
9. I've seen those necks on eBay, been thinking about getting one for a while. How is it? Do you think the neck not fitting is down to the neck heel not being wide enough or the routing of the neck pocket being too large?
10. I've decided to add some more pictures and information. Previously I'd been emailing this stuff to any interested parties, but for ease of sale I'm just going to stick it all on here. The scratchplate for sale here is a bit rough, the cutout for the pickup and the neck aren't very clean. For comparison, you can see the Bass Doc scratchplate on the top in the pics, and the one I'm currently using underneath. You can see the difference for yourself. The rest of the scratchplate is fine though.
11. I've had my Tele for about a month now and had it strung with whatever silly strings it came with, 9s or something and they were far too weedy for me. Today I finally got round to sticking on a set of Skinny Top Heavy Bottoms (10-52) and the difference is incredible, nice and light for bending up top, then nice and chunky for for chords on the bottom. I've been able to lower the action a fair bit too.
12. I did something similar and used a green pan scourer on a Black & Decker Mouse on my old Epiphone SG and it was great, the neck was smooth and fast and the body was much more resonant. It's so easy to do and it made it much more playable.
13. I'd say if the tech has wired it up correctly and the output is still low, it's the pickup. I'd just pull it out and replace it with this if I were you: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/238112-wizard-high-output-51-precision-pick-up/page__p__2475658__hl__wizard%2051__fromsearch__1#entry2475658
14. Is this any good to you? http://www.buzzardsbass.com/parts/thumb-rests/thumbrest-template.jpg
15. Bought a P Bass scratchplate off of the member known as bassbiscuits, it's every bit as good as he said it was, well packaged and quickly delivered. Could you ask for more? Cheers fella!
16. It should be 91mm for a neck pickup and 94 for the bridge.
17.
Ah! Why doesn't it run through the body, never seen seen one "externally" wired before, and I'm sure it it wouldn't be originally made that way?
It's not a wire, it's a strip of brass that runs from the bridge to a brass grounding plate beneath the pickup. It's how original Fender Jazz basses were made. It wouldn't have been seen under the bridge cover, which were intended to stay on.
18. Is that a Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster? I was thinking of getting one and watched a few YouTube reviews, and there was one where the fella was playing it through a Musicmaster amp, sounded really good!
