1. A bit of a feeler here, I've got a set of Newtone custom order high tension strings, brand new and still in their packaging. I bought them as my band tunes down 3 semitones and the Rotosounds I had on my P Bass didn't have enough tension for my liking and would flap around wildly when played hard. The idea with the Newtones is they use standard windings over a thicker core to retain the same tension at a lower tuning as you would get with regular strings when tuned to E standard. I planned on putting these on my P Bass but they took six weeks to arrive as they were a custom order, but in that time I discovered that the DR Fat Beams I put on my Peavey Foundation are exactly what I was after, so I probably wont use these now. I paid £30 plus postage for these, I'm asking for £25 & postage, and you wont have to wait the best part of 2 months for them to arrive!
2. Did the Bass Doc not cut his tort guards from WD blanks?
3. Ryan Adams' version of Wonderwall.
4. Talk about bad timing; last week I was outbid on a Blazer at the last second on Ebay, but later that day I found a new Squier Matt Freeman Precision for less than half price (someone had bought it & never used it, still had the plastic on the scratchplate & pickups so that counts as new in my book!). If I'd not bought the Squier I'd have had this off you already, the Matt Freeman's been on my GAS list for a while but so has a Blazer and there's no contest between that and one of these. Good luck with the sale!
5. Top marks to Cliff, I bought some Schaller tuners from him on Tuesday, sent them off the same day and they were waiting when I got back from work this evening. Absolutely perfect, as described, and very well packaged as well!
6. If the first three characters of the serial are 'MN8', then M=Mexico, N8=Ninety-8. My P & J basses were MZ0 (Mexico '00) and MZ4 (Mexico '04) respectively.
7. Cheers ped! Never used Elixirs before but won't turn my nose up at a freebie!
8. That looks very nice! Is the E string at an angle past the nut onto the peg or is it just a trick of the camera?

10. Set of 4 Fender Geddy Lee Jazz Bass tuners in chrome. Late 60s - early 70s baseplate. I bought these 6 months ago for my P Bass but I've just bought a set of Schallers so these are surplus. Excellent condition, and all fixing screws have been replaced with larger ones. Just looking to get back what I paid, £25 plus post (about £3). Here's a picture of them in situ, can take more if requested: EDIT: Bushings included.
11. I like the 44-64 US Classic. Am I the only one that doesn't like block necks? I think they look a bit tacky. IMO, of course.
12.
I don't think they were common enough to make parts sourcing easy - Some people think they're worth a lot: Definitely on my to try list. If it's priced appropriately it could be well worth it. Be aware some of the parts are custom made for that model (sliding cover and some other parts I think) so if they're missing they may need to be made up at considerable cost.
The only bits that need to be replaced are the nut and saddles, everything else is present and correct. The nut and saddles are there as well, but the guy offering it recommends that they be replaced sooner rather than later, and they're bot relatively easy to get hold of, they needn't be originals.
You'd be best PM'ing Neepheed. I think he's got a re-fin one.
Cheers, I'll send him a message just now.
13. I've been offered a Gibson Grabber in a trade. It's a '77 with the sliding pickup. It's in need of some TLC, a new nut, bridge saddles, a rewire and a good scrub, but other than that it appears it's in decent nick for its age (although I've not yet seen it in the flesh). Can anyone tell me much about them, and if it'll be worthwhile given the work that needs doing?
14. I had a bass delivered by UK Mail recently. It was meant to be a 24-hour tracked service. For ages the online tracking info wasn't updated after it had been collected, but showed that it was due to be delivered the following day (a Thursday). On the Thursday afternoon after it should have been delivered, the details were updated to 'Delayed'. I called the helpline to find out what was happening and was informed that the van taking the bass to one of the depots had arrived after the van that was due to take it on to the next depot had already left. Pretty annoyed that they would let that happen when you're paying specifically for a next day service.
15. You may be aware that I recently bought a Peavey Foundation that was in very bad nick that I've been attempting to tidy up. One of the things I bought was a new wiring loom from KiOgon, only I didn't realise that the new pots and switch wouldn't fit in the existing holes in the body. My brother (who's a joiner) was staying with me last week and brought his drill with him and we drilled out the holes for the new pots & switch - 2 minutes, dead easy. However, Peavey UK only went and listed a couple of NOS Foundation bodies on ebay for £20 each, so i cut my losses and picked one up and its way now. I'll still need to widen out the holes on the new body though, don't own a drill myself and my brother is away back up the road. I figured that the easiest way for me to do it myself without the use of a drill is to pick up either a tapered hand reamer or a large tapered file. As long as it goes up to 12mm then I can do all three holes with one tool, I'll just mark off the size of the pot holes on the side so I know where to stop. So what would you recommend - reamer or file? Either can be picked up online relatively cheaply, is one easier to use or more accurate than the other? I've only used a file before, neevr a reamer. Cheers!
16. Problem solved - I stuck a few wee bits of electrical tape on the wall of the cavity where the jack socket sit and the output is back! Also thanks for the offer John but you did the wiring on this so I knew that was never going to be an issue!
17. Got a tortoise shell P Bass scratchplate here that I bought from bassbiscuits a few months ago that's no longer needed. It's in good condition, you can see below the tone pot a hole from where something like an LED was fitted, but with the pattern of the tort you barely notice it. I believe it was fitted to an MIA Precision when bassbiscuits had it, I had it on an MIM so should fit either, I think they have the same screw layout. Looking for £10 posted which is what I paid, or trade for a chrome P Bass bridge cover.
18. Thanks guys, I did think that the jack socket must be touching the tape and grounding the signal, I tried moving the socket but it must still be making contact with it. I'll have another go when I get home this evening.
19. I've just put a new scratchplate on my P Bass but there's no output coming from the jack socket. When I take the scratchplate off with all the wiring in place and plug in my tuner I get a signal, but once the plate's in place again there's nothing. The control cavity and the rear of the scratchplate are shielded with copper tape, but I can't imagine that has anything to do with it (unless it works so well that it eliminates all noise!). With this P Bass I've always found that I have to force the scratchplate down, it doesn't just slot into place, and it arcs up where the pots are until I screw the plate down. Is it possible that the jack socket is touching the side of the cavity and causing it to cut out?
20. Have a word with this fella: http://basschat.co.u...er/7835-kiogon/ He does all sorts of custom wiring looms and can probably help you out.
21.
I think it was this stuff I got
That's the stuff I was looking at. Same price as the wet & dry I had looked at previously, I think I'll go for the micromesh and take it from there.
