I spotted that one on ebay and was very tempted by it. I passed on it though as it seems to have the squared off heel that most Tele Bass necks have and wasn't sure that it would fit in a standard rounded Fender neck pocket. To answer your questions, I just had the string tree moved on my own Tele Bass neck as it was slightly too close to the G. The tech at the shop said she strung up the D & G strings and tried to position it exactly in the middle, marked the position and drilled the hole. Brensabre79 kinda covered it all really. Late '60s-70s style tuners like the Wilkinsons should be fine, I have a set from a Geddy Lee Jazz on my P Bass and they do cover most of the back of the headstock but I like that look. I take a picture when I get home and post it for you to get a feel for what it'll look like.
The necks on these CV tele's do have a pretty thick and sticky gloss finish on them. I gave mine a good rub down with a scotchbrite pad and it plays beatifully now and less drag - although it may be a bit upsetting to do on such a lovely looking neck, I do recommend this mod for a playability point of view.
I found the finish on the neck to be fine, and when I tried it it was 26 degrees outside and my mitts were very sticky and clammy. Even so, I didn't find my hand sticking to the back of the neck as much as I thought I would, it plays like butter. I've recently found a new love for gloss necks though, my P Bass has the glossiest of necks and I really enjoy play it as well.

That was how I reacted when I tried it. Sorry to derail your thread, but here it is.
Ah the addictive qualities of a classic Tele, and at that price hard to resist; enjoy.
My one is second hand apparently, looks brand new to me, not a mark on it and it only cost me £199. Took all of five minutes playing to decide it was coming home with me.

I went to collect my bass from having new tuners fitted today, and left the shop with one of these as well! It's a lovely guitar, very pleased to know there's humbucker routing under the guard as well!

I've found a cab I'd like but it's down in London, and I'm up in Glasgow, so picking up is not an option, but the seller has said if I arrange the courier they'll pack it up for me. Now, I've not couriered a cab in ages, so I can't remember who I've used in the past. Can anyone give me any recommendations? I'd be looking for a 24 hour courier so it can be picked up on Monday and delivered on Tuesday when I'm off, and they must be willing to take a parcel that weighs in at approx 35kg. I don't want to spend loads on the courier but I understand that due to the size and weight my hands may well be tied on that one. Most importantly, I don't want someone who's going to deliver it in more pieces that it was sent in. All suggestions appreciated!

My P Bass has undergone some changes as of late, thanks to the lovely members of Basschat. It now comprises of: Fender MIM P Bass body Warmoth 21 fret Tele Bass neck Geddy Lee Jazz Bass tuners Wizard Thumper Tort scratchplate I wasn't 100% about the Warmoth neck to begin with as I prefer a P-width nut, but the Tele Bass neck is very slim in terms of width, but full and chunky front to back, it's great to play. I may need to do a fill and re-drill on the headstock as the existing tuner screw holes don't quite match up with the Geddy tuners, but it's not an issue just now. My main issue is the scratchplate, the pickup rout and the jack socket don't match with where they should be, and it's causing the plate to warp, hence the tug bar, it's helping to hold it in place. It does mean I can wedge a pick in between the scratchplate and the fretboard overhang, which is handy. In hindsight I should've taken the picture of the bass with the bridge cover on to hide the chips in the finish (the previous custodian of the body obviously wasn't too handy with a drill).

Rotosound RS77LE vs. Steve Harris Sigs
Jono Bolton replied to Jono Bolton's topic in Accessories and Misc
I'm struggling to find any info on them. I couldn't tweet the man himself to find out, so hopefully Rotosound will tweet me back with an answer that's not a load of old cobblers. -
Does anyone know what the different is between the Roto Jazz Bass 77 LEs and the Steve Harris Signature Strings? Apart from a fiver? I've been looking at the specs and they're both the same gauge: 50/75/95/110, but I can't find anything to say why the Harris flats are more expensive. Is it just the name and the West 'Am silks?

Fender Jazz Scratchplate: Tort or Black? Your vote counts!
Jono Bolton replied to Chris Sharman's topic in Bass Guitars
Of your options, Tort. If it were me, white pearl!
I also tried white pearl, it didn't float my boat and the white went back on. -
Fender Jazz Scratchplate: Tort or Black? Your vote counts!
Jono Bolton replied to Chris Sharman's topic in Bass Guitars
I've thought about tort for my Sage Green Metallic Jazz, but I always end up staying with white, although my scratchplate has gone somewhat creamy. I personally hate the colour, I wish I'd never got it, but it was the only one in the shop and I was mightily hungover when I bought it and didn't want to leave empty handed. -
Hmmm - build your own. How about I start with this loaded body: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2c8169afff and then add a P neck to it? Surely somebody here on B/C would have a decent P neck to fit it?
I have a P Bass neck if you want it? Made in Mexico, a bit "road worn" but plays very nicely indeed.
