1. The Fender Mark Hoppus Bass is a Jazz Body with a P Bass neck. P Bass pickup though, and a one-piece scratchplate with a volume pot but no tone. Shouldn't really be that difficult to mod though.
2. I've got a set of 4 machine heads/tuners from a 2000 MIM P Bass, in chrome. Good condition, I took them apart and cleaned and tweaked them about a year ago and they're rock solid, I haven't had any slip in the tuning at all. 2 or 3 of the screws are missing but they still work fine, if I can find any others in my bits box I'll chuck them in but they may not match. I think I've maxed my upload limit so PM me if you'd like pictures. Looking for £15 plus post or pick up from Glasgow. Ta!
3. Just bought Kenny's Warmoth Tele Bass neck off him for my P Bass, allowed me to bring my P Bass body iwth me to make sure it all fit OK as he works just round the corner from me, very friendly, a pleasure to deal with!
4. See when this is fitted to a body, does the 21st fret overhang sit flush against the scratchplate or is there a slight gap?
5. Is it a hiss, or a hum/buzz? I've got an Evo II head that has a pretty loud hum when the output volume is above 9 o clock. Disengaging the valve drive and EQ gets rid of it, engaging one or the other on it's own brings it in a bit and both switched in its very loud. Is it something that a service would fix?
6. I've had a look at it on eBay and I can tell that the tuners are definitely MIM, looks like the guy's just stuck a USA decal on there. Edit: The specs in the description don't match up with the pictures either, it doesn't have a high mass bridge and the fingerboard isn't maple. The specs are for this:
7.
Probably for the best.
I like it
8. FWIW, my MIM PBass is a great instrument. It's light, resonant (even with that thick finish), the neck is great, tuners are rock solid, the only thing I dislike about it is the ugly black plastic sleeve around the truss rod access hole at the headstock end, it looks cheap IMO. I'd prefer heel-end adjustment. I've stuck a threaded saddle bridge on it (personal preference), installed a new wiring harness, tort scratchplate and a pretty knackered Wizard Thumper that sounds amazing, so these mods all help to make it as good as it is, but that said, the two main components (body & neck) are original and very, very good.
9. Utter, utter filth. Love it!
10.
just picked up this today, Its in a sage green metallic , I havnt seen many in this colour so i thought i would share it.
I've got a Jazz in the same colour, don't think they did it for long.
11. I use an ABM 210T that sounds great. I use it with an ABM 300 Evo II head and it's definitely not wooly, and has been used for loads of gigs of various styles and sizes (I loan it out a lot) and everyone always says how good the sound is.
12.
Here is my latest, a 1996 Japanese Precision. Not too much info on it, there is a Fender 50th anniversary sticker on the back - i don't know if it was a limited colour/run. It is strung with 50 - 100 Fender flats and weighs 8lbs 6. I love it! Really, really love it. Going to fit a tort PG and some covers, some new knobs, and it'll be perfect. Thought i'd chuck in a picture of my beloved too - 2012 US Std. My only two basses now - don't think i'll ever want/need anything else... Just a fretless P... And an Oly White with tort guard...
That pink one is awesome!
13. Bought a sh*t load of Dunlop picks from Iain, paid on Friday and they arrived today, all for a bargain price. Good dude, recommended to all!
14.
^ That's minted!!!
Aye, that's a diamond!
15.
I was looking on Gumtree late one Friday for a project and spotted the advert for the Aria and two awful six string guitars and Encore and a Jim Deacon strat - the seller actually dropped the guitars round the next day too. I cobbled one decent six string together and gave it to my nephew and then set about work on the Aria. It was in a shocking state. The pots had sheared off (no knobs), the pickup was dead, the neck had a horrible front bow (the truss rod was completely slack). On the plus side, it had a set of Schaller machines on it, but they were installed at offset angles (a la Warwick). I rewired it, installed a new (Wilkinson) pickup, reset the machines, straplocks. It sounds/plays lovely - tonally it just gives me an option over my Thunderbirds, plus I've had a tendency to use it at gigs where I don't know the venue...I guess I'd rather that the Aria got nicked over one of my Gibsons. P
I've seen your Aria in another thread, it's bloody lovely! If you ever fancy moving it on you've got a certain buyer right here!
16. Cheers guys, from what I've read the VM has the Jazzmaster sound, but the Mascis has the better build quality, like the Matt Freeman P Bass, it's similar to the CV range. I'll probably go for the Mascis, and swap out the pickups and the scratchplate, I'll just deal with the fact that it's white.
17. Hi all, I was watching some old Elvis Costello videos at the weekend, and now I'm hankering for a Jazzmaster. Has anyone had a chance to compare the Squier JM and VM models? From what I understand, the JM is more like a CV in terms of it's build quality, but doesn't have the classic Jazzmaster sound. Plus the JM only comes in vintage white, and I'd really rather have sunburst or sonic blue. I've had a look online for comparisons on other forums, but apparently our transatlantic pals can't have a discussion without it all descending into "you don't have a f***ing clue what you're talking about." Hopefully us Brits can be a bit more diplomatic. Cheers!
18. Any idea what wood it is? And if it's solid wood or ply?
19. That's really nice, I love the subtle wear and tear on it, and the fag burn on the headstock too!
20. First off, apologies if this is in the wrong section. I've got a standard MIM Precision and the thing I hate most about it is the headstock-end truss rod access hole with the black plastic sleeve. What I'd really like to do is have the sleeve taken out, and the TR nut replaced with a bullet-style nut that sticks out beyond the end of the fingerboard. This would give me the aesthetics I want, and also better access to the nut for adjusting the neck if needs be. I've done some research and Fender sell replacement nuts with a 10-32 thread, as found on the MIM truss rod. The kicker is, after speaking to Fender, they've said that even though it's the right thread, the nut isn't compatible with bass's TR, although they couldn't explain to me why. I've seen guitars and basses that have had these nuts fitted, there's a Squier VM for sale on here that has had one added, so can anyone tell me if: i- the nut actually will fit, despite what Fender say, or, ii- if there are any alternative makers that do one that would fit, or, iii- if someone is able to manufacture a one off or modify an existing one that will fit? A lot of text for a pretty straight forward question, sorry, but can anyone help me out? Cheers!
21.
Lovely! Black -n- Red Tort just works!
Thanks! It's not actually red, it does look very red because of the light. In real life it's somewhere between red and brown, I was really happy when I got it from the Bass Doc as it's exactly what I wanted.
