1. Looks good to me, exactly the same routing as my Jazz. Stamps all look correct too. Also, I doubt many people would attempt to fake a Mexican Fender.
2. LPB looks too bright to me, from the OP's pictures it's more of a grey/blue which makes me think it's Ice Metallic. To be honest it's one of those things where we'll probably never be able to decide, the only way to tell is by seeing what's written on the tags!
3. Changed my mind, it's Ice Blue Metallic http://www.google.co...c&sa=1&tbm=isch I think LPB's fairly new finish option that they brought out when they updated the Mexican Standard models, as far as I know it wasn't an option in the nineties.
4. In the 90s Mexican Precisions came with Strat knobs, my P is from 2000 and had them too. I think that colour's Daphne Blue, but it's hard to tell from the pics. It's definitely not Sonic Blue, it's too dark and looks ever so slightly metallic, Sonic Blue's super pale. Very nice for a freebie!
5. I don't know if this is the right section or if Recycling would be more appropriate, but I reckon more people will view this if I stick it here! Mods, if it's not right, please move it! I've got a brown tortoise shell Jazz Bass scratchplate, genuine Fender, that I recently received from another member. It's got a notch out of the neck for truss rod adjustment so it's not really suitable for my MIM Jazz as it adjusts at the headstock end. I got it for free, so I'm not looking for any cash for it, first to PM me will get it, although I might not be able to post it until next week due to work. EDIT: Now gone
6.
First, I must respectfully disagree with a post above: for every Rick that sounds great, there are fifty more that sound even better. .
You are John Hall and ICMFP
7. Crikey, having seen that JC had replied I was expecting nothing more than "you're right, this isn't good enough, I'm arranging for the bass to be sent back and a full refund will be issued". Trying to imply that the OP spunked 5 grand on a bass and then proceeded to go out of his way to make it look like a dog's dinner in unbelievable, really poor show. And as Warwickhunt said, nothing to address the damage to the headstock or the routing/contouring. Still, at least the guy's getting his money back, which is the least he deserves.
8.
Logic would dictate that he closed when he sold the final one on the shelf. I think he actually made them to order. So he would have closed when he used up the last bobbin and foot of copper wire. A
If it was a made to order job then that makes sense, I've only ever bought Wizard pickups second hand so I've never bought directly from the site so I wasn't sure what the set up is. Once again, it's a shame that he's no longer trading, really good pickups at a great price.
9. It's a great shame, I've liked all the sets of pickups I've had from Wizard, I've still got a Thumper in my P Bass just now. That said, when I saw the thread title I was worried that it was another story of a small UK company going out of business, glad to see that's not the case. Out of interest, what happens to all the leftover stock? Surely there must be boxes of ready made pickups that we could still buy until he runs out, or was it a case of the pickups were made when you placed an order?
10. That's unbelievably cool!
11. My main issue with refinishing the bass myself is that I live in a flat and don't have access to a suitable place to do it. Also I don't have the patience or technical ability to achieve a decent finish I fear, I'd just make a pig's ear of it. If I do go for a refin I'll definitely get someone else to do it.
12.
I don't get what's not to love about these headstocks, they're like the traditional Fender ones but more swoopy and awesome.
Yep, I think it's awesome! I think I'd want one less if it had the standard Fender shape. Sorry xilddx, I like the Ibanez one as well!
13. The headstock looks a bit Ibanezy to me
14.
Refin. It seems to me the colour is the only reason you`re not playing it, so get it how you want it, and treasure a great gift.
Good advice Lozz, if money were no object then that's exactly what I'd do!
sage green isn't a bad colour.... some people may prefer it to black - why not ask for a swap?
I did post an ad on here a few weeks back but no one took me up on the offer
15.
MB1. If you're happy with the way it plays and sounds Can you not come to terms with its sageyness? I've heard of bands being Ageist but not Sageist?
I've had it 8 years now, so I reckon if I don't like it now, I probably never will. It's spent a lot of it's life as a backup to my other basses, partly because some played or sounded better, and partly because they looked better.
16.
it will have a poly finish, it will be a b*tch to refinish, buy a new body. My favourite guitar has no original parts left, but it's the same strat i've had since 1989.
Trigger's broom? I know that getting a new body would be the most cost-effective route, but then I can't say it's the same bass, and I fear it may make me look like an ungrateful git if I replace the body and sell of the old one. It's very much a head (and wallet) vs. heart issue.
17. A Starcaster Bass in Black with a maple neck? This is where I'd attach a "Shut up and take my money" meme if I could work out how.
18. I have a Mexican Jazz Bass that I hardly ever play. Part of the reason is due to the fact that I don't much like the colour, it's Sage Green Metallic and I bought it when I had a hangover and it was the only one in stock and I couldn't be bothered waiting the 2 or 3 days it would have taken the shop to order in one in a colour I wanted (I bought it in Glasgow and was staying down in Ayr at the time, which was an hours train journey away). In short, I was stupid and impatient. The bass was my 18th birthday present from my parents and for sentimental reasons I don't really want to sell it, although I feel bad that I'm not using it. So, I'm thinking that I could either buy a new body in black, or have it refinished. Obviously if I swap the body it's no longer the same bass, but a refinish might be costlier than buying a new body. Or, should I just sell the bass and buy something that I'll actually use? Opinions please!
19. I don't have any parts you need, but I'd like to be the first to say "pics of this beast please!"
20. Hi all, As the title says, really. Does anyone know of somewhere to get a decent set up that's not going to charge an arm and a leg? I'm struggling to get a good action on my Jazz and so it's not really getting used, and I feel that there's something untoward going in with the truss rod nut, so that needs looked at. I've tried a few places such as Strung Out and Guitar Guitar and neither of them were that good, and in one instance I think I paid them just to lower the strings and nothing else. Alternatively are there any BC'ers who fancy a crack at it?
21. Does anybody else absolutely love these? I have one on my P Bass and I find it much easier to use than the standard BBOT bridge that the bass originally came with. String spacing is much more accurate, and for some reason I find that the action and intonation is much better than the standard bridge. There doesn't appear to be much difference although the base plate on the standard bridge seems to be a tad thicker, but would it make much difference? It's probably just under 1mm thicker. Also, was there a reason that Fender stopped using the threaded saddles? Aesthetics, cost, or something else?
22. With the cola soak, do you just rinse it off with water afterwards? I've got a Marlin Strat copy I'm supposed to be cleaning up for a mate, most of the hardware could do with cleaning up.
23.
Bet you didn't expect to see me in here Fender Cabronita Precision. Because I can't do anything properly
Very nice, I really like the look of these basses! (Althought I'd swap out that ugly high-mass bridge)
