1. Saturday was another wedding - lovely venue, lovely couple, fish and chips, ice-cream van and free bar when we arrived. We played well, to a good response and had a small number of committed dancers from the start and through most of the gig, however most people were sat outside the marquee - given the heat and humidity, I don't blame them, I'd probably do the same. I'm over summer now, please come back winter, all is forgiven; gigs in this humidity are just exhausting.
2. Had a fun session, not learning songs for the covers band last night, worked out Bulls On Parade and I'm Housin' by Rage Against The Machine and revisted a couple I used to know but not played in ages - Stevie Wonder's Sir Duke and Beyonce's De Ja Vu
3. These have all really stuck with me over the years Opeth - Still Life Clutch - Blast Tyrant Mastodon - Leviathan Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American Barenaked Ladies - Stunt Rancid - ...And Out Come The Wolves Down - NOLA Faith No More - Angel Dust Black Sabbath - Paranoid Wolves In The Throne Room - Two Hunters Deftones - White Pony Electric Wizard - Dopethrone Anaal Nathrakh - Eschaton I should probably stop or I'll just keep going
4.
Whats with the 'Non-Smokers' in ads these days? I'm not a smoker myself, but I dont see what that has to do with music...
I was wondering if the "no smoking of any kind" was a drugs reference
5.
There are very happy Streamliner owners and they describe the sound deep, valvey, vintage etc. like you but I also read some comments here and there which stated that it can sound muddy. Do you agree with that?
Yes, it certainly can be muddy, I use mine with a 1st generation Barefaced Compact and generally have the bass at around 9-10 o'clock, can get muddy if you leave things "flat" as Musicman20 says.
6. Will Smith's wife Jada Pinkett-Smith sang in a metal band called Wicked Wisdom, remember seeing them at Download a few years back, I assume they've split now
7. Please forgive the awful spelling in that post, my phone threw a fit and refused to let me proof-read before posting :embarrassed:
8. I've got a Streamliner 900, not played the other two. It's natural sound is a deep, thick, valvey tone that's naturally scooped, but if like me you prefer something clearer with prominent mids which that sounds deep and authoritive then it can do that too. Pros: light, powerfull, great "vintage" tone with an EQ that is far more powerful than you might think from the control layout. Cons: overall the build quality is very good, but a number of them, including mine had a k own issue whete the LED module often doesn't come on straight away - doesn't affect the sound. I'd also like more control of the mids - if it had a two band mid control which was a proper semi-parametric rather than the 3-position switch for the centre frequency then I'd be a very happy bunny. I've heard good things about Carvin, and I've never played an Eden, but I'd love to, particularly as the WT550 has a proper analogue power stage
9. I bought a V-amp on here recently for home practice and I'm really pleased with it. It's not the best unit in the world, but I've found an amp sim I really like (the Gallien-Kruger profile) and it's got a headphone jack, aux-in and tuner - everything I need for practice in one unit
10. I was about to say Hysteria, I then remembered it's not a crowd pleaset Crazy Little Thing Called Love is more interesting and fun to play than most and normally goes down really well.
11. I love Stunt, it's one of my favourite albums, Call And Answer is probably my favourite song on there. Downloaded Shoebox too, but other than those don't know any of their other stuff, really should check some out.
12. We typically do an hour first set, half hour(ish) break, play for another hour and quarter(ish); though at weddings and functions this is obviously dictated by the client's needs. Longest we tend to do is three hours, split into three sets NYE, would I do four hours? Sure, but it wouldn't be cheap - we give quite a physical performance so four hours would be a lot of effort, plus I'd be good for nothing the next day as me being out late doesn't make the children stay in bed any later the next morning! Also, we tend to find that if the client is given the choice of the band carrying on longer for more money, or a DJ (the singer with Spotify on his phone) for a lower amount of money they'll take the DJ.

14. Friday was a small, but very nice wedding on a farm in the Sussex countryside. Lovely people who were up for the band and had made the venue look great; thumbs up to the caterers too who sorted us out with drinks as soon as we arrived and the lass who deposited a plate of food and cake at my feet during the second set We played well, including two new songs that the bride and groom requested; one of which was the first dance and the other was The Ataris cover of The Boys Of Summer - that one's definitely a keeper, not a particuly interesting bass part, but a really fun song. On the down side, even though we finished relatively early (about 10:45), we were all exhausted, I think the high humidity on Friday really took it out of us. Also, as a bonus the bridal party had requested we not play Sex On Fire (possibly Christian concerns, not sure) so it was nice not to have to knock that one out.
15. I'd love to get that Bluebeard, it's what Troy Sanders used on Mastodon's Leviathan record, unfortunately no cash either, GLWTS
16. My five year old wants the bass I think it looks great, would certainly suit a punk or 80s new wave style band, don't think I'd take it on a country or reggae gig.
17. The pickup is apparently in the sweet-spot, from the Facebook post: Inside Leo's Lab: 1976 prototype Leo Fender Music Man Stingray bass from the CLF Research days. This prototype shows the Stingray concept nearing completion. Note the split coil pickup with large Alnico pole pieces, located about where the final Stingray humbucker pickup would be. This is a fascinating prototype, the missing link between where Leo left the P-bass and where he started the Stingray.
18. This just popped up on the G&L Facebook page, one of Leo's prototype Stingrays that shows his transition from the Precision to the 'Ray. [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_198741072842146_zpsehz2to9t.jpeg" class="ipsImage" />
19. Our guitarist and singer had an acoustic set yesterday afternoon/evening in a pub garden, so I took the wife and kids along with my bass and joined them for about half the set. Was a lot of fun, changing up the feel of the songs to make them work acoustically. Unfortunately, it as just a little too late in the day for the kids who were tired and emotional as a result.
20. That is remarkably shiny for a 39 year old instrument GLWTS
21. Could always do The Pretender, Walk or Arlandria by the Foos, it was Lonely Boy I was thinking of by The Black Keys. We've started doing Mountains by Biffy and they've got a few more good ones. There's always Muse: Uprising, Knights Of Cydonia etc
22. Foo Fighters? Black Keys?
23.
ha ha !! Not for this forum I don't think!!
24.
The Bass Gallery. Still showing my old SEI P/J as for sale on their website, right now. It was sold last week, after I had emailed them about it. Gutted. Mind they did eventually respond (phone message left) 4 days after my initial email . Reidy's of Blackburn. Still had the Bongo up for sale on FEEBay last night. They sold it to a cash customer last week
You think that's bad? I bought this bass from them last September and it's still on their website http://www.thebassga...=2545&type=Bass There's also a L1550 on there that I think someone on here bought before I bought the SB2!
25.
Her (rather attractive) daughter then thanked me for helping etc and asked for my number so let me know how her mum was the next day. No problem there I thought. Get home to a few txt messages off her saying cheers etc, she asks if I'm single and fancy a drink sometime, I politely decline and explain I'm married etc She then tells me to check out her twitter page and to follow her - I do and it turns out she is a FULL ON PORN ACTRESS!!! I kid ye not.......... and yes, she's in videos on websites, the works..........
*cough*name?*cough*
