I've been thinking about a change of amp on and off for a bit, and then this beauty came up in the sales forum. I used to play a Fafner but downsized when we moved to our previous house, I did miss the EBS sound and where we are now has a bit more space so I've been able to go back to a rack system rather than a micro head. [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/20141223_213016_zpsr5nqtxnq.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> Got a gig tomorrow night so looking forward to trying it out in anger, first impressions: very clear, tight "hi-fi" sound, what you'd expect from an EBS reall. Forces you to be a better player - there's no hiding poor technique or wrong notes with an amp like this.

It's not the amp input overdriving is it? Those MFD pickups are very hot, so you'll want less gain than on other basses. If not that I'd certainly check the battery first.

I forget who recorded the bass for Christmas Wrapping, but I do remember she was a student of Marcus Miller, which I think you can really hear in her playing.

Now sold, thanks for all the interest Looking to sell or trade my Compact for an EBS cab - ideally a Proline 4x10 or 2x12 So, the Compact - a small, light cab that sounds pretty transparent, but with a slight bias to the bottom end for rich, vintage tone. The cab has great dispersion, I remember jamming with our drummer earlier this year during the break and the singer, who was in another part of the bar, remarking how clearly he could hear me. The cab has served me well the last couple of years in my covers/function band, but I'm moving back to an EBS head and would like to match it with one of their cabs. Couple of things in the interests of full disclosure, I've taken a close-up of the handles as the rubber isn't sitting correctly in it's housing anymore, however the actual metal of the handle itself is still fine and works perfectly. In the picture of the input socket you'll notice a screw hole, there's another the other side. That's because the previous owner hadn't fitted the corner pieces and when I started doing it, like an idiot, screwed it into the wrong place. These are small and not visible from the front of the cab. I'm in East Grinstead, West Sussex (RH19) and given the weigts involved - I had a Proline 4x10 before this and remember it weighing the same as a small moon - meeting up for a trade would probably be best, happy to travel some distance myself. If you've any questions or want any more photos just let me know, cheers, Graham. Pics to follow shortly as Photobucket is being rubbish and I don't want to re-type all this :-p
Had a little fantasy about buying the amp and the 1212L also for sale on here for a mega-GB and Schroeder rig, but... just one Streamliner and one Schroeder cab seem to be more than adequate in any situation!
Sounds like a fine idea, Christmas is coming after all I do think two Streamliners, one run clean, the other overdriven would sound immense

Lol, repairing the LEDs was prompted by the idea of moving it on rather than moving it on because I can't repair the lights

GAS is a terrible thing.... I'm looking to trade this bad boy for an EBS HD350 The Streamliner 900 is a great amp that does the old school valve sound really well, but can be clear and hi-fi sounding too. It's got three valves in it and some great features like a headphone jack and aux-in which are great for home practice. Between the gain (pre-amp) and volume (post EQ, but pre power amp) controls and valve EQ you've got a lot more tonal control than the simple layout might lead you to think. It's served me well in my covers/function band the last couple of years, however, I do miss the EBS sound, so it's up for grabs if you've got an HD350 you'd part with. It comes with a Genz-Benz Streamliner case and PAT test certificates (tested 04/07/14) It does have the known issue with the LEDs that backlight the valves on these amps, that they only work intermittently; what typically happens is the light doesn't come on initially, but springs into life half way through a gig. I never bothered looking into getting it fixed as it's purely cosmetic and doesn't affect the tone or functionality at all. After going over the amp there's also a small ding on the rear left panel - not visible from the front, I've included (slightly out of focus) photo of that. Here's Ed Friedland's great demo of the amp

Interestingly, I've taken the top off the chassis and when powered the three LEDs light, bit are very dim

Hello all, I imagine this has been covered a few times before, but I tried searching for it and failed. How easy is it to replace the LED module in a Streamliner if it, like mine, suffers from known intermittent fault? Can I, an electronics layman do it myself? Or will it require more specialist skills? Anyone know how expensive the replacement units are? Apologies for my rubbish search skills, and thanks for any help.

No, it has the known intermittent fault on the LED module. All the indicator lights work fine, but the blue backlight behind the valves works sometimes and sometimes doesn't (usually doesn't work to start with and then springs into life at some point during the gig). I believe it's not a hard fix, but as it doesn't affect the sound or functionality it never bothered me, so I never looked into it

If an amp lacks phones socket, what options do you have?
Graham replied to Samfordia's topic in Amps and Cabs
DI out the head into a mixer - assuming it has a DI out and isn't all valve. You can then blend in a CD player/ipod/phone to play along with. -

Are they not particularly sensitive, or do you play in a loud band with no PA support?
-
Anyone got experience of the 1x12s? I was having a ponder about swapping my Compact for a pair of those.

If I could get a Big Baby 2 with tolex and silver cloth then..............I still wouldn't be able to afford it, but I would be quietly lusting after it.
