Power? Have you got enough for everything from a decent source?
-
Friday was a wedding, probably last of the year, the vocals were mired with trechnical issues (traced to a poorly made lead) during the first set. Other than that though pretty good, I got a great tone too which made me happy. Last night was a pub, one of those venues where it's not very clear why they have live music - a few people where into the band, but most were more interested in the football. It really felt like hard work last night - probably a combination of the disinterested audience and the three hours sleep I'd had the night before, why wont children learn that if daddy has a gig he doesn't want to be woken up at five am the next day? Tone wasn't so good either, curse of the hollow stage, I really must get a Gramma Pad soon. I also did more vocals this week, and the singer was pretty happy with what I was singing, so looking forward to doing more.
Ah, The Cinque Ports social club in Uckfield, been there and done that. Don't want to do it again. Had to play quieter than a quiet thing in a quiet place.
They didn't ask us to turn down the instruments (and we had the kit and bass through the PA). They did ask us to turm down the Ipod during the break and move some bits away from the fire exit. I get the impression they always like to have a moan about something.

We were at the Cinque Ports social club in Uckfield last night, standard social club gig really: quiet first set, busy second set. Went down very well, however at the end of the night the former treasurer who had booked us previously came over and said they were stopping having bands there. They do have a mad door policy there too, four people came to see us, but were turned away for not being members, when telling us this the manager also said we could sign in two people each, so god knows why they were turned away. Why on Earth would you not let in people who want to spend money in youe establishment? I really think the Social Club business model doesn't work very well these days.

The temptation to buy one of those precisions and put in a £30 Entwistle ceramic pickup is remarkable; it would make a more suitable bass for tuning to Eb for Sweet Child Of Mine and Basket Case than my L2000. However, I'm pretty sure the wife has all the money earmarked for other things at the moment
-
Blimey, the Precisions are even cheaper - entry level P-bass for £60! http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbp120bk_ebass.htm How much do Thoman charge for shipping?
-
For £100 I'd be tempted to take a punt on the 70s model, you'd probably get two thirds of that back if you wanted to move it on, so are probably only looking at about £40 risk. If my girls were older I'd happily get them one as their first bass.

I saw the photo before the who the OP was immediately assumed it was Big Red X

Gorgeous, the sunburst looks so much nicer than the natural finish JB-2s, lool forward to hearing how it fared at rehearsal
-
Though, that said, in your position I'd just ask Alpher's advice and buy what they said - luthiers are the experts in their field.
-
Maybe a maple body, wenge neck and fretboard with a single ceramic humbucker in the MM position with a passive tone. I reckon that would growl like a beast.

For a different take on it, I don't like the solo bass bit in C-Lo Green's Forget You, before the unison part with the keys. Sticks out like a sore thumb and doesn't suit the song IMO - it's like they forgot to write a part for that section and then just jammed something in at the last minute.

Friday was a pub in town, brilliant gig - great payday weekend crowd, we played really well and had a superb drummer - it was the first time he'd played with us, infact first time we'd met him, but he killed it, he should hopefully be doing a lot more with us. Buzzing after that one, we were supposed to finish at midnight but kept going until 20 past as we here having such a good time we didn't want to stop. The wife came out too as we had a babysitter, which was great, though she did drink half my earnings Saturday was a garden party at a massive house just outside Horsham: swimming pool, tennis court, kid's adventure playground in the grounds, snooker hall and an Audi Q7 on the driveway - the works; the client was an MD of a marketing company and had clearly done very well for himself. Not a huge number of people to start with, but pretty busy for the last 45 mins or so, we played well and the audience was having a great time by the end, got some good feedback and hope to pick up some more rich clients off the back of it I made a couple of daft mistakes I doubt anyone but me picked up on, will have to work on those at home. Couple of pics from last night [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/Mobile%20Uploads/20140802_185431_zpsyptuhseq.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> We're set-up infront of the swimming pool there.
You are a weird lot , you're on stage, playing music that people like or you wouldn't be playing them, and yet you're moaning. I hate pretty much 99% of what I have to play at an average function gig, it bares little resemblance to what I listen to at home or on the train, but I get off on the fact that I'm doing something I love, and the audience are enjoying themselves.
I'm completely with you 99% of the time, however one or two songs are remarkably tedious and Keep Rocking In The Free World is one of them
-
Keep On Rocking In The Free World Duh duh, duh duh, duh duh, duh duh, DUH DUH ad nauseum I'm so glad we don't play that anymore
-
I don't know where in Kent you are, but if you're near the Sussex border I have a USA SB-2 your welcome to try? I can't speak for the necks on the Tribute models, as I've only played American versions of the SB-2 but if you want to get a feel for the electronics it may be of help.

I really like Miranda Sykes who playes live bass (mostly upright) for Show Of Hands, she's got a great voice too - her solo album is pretty decent, all covers though I think. She doesn't do much fancy stuff in SOH, as it's folk there's not loads of room for that, but her feel and note choice are superb.

I went with the majority opinion and got Tribes, Vibes And Scribes. Picked up Return Of The Space Cowboy too and paid the princely some of £3.98 for both delivered

Payday tomorrow, and I'd like to pickup an album by Incognito, I don't know an awful lot about the band, so thought I'd ask the collective wisdom of Basschat. I don't want to spend much money at the moment and the below can be had for a pittance on Amazon, so is there one that is particularly better than the others? I have Adventures In Black Sunshine by them and prefer the upbeat funky tracks to the more mellow ones if that helps Poitivity 100⁰ And Rising Tribes Vibes And Scribes Cheers

The one that got away and the one best shut of...
Graham replied to interpol52's topic in General Discussion
The one I don't miss at all is my de-fretted Avon jazz copy - crappy electronics and a twist in the neck, donated it to my local jam night. Of the ones I've moved on, I miss my Lakland Duck Dunn a bit, but tbh it wasn't the right bass for me; same as my MIM Jazz, sold that one to the blole who runs the aforementioned jam night, so still get to play that from time to time. I wouldn't mind having my Ibanez K5 back, part exed it against an EBS cab. With a pickup and pre-amp upgrade it would be a really good bass. However if I could have one back it would be my Mayones custom be4 Exotic - lovely modern, hi-fi sounding bass which I recorded my old band's album with. However, moving it on was the right decision and if I had it back it would be for sentimental reasons and probably wouldn't get a lot of use. -
Had something like that on Saturday, was a bit odd: hadn't drop-tuned it all nigt, checked my tuning during the break, first song back in I look panicked at the guitarist that he's changed the key and have to transpose up two frets. Move to the A string and realise that it's in-tune in the normal position - tuner on, somehow I'm in drop D :s I can only assume I had a mental blank when tuning during the break and put it in D rather than E, despite have no recollection of doing so, and it making no rational sense.
