1. They're quite active on Facebook, might be worth mentioning it there.
2.
I learnt to play guitar by listening to and copying Animals - great album.
I thought Animals was Gilmore on bass? Brilliant playing on Pigs from that album whoever it was
3. In my local Aldi now and they have these, happy to pick one up and mail it out if you live miles from an Aldi
4. It's got to be Sweet Child O Mine, maybe Alright Now.
5. Any excuse [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/20140313_220513_zpsh7ejf8mh.jpg" class="ipsImage" />
6.
I can just see that in the backline at a Cannibal Corpse gig...
I helped set up their amps and drumkit at this year's Damnation Festival - Webster had 2x DB750s into DB8x10s, though they only used one of them. Sounded superb when he played a couple of notes between songs, unfortunately he was completely inaudible when the whole band were playing.
7. A 5 may well be the best route for you, however as an alternative, I've recently re-learned the songs we do where the original was in Eb (sweet Child O'mine and Basket Case) in Drop-D. After Christmas I'll be looking for a Hipshot X-tender to make the change between tunings snappy and then I'll only need one bass for the whole set - I currently swap to another tuned down a semi-tone for those two songs. That all said, I do wish I had a 5 string for Runaway Baby, as we do it in C, so I can't do the octave shift in the verse
8. Saw Cannibal Corpse recently, got one of the best bassists in extreme metal and he was literally inaudible. Top flight gear - Spector bass, Radial Tonebone and Darkglass B7K on his pedal board, into an Aguilar DB750 and DB 8x10, when he played a couple of notes between songs it sounded great, however I was watching his hands, stood next to the sound desk and couldn't hear a single note. They had their tour manager on the sound desk, so no real argument about not knowing their sound.
9. Stick him through the PA? He can have his amp as quiet as he wants and you can control the FOH mix.
10. I doubt I'd be able to persuade the band to do any of these as odds are we'd need more instrumentation (keys, sax et) and a female vocal for the duets. Would love to give one or two a shot though
11. The singer in my main band is going travelling for 6 months from January, so will have a lot more availability for any dep work
12. Holy moly, that's not an easy one I've added it to the list though
13. I'm sure it's been remarked on before, but how much fun are the songs from Grease? I've started learning a couple (Summer Nights and You're The One I Want), as they're just so enjoyable to play. I've never seen the film, so are there other songs in it with great basslines?
14. I saw SikTh last week and their bassist used one of these for a few of the songs from the second album. Crappy picture below [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/20141111_215753_zpss7q6c4ws.jpg" class="ipsImage" />
15. I may have over-priced this - happy to entertain offers
16. TTT Just the scratchplate left now, £15.00 delivered
17.
I wonder if you left it a few years under the bed then when you returned to it would it "play like butter"?
Nah, it'd sound cheesy
18.
Ryan Martinie. His sound blows me away everytime I hear it. I know he uses a thumb 5 stringer but that's where my knowledge ends.
I think it's just the Warwick into an Avalon U5A these days, but he's previously used Ampeg SVT 4-pros. For me it's got to be Justin Chancellor on Tool's 10000 Days, particularly the clean sound on Jambi. The overdriven sound on that album is great too.
19.
It makes these endorsee whores look like idiots if you ask me, flea did a massive campaign for the Acoustic amps, it was in every magazine going but by the time they went on tour a few months later he was back with GK even though the adverts were still being printed, I'd have stayed with the lakland and I bet he would have too but who is on the board at fender, bonio and his bald hat wearing mate so it's no surprise is it?
Reminds me of an old issue of Bass Player where they did a feature on Testament's bass player and obviously went over the kit he was using, his bass was a Fender jazz of some variety, a Geddy Lee I think. Two pages later there's a full page add of him and Dave Ellefson advertising Peavey basses
20. Are these companies you're referring to one man band type operations, or small businesses with a handful of employees? Working in purchasing for a manufacturing company, I recognise what your saying, we've a one man company I want to ditch at the moment as it's essentially one bloke and he's not reliable enough for our production schedules. Small business with a handful of employees on the other hand I find to work very hard and cause us very few problems, by their very nature - if they didn't provide excellent service, they wouldn't be around long as they couldn't absorb the loss of business. Edit: Tim does raise some fair points, depending on the circumstances
