When I saw Yob on the Clearing The Path.... tour, the bassist was using a Rick - best live bass tone I've heard, sat in the mix perfectly; also Pat Bruders was playing one last time I saw Down and it sounded great. Conversely, since the bassist in Clutch started using one, I've found their live sound has deterioted - sounds like he's got the neck pickup soloed, giving it too much bottom end.

It is a lot of money to buy one, but Andertons must be confident of selling them, as that's a lot of working capital to sink into a shipment of one type of instrument.

Knew I'd seen that charcoal sparkle finish before 😁
-
Lakland USA is an option too

Moulded hearing protection, whilst not as exciting as other equipment, wil be the best purchase you make. Buy it sooner. Do more work on theory, it really helps.

Don't worry, first children are normally late 😁

Tool - The Holy Gift (Lateralus alternate tracklist)
Graham replied to Graham's topic in General Discussion
If you've got a Tool shaped hole in your life, Soen are probably the closest thing to it, they have former Opeth drummer Martin Lopez and the first album has Steve DiGiorgio on bass -
I've been at a few which were filmed: Machine Head at Brixton Academy Muse at Wembley Satdium Opeth at The Roundhouse Opeth at The Royal Albert Hall Obviously, you'd have no idea I was there, but they're nice souverniers.

I think you're probably right about that -
Tool - The Holy Gift (Lateralus alternate tracklist)

If I was going for specific songs, I'd probably put the CD on, but if I'm in a position to listen to the whole record I'll probably use this version as I do think it flows better. -
A mate sent me this yesterday, it's allegedly the original running order for Lateralus, but the band (for some reason) changed it before the album was released. God knows why they did that, this tracklisting makes so much more sense. I always thought Lateralus was a brilliant album, but it fell off a cliff after the title track, with this running order the whole album feels different and the intermission-like tracks fit really well into the flow of the record. I wish they were on Spotify so I could put this into a playlist 6. Parabol 0:00 7. Parabola 3:04 5. Schism 9:01 8. Ticks & Leeches 15:44 4. Mantra* 23:48 9. Lateralus* 23:48 13. Faaip de Oiad 33:07 1. The Grudge 35:44 12. Triad 44:15 2. Eon Blue Apocalypse* 50:56 11. Reflection* 50:46 3. The Patient 61:02 10. Disposition 67:23

What do you value about your local music shop?
Graham replied to MiltyG565's topic in General Discussion
It strikes me that most small shops would do well to offer very good set-up and repair services, sell consumables - strings, sticks, drum heads, picks, leads etc at a decent price and only sell instruments as commission sales. Takes away the capital expenditure needed on high value, low margin, low turn goods, keeps people, like a lot of us, who just use the shops for strings and set-ups happy and takes advantage of the buoyant used market. It would also have the advantage of having a variety of different instruments coming through the door at any given time, which might encourage people through the door more regularly. -
To anyone with GAS, one of these just appeared on Facebook https://m.facebook.com/groups/184621401586617?view=permalink&id=1794175870631154

I think the pickup is in the Ray position, the L1000 has a humbucker in the P position and the Kiloton and L1500 have it in the Stingray. Given the pickup type, placement and series/parallel switching.I'd imagine the Kiloton could get you within spitting distance of a Stingray sound, particularly in a mix.

My Lakland DJ5 is an incredible bass, but, I could potentially be tempted by a Spector Euro 5. I've never actually played a Spector, but I really like the tone and aethetics of them.

What do you value about your local music shop?
Graham replied to MiltyG565's topic in General Discussion
My local shop is now Bonners in Eastbourne, they seem nice enough and quite professional in there, put me in mind of a smaller Andertons. I bought some pedalboard cables there a few weeks ago and the young lad behind the counter was very accomodating, so would happily shop there again, but they don't stock anything I'm interested in - entry level to mid-range basses and Rotosound and Ernie Ball strings. I still go back to the shop in my hometown - Bullfrog Music in East Grinstead - as Danny there does great set-ups for me, and whilst he has to order in D'addarios, they normally come pretty quickly. Like Bonners though, I doubt I'd buy a bass or amp from there unless it was a commission sale, as they have a similiar, but smaller selection. -
In Burgess Hill last night, very sweaty, a few people about but mostly they (understandably) stayed outside. A lot of fun though, we had a really good dep drummer that made things very enjoyable.
-
Ooohhh, I liked the sound of that
-
When I had a GK MB500 I used the boost as a dirt channel, worked well and was a great head.
-
Gallien Krueger are certainly renowned for having an aggressive, present mid-range. I suspect that it's partly down to having a four band EQ so you can cut the lower mids, whilst pushing the upper.
-
I think it'll be so that the lowest string will have the longest distance between bridge and tuning peg, whilst not increasing tension (as that is measure between the bridge and nut) it increases (or decreases?) compliance, which is like tension. Or so I've read in the past.

There's an MTD too http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/MTD_Super_4_Black_Rosewood.html But I can't think of any others
