  1. I'm in a similar position, I have an HD350 and Neo 2x12, which for the vast amount of the time sit in the dining room, as I just DI with a Microbass II However, I used the amp last wekend, and it is better than the PA wedges, just not so much better that it justifies the additional weight and footprint on moat gigs. That, coupled with most of the bands I dep for don't have PA/monitoring suitable for only going direct, mean it's going nowhere; just wish there wasn't an intermittent problem with the power stage.
  2. Really good last night, it was a 50th birthday party in a marquee in the garden of a big, expensive house in Sussex. The party guests loved us, to the point where they put a tip bucket round at the end of the night when we agreed to play on until half 12. After that I actually had a woman come up and offered me anotjer £200 to play for another hour, which I had to decline as our drummer was well past flagging by that point. We only took about a ten minute break when the power dropped out and had to run another cable down from the house, so we played for over three hours, more or less non-stop. The dancefloor was scaffolding boards suspended over the swimming pool, the floor was moving up and down like a bouncy castle a few times - no exageration, wish I'd filmed it - and I did wonder from some of the songs the singer called out if he was trying tip the punters into the pool; Chelsea Dagger particularly saw the floor moving.
  3. Cheers Nick, circumstances force the sale now, but I'm absolutely buying another in the future
  4. I recorded a quick demo of this yesterday Whilst blaming it on the boogie: First time both pickups on full Second neck pickup solo'd Third bridge pickup solo'd general noodling and NIB are varying degrees pickup volumes The signal chain is bass/EBS HD350/EBS Neo 2x12, on the head the compressor was switched off and the EQ bypassed. I wasn't planning on staring at the camera like it spilled my pint, but I only had time for one take. Also, apologies for the slap, I don't know what came over me.
  5. Probably this one Juan Alderete's playing is superb through the whole record
  6. Specs updated with the weight (4Kg)
  7. I use one of these, I'm very fond of it - it's the key part of my live tone
  8. If not them, try John East as he buys them direct from Lakland for the J-retros he builds for the Darryl Jones model
  9. Thanks Nick - yes that's the one; it's hard to do the finish justice in photographs, it's quite an unusual colour
  10. I was thinking the other day, that a DI box which could be loaded with a selection of IR cab sims would be a really good idea - and lo behold!
  11. Last night was excellent, we had a dep singer, so went out under another name. The singer is a pro musician so just dropped in and played almost perfectly, hopefully there'll be some photos uploaded soon. Plus, my temperemental amp behaved all night which was great. After just using wedges for so long, it was a bit odd to have the bass come from behind, rather than infront of me. It's nice to use an amp to monitor sometimes, as it does sound better than the PA, even if the footprint and weight usually don't justify it.
  12. I really like the bass tone on this album I'm beginning to think my ideal tone would be a picked P, but played with my fingers
  13. ***price now £800.00*** It pains me to do this, as I have no desire to part with the best four string I've ever owned, but, I mostly play five strings now and my house needs work done to it US built in 1995 Under-size body, so lightweight - 4kg G&L's proprietary ceramic MFD pickups - these sound huge; with a rich, clear, high output Jazz width neck Bolt-on with microtilt adjustment G&L Saddle-lock bridge Alder/rosewood Rare colour - "midnight blue swirl" Controls are volume/volume; there's no tone control but I never missed it - the two volumes interact more than you'd think Original hardshell case - this is a bit battered, but it is 23 years old Payment by bank transfer or cash on collection from Eastbourne BN20, though I'm regularly in East Grinstead and Crowborough so could arrange to meet up near one of those too; alternatively I can pack it for transport if you want to book a courier. Any questions, or if you want photos from any other angles, give me a shout Would trade for sorting out my bathroom, or replacing the floor in my hallway, but not for bass gear I'm afraid
  14. It's a bit like Napalm Death - the current lineup has no founding members in it, and the sound has shifted slightly since the beginning, but there's no doubt they are ND
  15. Weekend before last, they did a free show at a tiny venue in London, was very tempted to, but couldn't leave the wife to deal with the children on her own whilst I spent the entire day queuing for a ticket. Any idea who's on bass now Todd Strange has left again?
  16. I've just Tweeted this at GK, they seem quite active in Twitter, so might get picked up
  17. I came in half way through the blind test so didn't have a sheet, but was surprised that the ones I liked the most were the precisions, unsurprisingly I wasn't wild about the basses with flats on though, but I still couldn't identify anything 😁 My favourite was the black precision at the end (Graeme's?) then Cetera's Spector and then Paul's beaten up P copy. I did keep note of which order I preferred the amps in heft test though: Darkglass Quilter Markbass / Aguilar tied Handbox Trace Elliot Mesa Ampeg Peavey The volume on that tiny Quilter is nuts
  18. Great gig last night in Burgess Hill, place was packed as it was the bonfire procession and the pub is on the route. Whole band was on form and lots of happy punters through the night, so can't really ask for more than that. Met Carlos of this parish too, lovely chap but I forgot to ask his screen name, so can't tag him.
  19. Great day, big thanks to to the organisers, I particularly enjoyed Richard's talk. I didn't play many basses this year, but I did play a lovely wood Status belonging to Prowla and one of the short scales Jabbba built - superb work there I also love that we essentially came to the conclusion that all bases and all amps sound the same 😁
  20. Urgh, still over an hour away - in stationary traffic on the M23, haven't even got as far as whatever the M25 has in store yet 😡 Edit: Just had an ambulance, police car and two fire engines go past, might be here for a while; hope no-one's badly hurt.
  21. Is there anyone going who knows anything about solid state amp repairs?
  22. This one for me, love a bit of 'Arry
  23. If anyone wants to carry on the bash into the evening, my band Naked Bass are at The Inn in Burgess Hill Saturday night
  24. Pish, there's plenty of interesting vibrant bands within metal, no there's not been any groundbreaking new genres in years, but where has there been? Plenty of bands are releasing great albums either paying homage to their heroes or developing new takes on established sounds. To pick a few examples from 2017/2018: Wolves In The Throne Room, Converge, Akercocke, Rolo Tomassi, Zeal & Ardor, Sleep, Ihsahn, OHHMS, Der Weg Einer Freiheit, Oxbow, Dyscarnate, Conan, Sumac, Voices, Highland and SikTh have all released really good records. If metal doesn't appeal to you, fine, but maybe look a bit closer than the likes of Bring Me The Horizon before writing off an entire, wide-spanning genre.
  25. The new Conan - Exestential Void Guardian, superb
