  1. Sleep in Brighton on Thursday, looking forward to hearing one chord for two hours 😁
  2. Any Metallica album, but with Dave Lombardo on drums
  3. Our singer was resistant to IEM for a long time, but bought himself a set of KZ AS10s last week, I think almost on a whim. Once at the gig last weekend he loved them - getting people to give them a go in the first place is the tricky bit
  4. I don't think it's quite as good Mariner, but then that's probably in my top two records of all time, very good nonetheless. The last track - The Fall - is stunning
  5. The new Cult Of Luna record, I finally found the time to listen to it today and it's a belter
  6. I find the Made For You playlists on Spotify are good, found a couple of bands I like from there
  7. Congratulations! For our smallest, I found instrumental post-rock worked quite well - GSY!BE, Explosions In The Sky, Red Sparrows, This Will Destroy You etc Alternatively, try this playlist I made There are studies that show babies fall asleep to certain rhythms, Mariah Carey seems to use those, giving her the nickname Magic Mariah in our house 😃 Also, try the albums by Rockabye Baby - they do lullabye versions of all your favourite bands - I use the Tom Petty and Metallica albums on Spotify quite often
  8. I don't mind the headstock shape per se, it's not good, but I could live with it if I loved everything else about the bass. The font though 🤮
  9. You'll have to wait until he gets it from Heaven 17 😁
  10. Last night I saw Akercocke in Brighton, it was an all-dayer, but unfortunately I could only get there in time to see these guys headline. Really enjoyed it, but then they're one of my favourite bands and it was a 150 capacity venue. Great bass sound too, which you don't always get in extreme metal, I suspect it helps that I was about a metre away from the bassist and his monitor for most of the set. He used a Stingray 3EQ and Darkglass Alpha Omega with no amp on stage - really good tone and far less distorted than the stereotypical Darkglass sound.
  11. C - and try and flog as much merch as possible to cover costs
  12. The new Husbandry album - Brooklyn post-hardcore with Corina Zachary's superb vocals http://husbandryny.bandcamp.com/album/a-port-in-a-storm
  13. Also, Lionize - who are protege's of Clutch - have a new album coming out soon with Jean-Paul Gaster on drums. If I could play with any drummer it'd be him - he's such an expressive player, with so much groove
  14. Thanks - I didn't know they'd done one of these, will watch later
  15. Blast Tyrant, Clutch and Earth Rocker are probably my favourites
  16. I suspect the placement of the single split coil pickup isn't ideal for an articulate low B. Which is probably why you don't see many five string Ps and the ones that are out there are typically expensive, as it's taken more work to get it right. I'd was trawling through YouTube videos to try and find a P fiver with a decent low B not long ago, and from the videos I saw Xotic and the latest Fender professional series sounded good - not played any of them in the real world though.
  17. Given the love of your SB2, howabout G&L MFD humbuckers?
  18. Saturday was cracking - pub gig, but a good one, a couple of hen do's were in which helped, both sets flew past, could probably have played for another hour and not noticed. Our singer's pal was over from the States, he was asked what he'd do to improve the sound, as he has a music degree and our singer wasn't happy with the sound. What he meant was that the new microphone he was trying wasn't working how he'd hoped, but what his American mate did was start changing my amp EQ, scooping out the mids and boosting the low end. I wasn't thrilled with this, but, tried to take the pragmatic approach that he was out front and I wasn't, so he might be right even if it felt very counter-intuitive and sounded far muddier to how I'd normally set my sound. Over the course of the first set I tweaked it closer to how I would normally set the EQ, but kept it inline with what he suggested - start of the second set I was very happy with the tone. It threw me off a bit at the time, but worked out well in the end. The American fellow joined us on guitar for a couple of songs towards the end and was great, best of all he helped us break down the PA at the end of the night 😁
  19. Have their new album out today, listened to it at work earlier and really enjoyed it. It's instrumental rock from the Fugazi rhythm section - Joe Lally and Brendan Canty and guitarist Anthony Pirog. http://themessthetics.bandcamp.com/album/anthropocosmic-nest
  20. It was on one of the making-of documentaries that came with the albums, I can't remember which, so could have been Blood Mountain or Crack The Sky
  21. I had GAS for one of these for some time, as Troy Sanders used a Deity on one of Mastodon's records - Crack The Sky I think, good to see one on the wild
  22. I really liked the sound of the OFD, just couldn't get on with the interface.
  23. I had a problem with a Bass IQ pedal that I bought second hand, emailed them to see if they'd seen the problem before and if it could be fixed. One the directors emailed straight back to say that it probably needed the PCB swapping out, they had a spare there and if I covered the postage costs each way he was happy to change it over for free. I'm a big fan of their products and customer service
  24. So it's here, this is what I wrote on Facebook - I've only listened to it once, but looking forward to hearing it again: New Tool day - great, but not 13 years of work great. I did very much enjoy this more chilled-out Tool record and it will warrant repeat listens, but it (inevitably) couldn't stand up to over a decade of expectation and is probably their weakest album. There aren't really any new ideas here, like Slayer you know what you're getting - it sounds like Tool, and if that's your bag you'll like it, if not, there's nothing here you won't have heard on a previous album so probably not worth bothering with. It's a shame that what is almost certainly their swansong is their weakest work, but it is still an enjoyable album and one I suspect I'll be listening to quite a bit.
