1. Wow. How have I not heard of Richard Bona before????? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jmjBXoyugM
 2. 1986 Ibanez Roadstar II, made in Japan. Has a couple of dings on the body but nothing major and has a small touch-up job on the headstock. Plays as good as it looks, just not my thing - I'm going to have to accept I'm a Westone man! £180 + P&P. You are free to come round and test it out and get a cup of tea at the same time! Here's the pics:
 3.
We played our gig at The Claude, Cardiff last night. A place that we play regularly and usually the punters are quite well behaved in there. But, due to it being Black Friday (or Mad Friday) most of the pub were already wasted when we got there at 6.30pm. That set the tone tone for the rest of the evening. Two massive fights broke out whilst we were playing. One at the back of the pub which no-one really noticed, but a huge fight broke out by the entrance (which is close to the stage) between 4 of the door men and a bunch of lads trying to force their way through. No thanks to my singer, he directed everyones attention in the pub to the mini riot happening and piled out as quickly possible to have a gander....which then developed into a street brawl outside for about 20mins. We have a gig on Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day...all at rugby clubs!! Should be interesting to see how much more claret will be spilt over those three evenings!
I live over the road from The Claude and at least once a week there's a police van outside!
 4.
We used to play that song in our set a few years ago, but it used to empty the dance floor for some daft reason even though we made it funkier and a tad bit quicker. Philistines!
I think I'm gonna take the challenge and see if we can make it work...
 5. If our keyboard player is anything to go by, the best thing is the constant supply of drugs and the worst thing is... the constant supply of drugs. There's a good thread on the subject here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/173458-got-my-first-cruise-gig-starting-on-sunday-advice-please/page__st__20__p__1618647__hl__cruise__fromsearch__1#entry1618647
 6.
This has never happened to me. Because I knew before I bought any given bass that it was good. Because I tried it before I bought it. You wouldn't buy a car without test driving it. Don't buy a bass without playing it first. BTW, the Kingbass doesn't hang right on me, no matter what I do. Even Dawn agreed. I bought a Streamline instead. And it rarely gets played because i) it has one string too few, and ii) no matter how good it is, it's just bland-sounding.
Surely you tried the Streamline out before you bought it?
 7.
At risk of seeming humourless, I totally agree with these posts. Mr Percy should be allowed to advertise for a bass player as he sees fit, without let or hindrance - and as a member of Basschat he has every right to do so.
True, however he would have been wise to search Basschat for references to his Gumtree ad before posting perhaps... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/181660-you-know-where-you-can-shove-your-markbass/page__hl__mark%20percy
 8.
The guy had apparently recorded with Tim Rice so something somewhere was wrong.
I thought YOU were Tim Rice!
 9.
OP, you don't really come across very well in that post at all. So the guy is a bit of a bore, and lacks tact. So he doesn't play as big gigs as you do. It would be one thing to politely tell him there is no place for him on stage, and another thing altogether to come onto the internet and post a lengthy post about your own perceived self worth, how much of a dick he is, how much gear he has, and all the while crawling around your guitarist mate's arses.
+1 I'm afraid. Also, [quote/] I think this sums him up perfectly - "Jimmy Page was 21 when he wrote 'Stairway to Heaven', I could play it when I was 18 - I think that says a lot..."
Is lifted from somewhere- possibly Spinal Tap so it suggest he may be having some fun with you
 10. Played in Gwdihw in Cardiff last night with a dep drummer as ours had a serious injury. For someone who'd had 24 hours notice and we'd never met before, he was amazing! Made up some stuff on the spot as we like to do and there were lots of our saxy robot dancers around the place so a winner all round!
 11.
I play air bass left handed.. I play actual bass right handed. Odd I know.
I Air bass in my sleep - left handed! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VokAbAfTfCc I love how he takes off the air bass at the end!
 12. I think we've found something better than the spirit of Christmas - it's the spirit of Basschat!
 13. Can I go after you please, JazzBassFan?
 14. £3.50, but then I don't really like Fenders....
 15.
I ended up in the middle (but behind the singer) at the rehearsal of the 'scratch' band at the music academy on Sat. I stood there because that's where the bass amp was and I didn't feel I ought to move anything. it did feel a bit wierd tbh, and I wondered if it looked a bit strange as well. I'd prefer to be on one side or the other (don't mind which) so I can see what everyone else is doing. I didn't like to say anything at the time because I was a bit nervous and the musical director didn't say anything. But I think I might mention it at the next rehearsal. My cable would easily stretch over to a better position - as long as it's not a health and safety hazard!

'shell , we really have to talk !!!!!!!!!
That whole post is a double entendre!!!!
 16.
What?? You can't have the bass in the middle - it's against the law!
It also means I have the bass drum right behind me which helps me lock in with that nicely.
 17. Centre stage for me as I generally call out any cues when we're improvising (which is most of the time)!
 18. Great gig last night! 8 of us on a teeny tiny stage so it was a bit tricky to know where to point my headstock but it did mean we could all hear each other perfectly. It was underneath a Caribbean restaurant called Mr G's and the first set was pretty quiet at the beginning with only 2 people there but 5 or 6 songs in loads of people turned up and started grooving - love it! G, the owner, sorted us out with food and drinks all night on top of a very decent payment - result! Loving the gigs with this band at the moment
 19.
No broken strings this time Chay I wa seeing a theme developing, first you, then the guitarist.... Didn't the drummer break a drumstick or something
No broken strings, though the drummer DID break a drumstick - when he threw it at the guitarist's head for coming in a beat early! When are you coming to see us then eh?
 20. Another Ibanez - yum yum! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IBANEZ-ST980-8-String-Bass-1980-Japanese-built-RARE-/150959226879?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2325deffff
 21. Stripped-down Ibanez Musician. Not entirely sure I like this finish but it might keep the price on the low side.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IBANEZ-MUSICIAN-FRETLESS-BASS-GUITAR-VINTAGE-BEAUTIFUL-/330840517016?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4d07a1a998
 22. I usually put it above the crowd somewhere using a gorilla pod, but I like the mic stand idea! Will try it on Saturday
 23. Liking the new ideas for the Marketplace and I'd gladly pay a yearly sub for it - it may encourage sellers to stick around too.
 24.
I'd like to know what we sound like recorded so can i ask you what recording device you use?
We used a Zoom H2N pretty good sound, better if you're all going through the desk though and just plug it in to the record out on the desk.
 25. I recorded our gig on Friday expecting to be critical of my playing (in a good way, in order to improve) but I was surprised at how good I sound! In one song I was playing fills I didn't know I could! Anyone else listened to themselves and been much better than expected?
