1. Do I Do with all the fills is a good finger workout. Although when I see Nate Watts play it it doesn't look like he's moving his fingers at all!
2. In the OP I was talking about bass as a whole really, based on what I was told last Saturday (As I said in the post and which is why I stated that as my source and posed a question rather than stating things as facts) Personally I agree with the majority of the posters here in that I don't believe that bass players are going to be out of work - from a personal perspective I'm doing more than ever! I was a bit naughty with my opening post and hoping to encourage a bit of debate and find out if anyone had come across producers mastering for mobile phones etc. 51mon's posts were full of the sort of info I was hoping to see.
3. We have 2 defitie gigs this week - Thurday in Koko Gorillaz and Friday in The Moon club. We may possibly be playing in The Yard on Saturday but haven't confirmed this yet. If you fancy some funk/soul/latin come down and say hi!
4. I'll take it please!
5.
At the Cardiff bass bash (which was great!) on Saturday a discussion came up about how Pj Harvey's last album only had bass (guitar) on 1 track and how we should record bass parts for the rest of the album as she had 'forgotten' to.

Personally I think it's very presumptuous of the OP to consider writing bass parts for recorded songs that don't have them and were obviously written and arranged in such a way that the composer/writers felt that bass parts were unnecessary. In the (almost) 40 years that I have been writing music,

I'm sure PJ Harvey can figure out her own bass parts if she needs to. .
Apologies, I had thought that the smilie would indicate that our suggestion was entirely tongue-in cheek.
6. At the Cardiff bass bash (which was great!) on Saturday a discussion came up about how Pj Harvey's last album only had bass (guitar) on 1 track and how we should record bass parts for the rest of the album as she had 'forgotten' to. Anyway, from this, someone mentioned that earlier in the year 3 of the top 10 billboard chart singles had no bass at all! And the reason for this is that songs are being produced and mixed for mobile phone speakers. Does this spell the end for bass players? (obviously not but it's a good starting point for discussion!)
7. Was great to meet everyone today! Some lovely Basschat people with lovely gear! Thanks again for putting it on Gelfin and Lemoncello - I didn't realise you were Lemoncello! Looking forward to the next one
8.
Think I've missed something here. You have fight scenes? Please can we have some more detail?
This was for a ska musical and as well as playing I had one scene has a security guard in the Jobcentre with one line - "F**K This!" and yes, a fight scene where the whole band pile in on stage - great fun!
9.
PM'd re: amp RC4 and gig bag.
I bet you did! Bargain!
10. Only a couple of days to go!
11. Do you think the OP has found a solution in the last 3 years?
12. IE9, I think
13. Do you have any plans to play Cardiff at all? I go to jam nights with Burke Shelley fairly regularly and it would be fun to go along with him to see you guys!
14. When I'm using Internet Explorer, I can't use the return key in my posts or PM's. Not a huge problem as I also use Chrome ( like I'm doing now), but I was wondering if this was a known problem?
15. Last show of a 10 gig run last night and it was great! Still too drunk to type much so will add details later... EDIT: Sobered up a bit now Great gig and we were tight after doing 10 nights in a row, which was good because the drummer decided not to do a count in but just do a single hi-hat hit (without telling anyone first!)..... Audience were well up for it and we did afew songs extra at the end for the dancers. Only downside was that in my fight scene I accidentally connected one of the punches and my hand hurt like hell for the next 2 numbers!
16. That's quite a difference from the £600+ everyone else is doing it for....
17. +1 Check for damp, and check your insurance policy.
18. Played at a warehouse party last - amazing fun! The vocal sound took a couple of songs to get right as the sound guy was stoned off his box and we had to turn right down at one point as the council noise chaps came round but 10 mins later and the levels started going up again. Will have video soon!
19. Show No.3 of RUDE: Didn't do a full sound check and as a result my levels were a little low for the first couple of songs till I got a chance to get back to the amp - that'll learn me! We had a soprano sax covering for the trumpet player last night which I had initially thought was a terrible idea, but when it came to the show he was really good - it wasn't the same but it worked. This show has also taught me the art of the quick slide down the neck to end a sonfg - something which I'd never really been able to do before for some reason but I've got it sounding nice now 7 more to go!
20. Thanks for the heads up on the tour - just bought tickets to see them in Bristol!
21. I bought the Maplin one a month ago - dammit!
22.
Thanks for this - I am a huge IH fan too. I had seen this clip before and have been looking for for ages on you tube. I think the bass player might be James Alexander - the only member of the Bar-Kays who survived as he didn't get on the plane with Otis Redding.... EDIT: Just read the wiki - apparently the wasn't the only survivor - the trumpet player actually on the plane survived the crash.
The bass player IS James Alexander - although, laughably, Carole Kaye has claimed she played bass on it....
