1. Michael Tobias Designs Kingston Artist 5-string active bass in Amber Gloss for sale. If you're looking for a lightweight (8lbs 7oz), 35" scale Stingray 5 soundalike with a 19mm string spacing then this is for you. It's a great sounding bass with a lot of punch from the Alnico humbucker, very light and well balanced and the asymmetric neck profile makes it feel very comfortable to play. The colour is Amber Gloss which looks a lot deeper and richer in the flesh than in my terrible camera phone pics. Full specifications are here: http://www.mtdkingst...sses/artist.htm There are no photographable marks on the body or neck of this bass. The only blemish is a slight scuffing on the top of the headstock. Apart from that it's a good as new. It's recently been set up with DR Sunbeams and the price includes a very handsome burgundy red and black MTD gig bag with leather straps and the MTD logo embroidered onto the pocket. For sale at £350. Not looking for trades. I would prefer to have this collected from Ipswich, or meet up in the surrounding area or London. I'd prefer not to ship since I don't have a hard case, but I''ll pack it well if you wish to organise a courier. .
2. Zoom B1Xon for sale. In original packaging including the original, unopened and unused, batteries. Apart from very slight damage to the bottom of one of the rubber feet this is in as-new condition. £35 posted.
3.
The person that fixes things is a technician and the one that designs it is an engineer. In the U.K. there are Chartered Engineers (CEng), and Incorporated Engineers (IEng).
I understand this: I have an honours degree in mechanical engineering and was a member of I.Mech.E, before jobs in manufacturing industry disappeared during the Thatcher years and I retrained as a computer scientist. Galling it may be, but that's still not the way it works in practice, 30 years later.
Tbe person that mixes live sound would surely go through the arts route at college/uni finally achieving a BA. rather than a BSc. So not an Engineer.
It depends. The pinnacle of sound recording courses in the UK is widely acknowledged to be the Tonmeister course at the University of Surrey. The entry requirements are maths and physics at A level and the syllabus includes a lot of moderately difficult audio engineering maths. People graduate with a B.Mus from the Faculty of Music. Not that you will find too many Tonmeisters mixing the house PA down at the Dog and Duck. If your point is that one can't be an engineer unless one has a B.Sc. I disagree. Cambridge has a fine engineering department and doesn't award any science degrees.
4.
Or a Baja Sexto. Not quite the same but getting there.
A Bajo Sexto is nothing like a guitarron. It has 12 strings and is more like an oversized guitar.
5. I have had very good results from the MXR but if I were in the market now I would be looking at the Keeley Pro, which has all the right knobs and monitoring.
6. MarkBass themselves say that resetting the operating voltage is a job for their service centres. That bottom jumper says 120V - I'd be wary of going anywhere near that unless I was absolutely certain it wasn't going to cause the thing to be set to US voltage. Also worth noting is that if the amp is still under warranty you will invalidate it by messing with the voltage selection.
7. A Reidmar and one EBS212 will surely be loud enough for anything not requiring PA support? Given you are close to Sweden, I would be looking at TKS Engineering cabs.
8. Music produktiv have stock but the price is less attractive.
9.
If you go to eBay and search for Ultimate Pro Audio and then message the shop owner, he'll make up whatever length cable you want and whatever jack plugs you prefer. Good value too. Or obbm on here is well worth a punt and comes highly recommended.
Thanks for the heads up but I make all my own cables.
10.
That works doesn't it... although I'm probably stating the obvious when I say a longer lead would be preferable so the pouch can be mounted the other way around?
Yes, I'd agree with that. All I have to hand at the moment though is really short patch cables or 1m + which is too long. I can't use right angles on my bass, they won't fit in the socket.
11.
Excellent - a pic of that would be appreciated too!
Ha ha, I was just taking one when you posted!
12. Excellent, now I finally have a use for those pointless phone-pockets that are supplied with laptop backpacks and are too small to hold a modern smartphone! 14.
.., an Engineer is a person qualified to degree level in their particular field of engineering.
In the UK, this is wishful thinking, usually on the part of people with engineering degrees. In other parts of Europe maybe, but here an engineer is someone who fixes washing machines. The term Engineering is derived from the Latin ingenium, meaning "cleverness" and ingeniare, meaning "to contrive, devise".
15. I've had good cheap strings from www.webstrings.com , but the exchange rate was a bit more favourable.
16. I have an old-style Nordstrand 2b-4c preamp in one of my basses which has an active/passive switch and a passive tone control. Very rarely use it in passive mode, the battery seems to last for years.
17. The Thomann one looks like the Stentor Music/Countryman brand. They are made in Rumania and are good enough for you to find out whether it's the instrument for you or not. If you can afford a bit more, the Ashbury AM325 is a decent instrument and they pop up from time to time on Ebay. Blue Moon probably also make something in the range - if you can get to a Hobgoblin shop they're likely to have a range of things you can try, or Eagle Music in Huddersfield. Octave Mandolin strings are normally in unison. Most bouzoukis will have at least one course and possibly two as octaves, which gives you a completely different sound. I've played bouzouki for Irish traditional music for many years, I use GDAD, ADAD or AEAE. I wouldn't contemplate using GDAE, scale length is too long and most bouzoukis are too quiet to be heard playing single line stuff in a session. I also have a 10-string bouzouki that is normally tuned in DADAD or DGDAD, which gives mandocello-like lows. Normally I'll capo this at 3, 5 or 7 to give me an open F, G or A - it's like capoing up a 4-course instrument without losing the lower notes.
18. Wow, Tinman, welcome back. As far as Skegness is concerned it's more why than where. The gig will be at Butlins holiday camp, they do all kinds of weekend events in the off season to keep the money rolling in, there are folk, country and Ska as well as the blues one. I went there once in February for the national brass band contest. It was the first weekend since the new year closure and everything was freezing cold. Never again.
19. Some great information here. The Alto TX range seems to offer a lot of cool technology for not very much money, at the other end of the scale.
20. Think that is also EMG40 size. I'd be looking at Nordstrand Big Singles, but you won't get much change out of £200 !

22.
I've no doubt about it working but I don't think it's a great image, especially being pure white and looking a bit like an Apple gadget (although that might appeal to some ).
You could try putting it on the back of the headstock - you can still read it, but the punters can't see it.
23. Sorry to hear of your troubles thebrig. I know there are internet jam sites that can provide some interaction with fellow musicians without having to leave the house. I guess that there are also virtual bands, playing virtual gigs, though I'm not sure how the audience participation works out.
24. I think I have tried pretty well everything that is available except for a midi bass, and the only thing that has been remotely successful for me at replicating actual recorded synth sounds was the Roland VB99 .
25. I think that performance of Hard Times by Madeleine Peyroux was probably the worst live performance I've ever heard on British TV, and when I started watching there were only 2 channels.
