1. Yes it's a cracking place, reminded me of the Bass Centre in it's heyday. I went in to kill a bit of time while my good wife was shopping. Three cups of coffee later and I ended up with a shuttle 6 and mark bass cab. Want to go back, but just can't risk it at the moment. Top blokes.
2. Not sure if this is what you want, but I've got operating instruction manual for gp12smx and gp7sm (applies to all sm and smx series models apparently). Can't recal what year I purchased my trace but think it was early nineties. If you want it pm me your details and I'll post it on to you.
3. That just looks so nice. Strange really a few years back the last thing I wanted was a fender of any sort and was always gassing for an exotic active model, the more knobs, switches and lights the better. Gone completely the other way now: loving passive basses, minimum hardware and conservative looking. Think its the same with my playing. Nothing fancy and hopefully just what the songs need, no slapping, tapping and all the other stuff I used to try to fit in. Certainly get so many more compliments these days from other band members. A couple more years and it will be root notes only with the occasional visit to a 5th Do you park it on the stairs, prior to taking it up to bed Help is available
4. I've always meant to look into the possibility of installing a switching option to allow passive use on mine. What do you reckon, is it feasible?
5. I was totally underwhelmed and thought both songs were very weak.
6. I told myself not to open this thread. OMG wish I hadn't. It's got me all gassed up again. Going for a lie down now. That's lovely matey. What about some pics of how it was previously.
7. Trying to learn the set list for a dep later in the year, so far: Dakota-stereophonics sit down-james live forever-oasis why does it always rain on me-travis laid-james good souls-star sailor getting away with it-james. only another nineteen numbers to go.
8. hugely impressive, but couldn't listen to much more than 30 seconds of it
9. For gigging I'm currently using a Genz Benz shuttle 6 and two Mark Bass 2 x 10's and for rehearsing just one of the 2 x 10's. Really pleased with it and cuts through nicely, even with four guitars . keyboards and drums.
10. I'll have to revisit this thread when I'm not so tired, it's making my head all fuzzy
11. I found out that they are different sizes only after I had spent an afternoon taking out the originals and soldering in my new wizards. Was feeling very pleased with myself, until I went to refit the pickguard. I know, yes it was very stupid, but it took me a time a suss what I had done wrong, got to admit to thinking of filing the pickguard to make it fit, rather than unsolder everything.
12. congrats and well done
13. If I lived in Nottingham, was more aggressive and could do b.v.s I would deffo be your man.
14. Worked on the three james tracks last night. They all seemed very straight forward, infact Getting Away With It was a good lesson in disipline. It's just four chords repeated over and over and to make it more interesting I initially started putting in little runs etc. But fairly quickly realised it was better just playing the roots and nailing the timing. It's surprisingly difficult sometimes to keep things simple and not try to "improve" it.
15. love Rythmn Stick, but so glad it's not on the list that I've got to learn.
How long have you got
The gig isn't til october
16. Just been sent this set list for a dep that I've been asked to do: Dakota- Stereophonics Sit down-James Live forever-oasis Why does it always rain on me- travis Laid-James Good Souls-Starsailor Stop and Stare-One Republic Getting Away with it- James Teenage kicks-Undertones Love it when you call- the Feeling American Idiot- Green Day Have a nice day-Stereophonics Twist and Shout- The Beatles Mustang Sally- The Commitments. Never Miss a Beat- kaiser Chiefs Monster- the Automatic Creep- Radiohead Sex on Fire-Kings of Leon Read my Mind-The Killers Starlight-Muse Yellow-Coldplay Dont look back in anger-Oasis Valerie-Mark Ronson Ruby - Kaiser Chiefs I predict a riot-Kaiser Chiefs All the Small Things-Blink 182 Message in A Bottle-The Police Chasing Cars-Snow Patrol I think it's a good set, but there are only two on the list that I've ever played, Mustang Sally of course and Twist and Shout. So plenty to learn, but looking forward to the challenge.
17. My wife thinks I'm a sad ole git for liking ozric, but I just do. I tend to play it when I'm home alone, as it's a bit of a guilty pleasure in this household. Loving the bass on ayuredic. Sure I read that the original bass player had some sort of manic condition, which the other band members thought was was a major influence on his very fast and hectic playing.
18. Pleased for you and it sounds like a good set list.
19. Started rehearsing this last week with the band, didn;t much fancy doing it, but ended up really enjoying it and got it grooving quite nicely, (but tooooo many guitarists widdling about when they shouldn't have been).
20. Don't shout matey I've got a wicked head ache tonight. I can recommend Giants of Bass by Stuart Clayton. Bit of theory and technique, written in a very easy to understand style. The rest of the book covering the styles, techniques and kit used by the the "giants". Also a couple of CD's to play along with. Not one of the cheapies at £19.99, but I think it's good value. Cheers, Gary.
21. Okey doke, will do, thanks for that. Was interested to know whether any BCers had any experience with them though.
22. I have spotted on the Bass Direct site an USB jack lead for a direct route from bass to computer. Anyone tried one? Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated before I hand over my wifes hard earnt. Cheers, Gary.
23. I've got an identical one. They are cracking basses. Love the through neck. Good luck with the sale, I shall watch with interest. I have sometimes thought about selling mine as I don't play it so much these days, but every time that I open the case it's love again. So much better than alot of precisions that I've tried (and I love fenders).
24. Last night for some reason i had the bass line from Ramble On (led zepp), stuck in my head. So I've spent a couple of hours this afternoon working on it. An enjoyable time on what has otherwise been a very miserable day.
