  1. Damn, wish I was closer geographically. Having enjoyed acouple of depps with a local rock band, I'm looking for a proper rocking band in herts/essex for a more permanent position. most of the ads I've checked out are either much younger bands or bedroom rockers having a mid life crisis. . Really getting cheesed off with all the guitarists who just want to play twelve bar blues. Not that there's ought wrong with the blues, but more often than not it just seems with these guys it is a bit of a cop out. Good luck with your search
  2. Thanks Pork Pie. Yes like I said it's all on hold now. Luck not good at the mo, but such is life. On the plus side, at least it's sunny here today and I've been able to do a bit in the garden. Always helps blow the cobwebs away and clear the glum head.
  3. Hi matey. It's a USA precision deluxe, purchased new from the Bass Centre when they were in Wapping. It was a strange purchase for me at the time, as I just didn't want a Fender. I had actually purchased an Alembic from them, after gassing for one for years. Got it home and fairly quickly realised it wasn't for me. Kept it for a few weeks and got all depressed about it, thinking I had wasted a whole load of dosh. Anyway explained my predicament to the chaps at BC and they kindly offered to take it back. Saw the the Fender and fell in love It is an awesome bass, gigged with it last weekend and it sounded huge. The only thing I'm not too sure about is the pickguard, a bit too Shadows maybe.
  4. Nice review. I hate the saddle screw issue on some basses, being mostly a pick player I've had a few incidents. Mind you it looks so rock and roll with blood dripping from the palm onto the bass. Best bit of the review? You can spell Squier ^_^
  5. That looks damn fine. If it's a keeper are you planning any upgrades?
  6. UPDATE Fender GAS on hold due to a run of expensive bad luck: Had to have half the lounge floor pulled up to fix a central heating problem. Now waiting for a two day plumbing bill. My trusty old car has died. Had to order a new front door today. Wife loses her job in two weeks time. Spose it could be worse.
  7. Excellent news, chuffed for you.
  8. Feel you that's a real blow. All the best, mate
  9. depends really. If it's Mustang Sally or Brown Eyed Girl then I don't look at the bass. If it's Mr Brightside, Lose my Mind or maybe a Muse number, then I have to watch what I'm doing a bit more.
  10. Don't know about that, but someone is bound to be along soon who does know. My last trace combo had a fan that I thought was loud, it used to really irritate when using at home for practice, but was never an issue when gigging, not even between numbers.
  11. Due to being a bit bored and very glum today I decided to have a bass day. I've spent the afternoon with my bb1200 and the Wal. Can't believe I was contemplating letting either of them go in order to fund the fender gas. The yamaha hadn't been out of it's case in a while and I suppose I had forgotten what a quality piece of kit that it is. It was such a joy opening the case and getting it out for a play, didn't even need a tune up. The action is perfect (for me)and everything functions perfectly. Put my ipod on shuffle and played along to everything from soul, funk, reggae and rock. Sounded like a precision when I wanted it to and funky when required. Will fit some strap locks this evening and take it out to kick up a din tomorrow night for rehearsals. And the Wal........ ....well I'm all loved up again. Still got the fender gas though. But it will have to wait. Thanks for all the earlier replies and info. Cheers, Gary.
  12. Hi mate. Love the look of your jazz. I put a set of wizard 64's in my Vintage modified jazz and think it was a first class upgrade. Even get compliments on the sound from guitarists! Can't comment on any other makes I'm afraid, as this has been the only bass so far that I've tinkered with. But I wouldn't hesitate to use them again on future projects. seventy quid (or thereabout) well spent. All the best, Gary
  13. What's to hate about a through neck? I'm not being argumentative, just interested. Never owned a Warwick but have lusted after some of them.
  14. Thanks Ian. Think you have probably saved me wasting dosh. Due to serious financial restraints I've been tempted with these and similiar ones on the bay. For the foreseeable it's going to be string boiling for me.
  15. Thanks Beer Dragon, will check it out later All the best, Gary
  16. Hope that someone can help. I've got a depp tomorrow night and this song is in the set. I've been sitting here playing along with the CD, but I'm having a problem with one particular section and that is the chord/note progression at the the end of the guitar solo resolving back to the chorus. Feel like a bit of a novice asking for help, but just don't seem to be able to nail it on my own Cheers all the best, Gary
  17. Thanks Old Git, had a look at the link and saved it. Tisch bein: Tell me about your jazz, thanks
  18. sounds like my sort of thing,, but at at forty plus, well 51 actually, guess I'd be too fozzilised for you guys. Good luck with your search.
  19. Can see what you mean about the high action, Good luck with sale though
  20. It all seems a bit of a mine field. Watching a few on E bay, but mostly from the states. Some seem unrealistically expensive and then there is the shipping and presumably import duties Thanks for all the tips and pointers, I'm sure I will be asking more questions if I ever track one down that is affordable to me. Maybe it is time to move on my Wal and Yamaha's to help fund it. Cheers, Gary
  21. Chin up mate. Think yourself lucky, the function band I play with usually has four/five guitards. I cope with your grief, times four. I do sympathise, but as for advice, I'm not your man today. My heads all fuzzy as I just watched an episode of Jeremy Kiel, where do these people all hide out when not an that show.
  22. A nice pair, hardly jealous at all. Hope you enjoy. All the best
  23. Love that Fender. I've been gassing for a seventies one, but this soo tempting. Particularly interested if it's not overly heavy. Cheers, Gary
