  1. When you say that you never use it for obvious reasons, are you saying that it's not playable?
  2. Guitarists inane widdling and tuning up between songs, is what finally made me leave the band I was with for a few years. It's unbearable when one guitarist does it, but in that particular band there were five of them.............it was HELL.
  3. Apologies to the BC'er who pm'd me. I managed to delete it instead of replying. Thanks all the same, but no inclination for a five stringer. All the best, Gary
  4. A bump prior to Ebaying or keeping.
  5. Just received the new Amy Macdonald album, birthday pressie from my good wife. So, having my first listen whilst perusing basschat.

Can't remember exactly when I got it, sometime in the nineties. Got it from the Bass Centre in Wapping. I never wanted a Fender at the time. I had actually lusted after an Allembic for years and finally treated myself to one. Got it home and although I tried, I just couldn't take to it. Got myself in a right old state about it and about a month later travelled back up to Wapping. The Bass Centre were brilliant. They let me exchange it. I tried a whole load of different basses that I liked at that time, (all fancy wood and electronics). As a bit of an after thought I picked up the Fender and quickly realised how good it was. That was it. At the time the last thing I expected to be going home with was a Fender. It's a joy to play and one of those basses that I just can't walk past without stopping for a play or just a look. Can't recall the price, maybe about £1,200. I have the receipt somewhere, if I can find it I'll let you know the year and price. All the best, Gary

Here's my one [attachment=44846:014.jpg] Used it yesterday for my first rehearsal with a new band. It sounded hugely impressive.
  8. Once I have shown this thread to my good wife, I'm suspecting that she will never ever moan again about my collection of basses again.
  9. I recently bought one of these sets of 3 off ebay. Currently got a set on my vmj and they have been fine. Maybe not the best, but good enough.
  10. I've just had my first foray in to the world of chorus, having recently purchased a pedal. We have been rehearsing Duran Durans Save a Prayer and according to John Taylor, chorus was used on the original recording. It does sound damn fine, but I have only used it in rehearsal so far. Good fun and I think a very useful effect, but not to be overused!
  11. First rehearsal with a new band coming up at the weekend. So got to learn twenty or so numbers. Today Ashes to Ashes, Going Underground and Won't Get Fooled Again.
  12. You are not sounding like a whiny twat at all. More like the sort of person who can live and learn, and take a constructive critique on the chin.
  13. I think I'm getting to grips with it now. How about you Urban bassman? Just need to nail another twenty or songs ready for first rehearsal tuesday night.
  14. I guess it very much depends on what sound you are trying to achieve and style/genre of music that you are playing. Do you need an all rounder that would be comfortable in any situation. Give us a few more details. All the best Gary
  15. Thanks Urban bassman. He's got quite a clanky tone going there as well for a p bass.
  16. Most helpful chaps, thank you. Will have another bash at it today
  17. trying to learn Going Underground and struggling with it. Another 20 songs to go for rehearsal with new band.
  18. Nice one, enjoy. My Yamaha BB1200[attachment=43546:005.jpg]
  19. I don't usually resort to tabs, but I'm struggling with The Jam, Going Underground and need to get it nailed by the weekend for my first rehearsal with a new band. The tabs that I have tracked down, just don't seem right, infact a couple of them are very wrong. Anyone able to point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance. Gary
  20. Good man, I just love Northern Soul. Although it was a guilty pleasure when i first got in to it back in the 70's, because at the time myself and all of my peer group were into prog and heavy stuff. I had one denim jacket covered with badges and patches of Led Zepp, Heavy Metal Kids, Sabbath and such like. And another one with the Torch and Wigan Casino and the like, that I wore away from home. Rebel without a clue!
  21. Any thoughts? Not at the moment, think I will need to re read your post a few times, before my befuddled head can get to grips with it. Sorry.
  22. I'm not sure that is really. I have a MIA deluxe precision with the option of through body stringing. Have tried stringing both ways and couldn't hear any difference. Well maybe a slight difference, but certainly not enough to be noticeable in a gigging situation. I'm sure there will be plenty out there with a different perspective though.
