1.
Exactly the setup I would go with right there... How's the Terror/Four10 combination?
It'll do the job, we're playing in drop B so tbh I wasn't expecting it to compete with the Dubster for all out low end, as I said I expect it'll get a little deeper as the speakers loosen up, no worries on the volume front with the Terror, I haven't tried the OB1 yet, more mids and highs obviously than the Dubster and a nice growl was easily found, I imagine it'll be a popular addition to the Barefaced range, not everyone will like it as with any cab but I think there will be more likers than haters. And the finish is impeccable.
2. Here's a picture of mine at practice last weekend, it's not very big 😁, volume in spades not as crushingly low end as the Dubster but the speakers will no doubt loosen up a bit after a few hours.
3. Mine's 8ohm, 2ohm no good to me so I'm hoping the new generation speakers will make good the difference between the 4ohm Dubster and the Four10. I can switch the Terror to 8ohm impedance if I have to obviously but not the OB1.
4. I always use schallers, couldn't bring myself to go without some sort of lock, I have seen Mike Dean's Sadowsky jazz bass hit the floor numerous times whilst watching Corrosion of Conformity and I cringe every time, he just picks it up screws the stud back in and carries on, for the life of me I can't understand why he doesn't use locks.
5. Mine arrived today, very impressed with it, looks the business and sounds really nice at front room volume, trying it at any real volume has to wait till the weekend though.
6. Bought a set of strings off Si, great stuff start to finish. Cheers Tim.
7. They've gone up once because the first 10 have obviously sold, the second 10 won't last long then they'll go up again...
8. I look at it this way, I don't kid myself that I'm any great player, but I am sure of one thing, I'm here once, and once only. So as long as you're not spending money you haven't got I'd say have it mate.
9. Pulled the trigger on one this morning.... ☺
10. I have the 500 but I know someone who has the 300, you won't be left lacking.
11. Bought new in 1983, still going strong. 😊
12. I have both, either will do the job both good strong cases, SKB was a good price on Amazon when I got it, Hiscox is British built though ☺.
13. You'll probably find opinions swayed by personal experience, I also had next to no customer service from Korg uk when I bought a Hartke Kilo when they first came out, it went down very quick, less than 8hrs use over 2 months, the retailer arranged pick up from me and sent it to Korg who promptly led me a dance of false promises and bulls**t for 12 weeks. I know a lot of people like Hartke and have no problems but once bitten... The cabs always sound ok whenever I hear them though.
14. There's a big multi storey right behind it, Frogmore street I think it is.Correction Trenchard Street.
15. Motorhead, Another Perfect Tour when Brian Robertson was in the band, Slayer, South Of Heaven tour, The Prodigy at Newport Centre.
16. Setup aside I wouldn't buy a Mexican Fender online after a recent visit to my local PMT, all the Mexican models I looked at that day had a very poor neck to pocket fit, you could have slipped a pick in between the neck and pocket edge on most of them. I realise this might have been a one off batch but it put me off, USA models looked fine, you couldn't fit a rizla in the joint's on my Squier's so I would expect a bass with the F word on the headstock to be as good if not better. I would go to a shop and choose if you have the option to do so.
17.
Same here, that happened at our last gig, if I was in a pub and we were playing, I'd leave. Lots of people don't though..!!!!!
Same here, we know what we do isn't for everyone but those who like it, like it, and always compliment on the sound (mostly without pa support too) even though it is massively loud.
18.
Yes, of all the basses I have or ever owned this has to be the worst fitting neck I have seen. <p> Report item Description Postage and payments eBay item number: 351656344704 Seller assumes all responsibility for this listing. Item specifics Condition: Used : Seller notes: “GENERALLY EXCELLANT, SOME MINOR WARE, VINTAGE ITEM, SEE PHOTOS AND DESCRIPTON FOR FULL DETAILS” Type: Electric Bass Size: 4/4 Brand: Tokai Right-/ Left-Handed: Right-Handed MPN: Does Not Apply No. of Strings: 4 string EAN: Does not apply Questions and answers about this item No questions or answers have been posted about this item. Ask a question- opens in a new window or tab Recently viewed items Feedback on our suggestions
I had a 'I ought to have a fender' phase a while ago, the upshot being a trip to Bristol and a good look round pmt, virtually every mexican jazz they had on display had a pocket gap big enough to slip a pick in either side, leading me to think they're very hit and miss. The usa models were no better built than my old Tokai, I left with a smile on my face and my money still in my pocket 😊. (The phase has passed)
19. Sounds a possibility, both mine are very tight despite the difference in age between them.
20. My Jazz has the 3 screw with collar type, so they were in use till 83 for sure.
21. Various 'scientific' guitarist reasons... 😉, admittedly the genre demands volume but it's hard work sometimes, a few weeks ago I thought we'd finished one night and took a plug out, "Let's just do that new one again..." says he, which we did, I can truthfully state I wouldn't stay to watch us in our normal type venue without good plugs.
22. My 83 Jazz (owned from new) has the slotted truss adjuster, my Hardpuncher which I bought new a few years ago has an Allen headed adjuster.
23. I long for the chance to listen at sane volume levels, we average around 135db at practice (I always wear earplugs). No wonder the others are always moaning "My ears are ringing"... Hardly surprising seeing as you insist on playing at that volume lads...... 😒
