I like the headstock. If only it was medium scale.

Also Bass Buddha. He mainly reviews basses but there are some good interviews too. His demeanor is like a slice of mindfulness and I always come away feeling a bit more smiley and relaxed.

Re HB-550... If you pull up the Vol knob it then goes passive incase anyone doesn't know. I prefer mine in passive so no battery probs. I use it as a kill switch instead.

It's a Harley Benton thing now too. The PB-20 (the cheapest P they do) has purpleheart for a fingerboard now they're not using rosewood. Although they call it Amaranth. Same wood though. Very hard wood, so tonally in the same park as Pao Ferro. Surprising really for an 80 quid bass!

I'm still in the kids taking up most of my time outside of work (and that's brilliant btw once I finally got my head around it and refocused my priorities!) except I'm 10 years down that road but still there as my eldest has full on ADHD and autism, but all good! 🌈 For the last few years I've been getting a new bass every 6 months on average, doing the one in one out thing. Changing to suit whatever I'm listening to. Sounds mad but I have really enjoyed it! Playing with GAS when there's not much time to play has kept me sane and in the game in a way! What I'm getting to is that things have really progressed for me during lockdown. I'm back in touch with some of my besties (I live far away from where I'm from) as everyone has had to get along with Zoom at al.. I'm now getting 15 minute drum tracks off one mate who is amazing. I'm pottering around my day listening to them, scatting basslines as I go and coming up with really original stuff that's exciting me. I record said bass scatting along to the track then work it out when I can grab my play hour Amazing what you can do without holding the bass and just letting your imagination get involved unhindered.No same old patterns to hold me back. I suggest getting involved with others online and create. Just because. Just because it's fun! No commitments, dip in for an hour when you can and just enjoy the therapy from life that music provides. The payment is doing it. Yes, a new bass can bring you on and inspire you for sure. Having some project to yank your chain, getting you thinking and something to work towards much more so! I hope you find your mojo mate. Big hi 5.. you got this! 👊

Wow that's quite a trail you've managed to follow there! My 'one that got away' is an 80s Stingray 2eq in translucent red, rosewood board, black pickguard and a bit of flame to the neck. I had a Duncan hot jazz pickup in the neck position added. Finish was worn through on the forearm contour. Sold around Easter 2002 to a studio in the Docklands area of London. If anyone on here has it let me know! 👍 I've looked on line for pics of any ads etc. but nothing. The trail went cold the day I sold it. Good luck with your search Andy, I hope you get lucky. 🤞

Revelation basses are astonishing for the money. I had an RPB'65 fretless that I stupidly sold for no good reason. It was perfect.

Hit the reclaimation yards for some Victorian pine. It will be well seasoned by now 😉. I really fancy making a new bass that is over a century old!

I read that the Damian Erskine book is brilliant and it seemed to be structured in a way that I meant would actually read it. I did a Google to order one and upon seeing a picture of the cover I thought, "hmmm, that rings a bell." Went over to my music shelf and there it was! 3 years old, unopened and rather dusty! 😂

Ah.. Your chord tones are the 1,3,5,7 of whichever scale you're looking at. The first inversion is just playing it 3,5,7,1 Second inversion is 5,7,1,3 Third inversion is 7,1,3,5 I know at first it all sounds high falutin but it's not at all. Inversions are great because it keeps you off just doing mainly the root thing and they make you harmonise in an easy way that sounds more clever than it really is! 😄

The cheap DIY version is: Practice arpeggios up and down the neck: Maj7, Min7, Aug7, Dim7 (in all keys) Practice them in 1st 2nd and 3rd inversions, always beginning on the lowest note available of the particular chord. Do that for 30mins a day and soon you will amaze yourself. You're welcome! 😊
