Lockdown Albums - What do you recommend?
miles'tone replied to Stub Mandrel's topic in General Discussion
Great to hear that you've managed to stay creative, I'll go for a listen now. I'm always up for checking out what my fellow tribespersons are up to. 👍 -
What are you listening to right now?

Aww, the video link doesn't work anymore.. looks like I'll have to buy it. Great ruse Bilbo! 😄 Congratulations on finally getting there 👍

I just love listening to people who can sing.

A mate sent me this on Facebook and it blew me away! I had no idea she could sing so well and effortlessly. Massive pipes! No, José! 😂 It was a covers fundraiser a few days ago. -

I still can't listen to her. Whenever I hear her voice around now it just makes me feel gutted. She hadn't even begun to peak as an artist. -
Rapper battles - YES! Bassist battles - I'd rather drink poison.

This helps too. Cheers @devinebass 👍 -
Up for a new home is my 2003 Stingray in rare translucent gold with matching headstock. I bought this beauty over the summer from a chap who previously was an EB dealer and this bass was from his own collection. It's like new. I think I might be the only person who has played it. Light home use only at that! There are some signs of use on the tort pickguard, as to be expected, but I will also throw in a mirror guard and a brand new never fitted clear plexi pickguard which I never got around to fitting. This Stingray was going to be a keeper but it didn't take me long to finally realise that I should have held off for the right Stingray 5. I now have the right Stingray 5 on it's way to me so I have to pass this stunner on. It comes in a Musicman hardcase (I don't know if it's the original case for the bass sorry) which I will get photos of later - it's still in the attic. Oh, it comes set up with a new set of light GHS Brite Flats which sound fabulous. Great even tension and volume response across all strings. I know I could sit this one out for a better price but with the 5 string now incoming I'll be happy just to get my money back on this one. *Sold*

Possibly. Probably. I'm just not into the looks of G&L basses. A bass needs to invite you to play it every time you see it. Important to me anyway. I think the real answer is to be patient, sit out the current situation and wait until I can try any contenders out in person. Otherwise I can see this ending in expensive regrets! There's more important things to worry about at the moment really.

Thanks. I have had a few fivers in my time and I've realised that I need that low B more than I don't. I bought a corking Stingray 4 string over the summer which I'm loving but I realise now that I should have held off for the right Stingray 5. Musically speaking I'm just playing at home and recording, in no particular style. Could be anything, whatever comes out! The Lakland Skyline 55-02 ticks many boxes for me but I'm unsure of the extra scale length and obviously I can't go to get a feel for one (or anything else) anywhere for the foreseeable, so it will be sight unseen which I'm loathed to do but that's the way it is right now. Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys they are most appreciated and I am googling every one to see. 👍 Life was so much simpler when it only involved a P bass! 😄

I need some ideas guys. I'm looking to get back into fivers again, got a grand that won't be around long if I don't act soon. I want one that records well, (as that's all that's happening anyway 😉) is versatile and has a great B string. It will probably end up being my only electric bass so I must choose wisely! New or used doesn't matter btw. I'm thinking Stingray 5 but what else? What would you do? GO!..

I guess I'm not the only one who has no musical instrument shops to go to at the moment then. Strange days.. -
I drove all the way to Slough once to buy a Rickenbacker. I realised only too late that it was in fact a Dog as *uck. 🤦🏼♂️

Anyone here got one or played one? Are they as good as they look? I see the black ones have mahogany bodies, wonder if they're using the cheaper therefore lighter mahogany varieties? I get that they're the same price as a used regular American SR5 but there doesn't seem to be that much difference these days. They do look very well made. I would love to go and try one out but can't due the present County lockdown (and incoming full Welsh lockdown).

I bought a mint s/h Stingray over the summer which cost me a grand, exactly double what I myself sold one for in the noughties. But today my new one feels worth every penny. 🤷🏼♂️

Sims custom offer them too. -
Ahh.. River, River, River... We really did lose one of the greats there. He achieved so much and yet had really only just begun. He was so into his guitar too. Took it everywhere and 3 years on from this he was really good with his own sound going on. According to Flea himself I think it was. His beliefs and politics were years ahead of the curve and strong for someone so young too. Veganism and animal rights etc.. I believe he would have made great art and done great things with his position to influence.. I'm the same age as him and still sore about it all as you can tell. What a waste.

I've mentioned here more than a few times over the years how much I regretted selling my 1986 'Just-Ernie Ball' Stingray. Great memories of good bands and gigs we played together. My yoof, basically. Kicked myself on and off for years about that. Picked up a 2003 'Ray this year which is so much better though. The 86 had the most beautiful flame to the neck but it needed constant adjusting. Really fussy about temperature changes. The '03 has no figuring to the neck whatsoever but is solid as a rock (go figure 😉). The 6 bolt neck and wheelie truss rod adjuster are a revelation. Plus I prefer the 3 band to my old 2. Found the right tool for the job finally once I let go of all that sentimentally. Bought it online so a lucky score thankfully!
