  1. Probably in the same spot if you count from the 20th fret 😉
  2. Awesome. That's totally my bag right there! ✊😎
  3. I went to music school and can learn a tune/song/piece from sheet music, although I can't sight read as I just didn't keep it up after I finished school. All this learned knowledge came in handy exactly once when I depped for a well paying jazz band on upright for a few gigs about 20 years ago (even then it was mostly chord charts). I'm currently reading The Music Lesson by Victor Wooten which basically throws all of that out of the window and is a happy revelation to me! (It's definitely a 'Marmite' read though I suspect) I have no desire (anymore) to be a working musician, or even gig. I now just enjoy playing for the simple joy of it at home or improv jams with friends. The best therapy from life there is! I'm not saying either way is best, both are valid, but personally I'm more down with Victor's way now. It suits my personality, and time in life I suppose, much better. Got melodies coming out of my ar$e now anyway! Old dude out.
  4. Sorry, I didn't mean to derail the thunder there. I'm a total geek and can't help it. I'm sure I'd be finding religion too if I'd had a go of those beautys! Btw, a '65 P is the holiest of holys for me. My two fave P bassers both play '65s - Scott Thunes of Zappa infamy and Paz Lenchantin of The Entrance Band (now with Pixies). Lucky chap there who has not one, but TWO! Fair do's.
  5. No it was spaghetti logo until '64, transition logo 65-67 then massive TV logo 68-70something. Funny you should mention my eyes...can't see sh!t now as I've just lost my glasses at the swimming pool!🤦‍♂️
  6. Nice! (although they both appear to be sporting the '65 - '67 transition decals from where I'm sitting 🕵‍♂️)
  7. Thanks Dad! 😊 Looking forward to hearing what's been going on in my absence 👍
  8. Is this still a thing, or did it die a death? I haven't been on here regularly for a while and now I finally have a means to digitally record (thought I'd give the 21st century a go after all 😄). I used to like listening to all the entries way back and it would be nice to join in. Or am I about 3 years too late?
  9. 😂 There does seem to be a link between Ashdown owners and Basil Fawlty.
  10. I bet the OP is an amazing player by now! 😆
  11. I don't gig anymore and I enjoy playing music much more now because of this. Home recording and jams with friends is all I need to get my fix. Gigging cost me more money than I earned from it, taking into consideration outlays vs income. I don't miss having to deal with unreliable people at every hurdle just to play to drunk people (I don't drink). Each to their own of course!
  12. Congrats she's a beaut 🙂
  13. See what you mean but we would have done it outside of ebay/reverb as a private sale.
  14. Your absolutely right. He did seem like a nice person via the messages and also because he offered to deliver it to my house personally (I live close enough for that to be doable for him I think). Cash on delivery too which I found reassuring - no potential online payment skullduggery.
  15. I spoke to him too. Said he'd deliver it for £6500. Upon re-examining the photos I wasn't happy about the E and A strings not lining up between the pickuppole pieces (horribly so in fact), and I'm not convinced there's enough wiggle room of the neck to be had (looking at the fret markers and spaces between the outer strings and edge of the neck) nor via the threaded saddles. Hope that makes sense! Decided I was out anyway...
  16. I've had a student laminate upright for over 20 years and really want a decent upgrade. I play only pizz, use guts and mostly acoustic (unamplified) jazz/roots. I don't want fully carved, hybrid a possibility. Volume and robustness essential. The budget is 2 grand, what would you go for and where would you look? Go!
  17. Yup. Californication album is top of the tone crop for me. Interestingly, I saw a vid on YouTube with a pickup comparison between a LP Legacy and stock Fender humbucker (using a flea active jazz) and the Fender pickup sounded best to me in that bass. Makes me think that the Modulus Flea/FU comes together as more than the sum of it's parts. Thanks as always Bart Funk Bass 👊
  18. Like you're being mugged by a pirate wielding a moist plank.
  19. Dave G has said in the past that this lineup of the Foo Fighters is the last lineup of the Foo Fighters. I have a gut feeling that he will be a man of his word in that regard.
  20. Why not just buy a lighter body for the Jazz you have and like already? It would be a heck of a lot cheaper and less of a headache than hitting the road trying to find a suitable replacement.
  21. Yes I think you're right actually, sounds like a mix of both with the passive Jazz used the most. Could be all passive Jazz mixed differently track to track? Maybe the active jazz is just for live shows? 🤷‍♂️ I did like the album a bit more on hearing it again though. That's probably me hearing it for what it actually is rather than hearing it against what I wanted it to be if I'm honest.
  22. Maybe...I'll pay more attention next listen. Says a lot that it didn't entirely grab my attention the first time! 😄
  23. It sounds to me like he's using his active jazz sig bass. Quite like the tone myself..
  24. It's good to hear 4 old friends jamming and having fun. I'm happy for them. That's about it though for me, it didn't get me excited as I was hoping. That's my job now anyway...
  25. I don't tell people I'm a bass player anymore. It's my own dirty little secret.
