*EDIT* My wife has kindly given my head a wobble for me, reiterating how far overdrawn we both are, Christmas is coming, we have 2 kids, and all that jazz! Ok, it's out of my hands now which makes it easier... Ignore this 👇 I'm withdrawing this for now. I do need the money but I know deep down that in the long run, I will find it very difficult replace. I may put it up again at some point but right now I'm keener to not live with any regrets! Thanks for the interest and cools comments guys 👊👊 -
Here's my 1991 Stingray 5 in natural finish, rosewood fingerboard and birdseye maple neck. All original, with alnico pickup. This bass is incredible. Killer B string. It's a lightweight as far as Stingray 5s go, weighing in at 9.3lbs (me doing the with/without thing on the digi bathroom scales) and balances perfectly on the strap. It is genuinely 'road worn' as you will see from the photos. I took this as a good omen because to me this shows that it's been played a lot due to it being a bloody good one. It is. An excellent (and early) example. It has those friendly feels of an old seasoned bass. Really easy to play. Everything works as it should, the neck is rock solid, feels amazing and is unblemished. Set up is perfect, no fret buzz. I've owned it for about a year and a half now, aiming to use it as it was intended when things begin to pick up again. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to play in bands or even jams for the foreseeable due to family commitments and I'm not rich enough to justify seeing a grand just hanging on the wall. Hopefully it will find a good home here with someone. I'm asking for £1050 which is what I paid for it. Local pickup (Cardiff) preferred although I am prepared to ship it at the buyer's expense. Feel free to come over and try it out if you're near me, biccys and brew provided! I think I've covered everything but if you have any questions, fire away! *I think the hardcase is original but not entirely sure. It's a perfect fit anyway, though I don't have keys for it. Thanks for looking.

Totally understand as I felt exactly the same as you after part 1. They were in the doldrums in the beginning for sure. However, there is a dynamic/story arc to the whole documentary that is well worth sticking around for. 😉

I kept wondering what they were tuning up to...did they have tuner pedals in those days? Maybe all those "gimme an E" moments were left out by PJ 😄

I know, the cheek of it! I was a huge Smiths fan as an 80s teenager but it it was only years later that I discovered how The Smiths wrote most of their music - Marr, Rourke and Joyce created and demoed the music to the songs (written by Marr) as instrumentals, then gave a cassette of it to Morrissey who would go away and write the lyrics and his melodies in isolation. If anything, he was actually the most replaceable part! 😄

Was there any response from ESP/LTD? I'd love to know any further details to this tale as I'm interested in maybe getting one..

Epiphone Embassy could be what you're looking for as they actually have the Thunderbird humbuckers. They are long scale but feel like a medium scale due to the bridge being located right at the bottom of the body which means the nut feels less far away if that makes sense.. They also have a wider neck than a Thunderbird as you like. Lightweight too. Worth a look I reckon!

Can't comment as yet but I have a set of EB Group flats that I'm putting on my SR5 this weekend. I felt they'd be a safe bet because, after trying all the strings I like best on Fenders, I've found EB rounds work best on my Stingrays 🤷 I'll let you know how I get on...

Thanks, I didn't know that. I do know that the bass I'm looking at here isn't made in Germany like their top end instruments. As long as the bass is good and made well I don't suppose it matters where it's made. Looks good anyway.

Always try to play with people who are better than you, it's the greatest way to learn. - top tip from Jaco Pastorius (Paraphrased by me because my memory is crap 😊)

Does anyone have any experience with GEWA basses? I keep being drawn back to look at this hybrid. Made in Asia (China?) I believe.. Can't really find any in depth knowledge about them so far. What do you think? https://gewastrings.com/product/23674/gewa-double-bass-premium-line-semi-solid-model.html
