Passive covered Precision pickups?
miles'tone replied to fretmeister's topic in Accessories and Misc
Just for future reference, I've solved this problem in the past by putting some bluetack under the covers at each of it's corners, between the cover and the pickup. Raise the height of the cover until it's flush with the top of the pole pieces. Then raise or lower the pickup to taste. Job's a good 'un π -
Totally. An asymmetrical large 2+2 matching headstock that mirrors the curves of the body would have been MUCH better (and a B width neck works better for me π). It looks like a spaceship but not a retro spaceship so the 50s Fender headstock just doesn't work at all. In fact it could never work on anything other than a P, J or trad shortie as the look of those basses are so ingrained within the minds of generations of musicians, that it can only look wrong on anything else. The Dimensions were great and look what happened! Fender could easily move away from that trademark headstock on certain models. Their name is established (understatement of the century π) and if the bass is good it will sell itself. Be braver Fender! Edit: and stop it with the bloody ice lolly colours please.

For me it would be the Ibanez to keep as a player, the Aria to enjoy and probably turn a profit on in a couple of years. Doubt you'd be disappointed with either though.

Anyone else addicted to a good vamp?

I absolutely love playing along with this one, it's like a meditation once you get inside that signature riff and keep it tight. -
Quick update.. I phoned Bass Direct just now to chase up the replacement strings that they were going to send a week ago because of the above issue, as I still haven't received them. They only just posted them out today so they say (or did they forget? π€). 60 quids worth! Never buying from them again anyway.

The pickups are Hi-A which became Bartolini if I remember correctly. Paul Jackson is THE MAN.

Has anyone bought a bass on a whim just cos of its looks?

Yep. My new bass for life for now βΊ It looked as worn out as I am and it was love at first sight. -

I saw a bassist use one of these with the French artist Camille a few years ago. It sounded amazing! -
Short answer: we had kids. It's been 11 years since my last full time band (which turned into 11 feverish years of buying and selling basses that I haven't really needed on here π) My two boys are learning guitar and piano so I'm now in the house band. No load-ins or travelling and rehearsals are free... Never had it so good! My wife is a tough crowd though. She's not too big on free jazz π

I really enjoyed listening to all the entries this month, well done everyone! It's always amazing to hear how many different ideas can be gleaned from a single photo π

I forgot to mention that I ordered a gig bag from them about a week after the strings which did arrive ok. Initially I was told that I hadn't received the strings because they weren't in stock. I mentioned that they are listed as in stock on the website. "Are they? Let me check.....you're right, they have come in. Have you checked inside the gigbag? Sometimes we put them in there." Checked inside said gigbag, not in there. "Ah, they were sent to your old address yada yada.." "But you sent my gigbag to my actual address ok." "That's because it was sent by courier." π€·ββοΈ

I just ordered some yesterday and on the scroll down menu they are actually Β£60... Well, I originally ordered them 15 days ago and when I chased them up yesterday due to not having received them, I discovered that they'd posted them to someone I've never heard of in North Wales! (I live in South Wales). "They were sent to your old address" "I've lived here for 20 years." "Oh...." Bass direct... slack as fΓΌck. They don't even send a shipping notification so you know that your purchase 'might' be on it's way. "Can I make a suggestion? Would you mind sending out a shipping notification etc..." "I'm not sure how the logistics with that would work out" "Everyone else who sells things on the Internet seem to manage alright." "Oh... fair point" π

When is it time to stop buying more basses?
miles'tone replied to molan's topic in General Discussion
My answer: when I realised that the searching for and acquisition of the next new bass was more of a buzz than owning it. -

I didn't grow up in a house with music because my parents never played any. I do remember the first time that music got me though. My friend's older sister was blasting The Police in her room, and eventually gave me her tape because I nagged her so much to play them every time I would visit! I was 8. After that it was TOTP, then the music rags in my teens, record shops, followed by friend's tapes of the greats of the 60s and 70s while out getting stoned in cars. Later on, Jazz found me when I had my guard down π
