  1. I need some ideas guys. I'm looking to get back into fivers again, got a grand that won't be around long if I don't act soon. I want one that records well, (as that's all that's happening anyway 😉) is versatile and has a great B string. It will probably end up being my only electric bass so I must choose wisely! New or used doesn't matter btw. I'm thinking Stingray 5 but what else? What would you do? GO!..
  2. I guess I'm not the only one who has no musical instrument shops to go to at the moment then. Strange days..
  3. I drove all the way to Slough once to buy a Rickenbacker. I realised only too late that it was in fact a Dog as *uck. 🤦🏼‍♂️
  4. Anyone here got one or played one? Are they as good as they look? I see the black ones have mahogany bodies, wonder if they're using the cheaper therefore lighter mahogany varieties? I get that they're the same price as a used regular American SR5 but there doesn't seem to be that much difference these days. They do look very well made. I would love to go and try one out but can't due the present County lockdown (and incoming full Welsh lockdown).
  5. I bought a mint s/h Stingray over the summer which cost me a grand, exactly double what I myself sold one for in the noughties. But today my new one feels worth every penny. 🤷🏼‍♂️

  7. Sims custom offer them too.
  8. Ahh.. River, River, River... We really did lose one of the greats there. He achieved so much and yet had really only just begun. He was so into his guitar too. Took it everywhere and 3 years on from this he was really good with his own sound going on. According to Flea himself I think it was. His beliefs and politics were years ahead of the curve and strong for someone so young too. Veganism and animal rights etc.. I believe he would have made great art and done great things with his position to influence.. I'm the same age as him and still sore about it all as you can tell. What a waste.
  9. Too right!
  10. I've mentioned here more than a few times over the years how much I regretted selling my 1986 'Just-Ernie Ball' Stingray. Great memories of good bands and gigs we played together. My yoof, basically. Kicked myself on and off for years about that. Picked up a 2003 'Ray this year which is so much better though. The 86 had the most beautiful flame to the neck but it needed constant adjusting. Really fussy about temperature changes. The '03 has no figuring to the neck whatsoever but is solid as a rock (go figure 😉). The 6 bolt neck and wheelie truss rod adjuster are a revelation. Plus I prefer the 3 band to my old 2. Found the right tool for the job finally once I let go of all that sentimentally. Bought it online so a lucky score thankfully!

  12. Hi there. Does this particular Modulus have a truss rod?

  15. 👍 When I said Bass Players, I meant Bass Players are underated. 😉

  18. Congratulations! That ticks all the Stingray boxes for me! 👍
  19. Great explanation, thanks. The middle pickup does spoil it. Kind of looks like I've drawn a silly nose on it 😆 Series switch is a really good idea. I had imagined wiring the bridge and middle pups in series to one volume and leaving the neck pup as is. But it is what it is and should be enjoyed for just that eh? I've always wanted one since I saw Mani use one with The Stone Roses 1st time around. His sound on that debut album using a 4005 is sublime. He used it on Fools Gold as well to great funky effect.
  20. Cheers @Maude for all the details there! 👍 Definitely food for thought. I hadn't noticed how close the strings usually are to the edge of the fingerboard on these so thanks for bringing that to my attention. Great fix too! I think the main thing that concerns me is not having a pickup in my sweet spots (P or Stingray placement) but I realise that it would probably spoil the beauty of the instrument. Which kind of sounds vain but the looks is what draws me too them. I did a crude mock up of adding a 3rd pickup in the middle but I'm not so sure! What do you think?
  21. Great thread! Also it is indeed a very beautiful bass. I'm really considering one for myself and it's reassuring to read that it was your number one for a year's worth of gigs. But I'm curious - you mention that you weren't so keen on how it plays. Do you mean how it sounds with the pickups at both extremities? The lack of a thumb anchor? Is it hard physically to play? Apologies for all the questions, it's just that I've never seen a 4005 in real life, never mind play one! Thanks.

  25. Leave it as it is. Your history is on there, as is a bit of Natasha Schneider's.
