  1. Those electronics are a DIY effort. That's stripboard or veroboard (depending who you talk to!). It's a DIY alternative to a proper PCB. Tin foil cavity shielding. If it weren't for the stamped numbers on the headstock I would have said it's a homebrew effort.
  2. Weren't we all! Ashdown flatly refuse to drop the gimmicky VU to save real-estate. What meer mortals really want is this:
  3. If you get the chance try out an Orange Terror Bass. It's a one trick pony, but the one trick matched what I was getting from my Ashdown ABM perfectly. Pairs very nicely with the Barefaced Two10 too!
  4. Really wish I was in a position to take this off you @ped. Best bass I've ever played was the black Skarbee Celinder that used to be featured at the top of these pages.
  5. Given that it's Jon Stockman's signature pedal I don't think it was designed for flats! I can't stand the BxK/Vintage Darkglass pedals, but REALLY like the Alpha Omega which I've owned in every guise, including the amp.
  6. I made a couple of offers on it that time, but the guy wasn't for budging on his asking price, which was ASTRONOMICAL given what I paid to have it made in the first place and especially considering what I sold it for. Maybe not THAT high considering what they're going for now though!
  7. Great sounding pedal, especially in combination with an octave and envelope filter.
  8. Microsynth I think, or a combination of octave, fuzz and envelope to produce the same effect. Great little mashup that...

    Peak Wal?

Given your former username Gareth this comes as no surprise!

    Peak Wal?

The Embassy had a wall of Wals... But that was a long time ago...
  11. Have a look at the Ashdown James Lomenzo Hyperdrive. Doesn't do quite what you're looking for as it only effects the midrange but check this out and see if it sounds the part:

The PCB of the J-Lo is pretty sizeable so doesn't lend itself to being rehoused
  13. https://bassbros.co.uk/product/2018-spector-euro5-lx-2/ Hubba, hubba…
  14. Thanks Paul... It has me rethinking everything I know about basses. Could lead to some drastic changes around here!!! If only Forte 5's were still a thing...
  15. Deary me I must have had way more time on my hands in 2018...
  16. I've recently bought this lovely Euro 5 from Lee. I don't know why it's taken me so long to won a Spector, but it wasn't for the want of trying! Really impressed with it. Ergonomically it's my most comfortable bass by quite some distance. There's a BIG downsizing of equipment coming one of these days, but this Spector is certainly safe!
  17. If there was any chance of this being shipped I'd take your arm off for it... Miss my Tech Soundsystems 4x12 something shocking...
  18. Bound to attract a few folks to Laney gear having a big name like NE attached to it!
  19. Buy a used Zoom B1Four as a start...
  20. "Congratulations! You've increased your rank to Veteran!"... As if I didn't feel old enough!!!

You'll know you're old when the pages start appearing in

      a very very large font

and you get messages telling you that it's a bit parky outside.

  21. The first thing that strikes me about your post is that none of these basses will feel ANYTHING close to the Kingston Heir 5 you miss. The Heir is a big bass - 35" scale and 19mm spacing at the bridge. Ergonomically these are all in a different ballpark so bear that in mind. Why not another MTD as a matter of interest? They're in the same price bracket...
