I use a MB & Barefaced super 12 T rig , but I also have a 3K PA with active subs etc I was considering just having something like a MB micro combo & DI from it . mainly because I hate carrying gear around & some of the pubs we play in are very cramped . We have electric drums so I don't have to compete with anyone sound wise . Does anyone else do this ?
My old cover band did exactly this. The e-drums are the key (and an understanding guitarist i.e. no half stacks, or ideally no valve amps of any description - our guitarist used a floor pod). Wouldn't attempt it otherwise or you'd need some seriously good monitoring. With e-drums I found I could get away with a Line6 Studio 110 combo DId and a little powered wedge monitor.
This is my current mini board, of clones Optical compressor > Pear OC-7 (octave) > SFT type overdrive > Mu-Tron Micro V filter > 'Prunes & Custard'
What's the micro mutron like for bass? Was never able to find any clips for it, other than for guitar...

Surely it must be possible to source string sets with tensions that match standard tuning while holding the tuning you require? Doesn't Circle K do this sort of thing?

Not a stingray fan, but that looks mighty fine!

That fretboard overhang (not at the 21st fret - I mean looking at the nut with the board wider than the neck!) reminds me of a 70s Fender jazz I played in Sound Control Glasgow a few years back. Some muppet had removed the binding and sanded the channel left behind (although only partially) so the neck was wider than the fingerboard. Worst dogs dinner of a bass I've ever layed hands on by a country mile. At least this has more chance of being salvageable! If it were me I'd replace the board altogether. Probably be a better job than defretting, slimming the board to the neck and refretting it again.
Lakland BG5 if you can find one over here, great basses! (Skyline as well)
19mm string spacing or I'd have tried to hock mine on this thread already! Cracking basses!

Damping the bass boom in a practice room

Might sound daft (and my memory may be messing with me here) but I seem to remember reading a studio SOS in the SOS mag where a sofa propped up on its end in a corner acted as a pretty effective bass trap... -
Looks in great condition for a 32 year old bass... http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=221407607238&globalID=EBAY-GB

A work colleague has been offered a defretted Yamaha BB5000A and asked me what I thought it might be worth. Personally I haven't a clue! It's in VERY good condition going by the one picture I've seen. Obviously the defret may effect the value. Anyone have any ideas? From a quick Google search values vary wildly...
Can't go wrongwith a 77 Aria Pro II -- an SB1000, 900, or 700. Great basses, and can be had for decent prices. I played an SB700 for years til it was stolen.
From what I can see there's a fairly fundamental flaw in that plan... They weren't introduced until '78, otherwise they'd be fairly high on my list.
Zac brown is great! He is really pushing a band on his record label who I actually prefer: Blackberry Smoke. Their whole live show. 'Live at Georgia theatre' is on YouTube. Check it out, I think you'll like it
Thanks for the pointer! Off to YouTube I go...

I've owned most of the basses I once coveted (Wal, Warwick, Lakland, Dingwall)... And sold them. The only ones I still want (60's Fenders mostly) are financially out of reach for the time being. I like the idea of a YOB bass so that's my next planned purchase. Liking the look of Yamaha and Kramer so far from what folk have suggested. Now if I could find a '77 BB1200, or SB1200 (don't think I've EVER seen one of those for sale) I'd be a happy camper. There are quite a few Kramers about it would seem, but they wouldn't all float my boat!

Yeah stick to the smaller stuff nowadays myself - did go to o2 Dublin a few weeks back and was BLOWN AWAY by Zac Brown... Stevie Wonder in the same venue a few years previous was a disappointment so it may be the act as much as the venue...
Our singer seems to have got it in her head
There's your problem right there.... Bloody singers... It's highly unlikely that bass would cause this even if the PA was cranked and, as already mentioned, the speakers would complain first.
The redesign is mostly because I think the distortion of the push-pull triode when overdriven is a bit harsh and sudden. I want to try how a real power tube sounds at the output. Maybe we should move this discussion to some other thread, I'm starting to feel a bit like a hi-jacker...
Build Diaries forum one below this one? Please keep us posted!
Keep this coming folks, a nice list of basses for me to avoid - I need room for my sausage fingers to blunder their way around the strings.
Same here - 19mm all the way! I find Ibanez 5 string spacings unplayably tight (except on the BTB series) so they might be worth a look.
