4.
Pulling the lead out is cheaper.
and makes a nice bang!!
 5.
I think the new strings are a touch heavier - it'd been so long since it'd been restrung I had no idea what gauge was on previously, otherwise I'd have rebought the same. Now I think about it - heavier strings would have a higher tension, putting more relief in to the neck and thus making the truss rod need a tighten. Cheers guys
when you change strings..even the same gauges same make...recheck all the settings bow...your usual action..and pup settings etc it lends an air of completion to the exercise clacking can be associated with differing cores as well...same gauge..different wraps and core...more flexible etc worth going through the checklist though

 8.
Folks, I have been offered my dream bass, a lovely custom Wal from a decent chap on here. I am really after a fretless Wal and due to their rarity and vastly inflated prices as new (£5k!) I was wondering about getting a decent pro Luthier to de-fret the neck and turn it into a lined fretless possibly even getting Electric wood to do it. Am I mad? should I just keep waiting for a fretless? am I stealing a decent fretted from the world? Thoughts? Steve.
you are putting too much emphasis on labels and badging if you get it done correctly by joe bloggs...who's to know it wasnt electric wood... got to be real, here
 9.
The varitone is a gibson thing, it is a series of caps on a switch, thus giving different tones in different positions. Google it, it is a neat idea. Just wondering what it is like in a P Bass...
i dont use tone at all ...use the bddi or the preamp eq so i am not arsing my way out of this comforable seat

 13.
Howdy! I was thinking on and off to myself wether it's time to learn another instrument. The drawback is that I live in a 1st flr maisonnette. This means that, wind instruments such as trumpets ,clarinets are out. I like the look of those electronic drums( rubber?) ,but I'm not sure if that'll work. Even the triangle wouldn't work Any ideas??
a sitar
 14. its worth reading bass clef classical or not as for tricky treble exercises...cant see the justification..unless you take up oboe

 19. changing tone for me is changing plucking hand position along with dynamic and rhythm change near the neck for quieter slow pieces, softer attack and sustained notes near the bridge for noiser faster licks, more attack and stacatto notes
 20.
Royal Mail Special Delivery next day has an insurance limit of £2500 (and no hidden restrictions on musical instruments that I can find - of course they may be very well hidden ....)
need to look into that in future...with the recent experience with UPS i dont think royal fail could do worse... cheers
 21.
My Squire VM Jazz was about 2mm at the 12th, I prefer it lower though.
thats a cool set up...i might try that...i like low action if the string whip will allow
 22.
I really didn't fancy cutting my allen key. So I ordered one from Allparts. It took a month to get here (with Christmas and New Year in betweeen) but it arrived the other day. A quick quarter turn and it was done. For anyone finding this thread at a later date, I can confirm that the 8mm one fits.
Ta Dah!
 23. radio frequencies? or multiple earth hum...but you say static check all earths and especially the bridge...sort of inch by thick blitz on anything soldered to earth then make sure the strings are earthing on the saddles...meter required
 24. just make sure you get your saddles on the correct scale length even if you need to use totally new holes
