There's no problem at all, provided you're not pushing the iron's tip into the coils in any way.
be as fast as you can to avoid the heat going further into the bobbin i had to do this on a rickenbacker neck pup..not the toaster...and i went very slow and low powered...its just a dab you need if you want to avoid heat there are electrically conductive glues you can get... 2.
Ok so i was trying to do my own little setup on my bass and noticed that the height screws on one of the saddles on my Schaller 3D-4 bridge wont move, so i cant change the string height of the A string. I have a allen key which came with my 5 string version of the bridge and tried a bunch of other allen keys too and no luck. What are my options? Is there a way to force them out then hopefully they can thread through again. Just rather not spend the 40+ quid to replace a full bridge.
no luck...they wont fit? i have used the end of a file...the part which goes into a handle...the tang...and got that to move a screw.... WD40 has been mentioned if you do get it out give the threads a brush with a suede brush to clean out the bottoms of the vee's

 4. i never thought series on jazz was really what jazz was all about..clean middly tone it seems to be more effective on a closely spaced humbucker set up like the musicman..and is standard on the SR5...at least the one i had i tried it on my jazz layout using barts but found the resulting tone too muddy... for punch i think the P at the original position is best for that...and then use the eq

 6.
Just a thought....nice deep Chic low tone but a nice bright G string for funky pops? .....there maybe a very obvious reason why this isn't done though
dont know..i suggested this to a string supplier once and they said it wasnt a good idea may be due to something like output etc worth a try...but as mentioned...TI know how to turn out the best flats in the world...and they sustain and bend as well

 11.
Hi gang, my Simon Harper 5 string active bass has developed a fault where on fitting a new 9v pre-amp battery it drains to the point of being completely dead after a period of about 7 days! I tried the obvious solution of fitting a new output jack, but to no avail. The local music shop says it needs a new pre-amp, but it sounds great and plays fine apart from the battery draining - any ideas?
fit a switch....this however wont cure any draining circuitry which is causing the fault
 12.
Yes I own one and was about to set it up but there are rules for neck relief depending on neck rad. Phil
what are the rules concerning...setting the bow etc? i just set it
 13.
Ello all, Anyone know the radius of the neck on a Tanglewood Rebel 4K??? Phil
do you have one handy? you can do some measurements and calculate it pretty close
 14. on my combo there are two inputs...passive and active...the passive has twice the gain as for the active most passive and active work ok on the passive input jack..
 15. a bass neck is not loaded as a normal column would be...in direct compression the tension from the strings is eccentric to the neutral axis and induces bending and out of balance tension and compression in the extreme fibres...if you include the fingerboard as an integral component..a sort of composite beam with direct end compression as well the truss rod does what it can to relieve tension but its position is not always at the same relative distance to the neutral axis so there must be instability somewhere in the system i think the design shape and amount of material does keep stresses in the wooden part of the neck low...but being wood it has differing qualities and response to compressive and tensile loading. not really a structural member in the true design sense...compromises and variations must occur shorter necks wont tend to be so affected by buckling criteria
 16. need to use some way to plug the J hole but wait batman what if..... nahh...never make sure what you do could be reversible..just in case
 17. no old chap...put the bpom back on or forget the exercise personally i would keep the high mass etc and stop looking in the mirror at your bass
 18. variations in tempi go hand in hand with dynamics you mentioned classical music this is the land of varying tempi and definately well noted dynamics we usually wind down a song at a slower speed...over a few bars but try to keep the same tempo going throughout the most common failing is speeding up
 19.
Parcel to go - type it into doogle and hey presto - really helpful people, I just sent a microphone and some other bits to Ireland.
i use them as well...they do good dhl deals...and tracking is good... good luck
 20. i guess you want to let people know in a pecking order if there is one if not all together and if you cant then get the information to the others before its passed on 2nd hand we all leave something sometime...there is no 'good' way but do what you feel is fair as if it was someone leaving your band...how would you like to be told dont leave grey smoke behind...just sunny goodbyes
 21.
My missus has detected my new bass acquisition - I should be more careful!!!!
i have invented so many stories about basses coming into the house...usually i do sell the one it replaces right away its in the art of marriage..
