2.
I suggest you contact the supplier. If the problem is in the cable core, the only way to fix it is change the cable.
a quick swap should settle the issue..bound to be some bad ones get through you dont bend it a lot do you when you curl up the cable
 3.
Hi, wonder if anyone can help, I bought a second hand squire fretless vm jazz, it needed a little bit of attention including new strings and the neck relief sorting. Anyhow as I was to be changing the strings i thought I would add a new bridge. I have now fitted a Gotoch 201 B4 bridge and new set of Exilir strings. I have set the bass up the best I can and it plays not to bad but, the action is a little high at just over 3mm at 12th fretline, the releif is about 0.5mm at the 8th fretline but the truss rod nut is fairly loose AND the action wont adjust any lower as the saddles on the bridge are as low as they will go, even though the Gotoch bridge is a nice bridge i'm tempted to re-fit the standard cheap bridge, is there something i'm missing, any suggestions appreciated.
i have fitted a 'gotoh' type bridge and found that i live with it as the bow is flattish and the action at fret 12 is 3mm which is ok for me i dont really fancy shimming necks...and if it really were a problem i would put the old bridge back on..the bent piece of tin type on my yamaha 275J
 4.
Just wondering how you guys do it? I've found mic-ing up the cab sounds 'rounder' but unfortunately a bit noisier (hiss & hum) but it's a big faff to do at home - and you have to have a good mic. DI-ing is easier (you just plug it in) but on close listening it can sound dry, quacky, sterile and thin in the mids. Any thoughts?
i used a mic...got some air in the recording..ambience etc...it was a fender P with rw and came over just like an urb
I thought I might have escaped the matter, but it seems I really must get myself a double bass. I got close last year and managed to resist, but sometimes these things just keep niggling at you until you cave in. Anyhow, I now realise that the biggest obstacle to overcome here is whether I'll be able to fit a 3/4 size bass into my dear little Ford KA (yes, my wife did choose it, as you ask!). I've searched around, and it seems to be the case that any small car will, with the right technique, absorb a bass one way or the other, but I couldn't find any specific mention of the KA. Does anyone here get to gigs in such a chariot? Thanks, Andy
might have to remove the passengers seat in the front...but i guess it could be done...
 6.
is 'brown' like 'beige' but more interestin',or just darker ?
slightly darker but beige would be good too...or craptone
 7. stringing E to C without tension on the truss rod...the neck should be happy then start afresh with the tension from my limited time with a fretless i found a high action was better so didnt really have bow to consider too much..one way or the other good luck... i think lined fretless is the way to go
 8.
Well, so far in my limited time of owning a bass I have heard/read the following descriptions, there should be some sort of EEC STD glossery in no particular order:- mellow rich soft hard edged full empty hollow harsh cold warm muddy clean bright crisp rounded "with a cool top end twang" fat thin funky jazzy classic 50's/60's/70's/80's sound....not seen a 90's yet... velvety vintage modern balmy smooth I even saw 'crunchy' for an Orange bass amp sound.... It can't be the easy trying to describe a sound by words but it's a shame someone like a wordsmith like Matt Johnson doesn't write reviews, I mean we would all know what this means "the distant noise of some drunken jazz band".....but then we would like to what the rig the bass played thru
my input is brown
 9.
I was watching Jools Holland last night and noticed that the dude out of Kasabian was using a capo on his bass. I've never seen that before. Is this now acceptable in leu of mad tunings or has he just gone crazy??
this is what i think...they guy knows a tune in terms of neck position....they want to go up a tone or semitone so capo and play the tune as normal... its easier when you think of it than moving up the neck to do the transposition

 12.
well, you right Mr Hercule, I had swapped strings to new Rotos, then back to OE's and it started then, no idea why though?...put my Ernie flats on and no more hiss! ...my Yammy OE's have flats worn into them where they touch the frets I think they be worn worn out
the term OE escapes me but elixir or any coated string wont earth through the saddles...and this coud mean the strings are introducing radio frequencies via the air rather than being earthed out i has never happened to me though
 13.
Hey, I've just managed to break two Rotosound Swing .45 strings in two weeks (it is the correct gauge!), and I think I've found the issue. I was looking at the saddle, and it appears that there is a trough, patterned like the string, is cut into the groove in the saddle. It may be slightly sharp, but it's hard to tell. Could this be what is causing the string breakages....? And is the solution just to get a new saddle...or splash out on a Badass or a Hipshot (or any nice bridge...suggestions welcome!) to spruce up my Squier (she gets used ALOT). What's the view everybody? Cheers.
do the strings break at the saddle if there is a rough spot...smooth it off with emery tape also when you fit a string put some pencil lead dust on the saddle for lubrication...and tension slowly

 15.
We are currently learning some new(ish) songs for a revamped 2010 set. One of the songs requires us to transpose a song into the key of D to suit one of the female singers. The first chord is Dm7. I rang our keyboard player and asked him why we needed to transpose, when the key is already D. He said the first chord doesn't matter, as the song is in C, so I need to go up a tone. Cue embarrassment. I've realised that I'm absolutely clueless about theory, and always have been. I can groove well and have a good ear. In the 80s and 90s I composed and recorded a great deal of my own (mainly) jazz/funk/soul music. I programmed drum machines and played fairly complex chords on my Casio Midi guitar, but hadn't got a clue what I was doing theoretically. The chords just sounded 'right'. I just know if it sounds and feels OK, that's all. I can't solo over jazz chord changes, but what the hell? I'm the bass player. Does anyone else share this attitude?
jazz songs sometime start on the IIm7...so its in C the relevant start chord will be Em7 for the key of D major i am not up in theory but if you know your scales..in this case D major...remember to keep to the key signature ## in any of your basslines...F# and C#... soloing over a tune on bass can be fun...wrong notes can sound right since you arent playing full chords... if you have a good ear just try to back up the melody line here and there and where there are breaks and fills pentatonic riffs are quite acceptable with some passing notes i couldnt begin to explain how i choose what to play in theory...just try to get laid back remember the bass will be mainly putting in rhythm so harmony isnt being listened for ps jot down the new chords for backup
My Yamaha RBX-374 seems have started hissing, yes I know normally a hum or buzz, but this is more a high pitch hissing...it stops if I touch any of the control knobs or strings... Any ideas, bad earth...are they earthed? cheers
started hissing...it didnt do it before...poirot here.. have you done any changes...bridge for instance... or using it in a different venue socket etc lots of reasons which may not just be the bass..

 20.
most of the original 4x12s in the 60s which designed to pair up with a 50 or 100w valve head.were 16 ohm there were ususlly 4 x 15 ohm speakers wired up as series / parrellel. 2 pairs each wired in series giving 30 ohms, and then those 2 pairs wired in series coming back to 15 ohm.
magic!!

 22.
Im thinking about getting this Fender jazz i found in a shop. Its the best one I have played ever IMO, sounds amazing!!! The only problem is on the cosmetic side of things, its white and i dont really like white basses. Im wondering how much it would cost to get it re painted? And im guessing they would have to take the neck of to do this right? Is there anyway to get it re painted without taking it off? Thanks for any help
cant be any help with you there...white for me is the tops in any body colour..antique is a cracker but yes...you really need to get that neck off...for a pro job... what colour do you think would suit
