I'm pretty sure if I had the poles 3-4mm from the open string, I'd choke out on the pickup when I got up the dusty end!
normally setting string heights is with the last fret fretted...
 2. depends what the object is...i dont think you will get a great deal of extra attack i seem to remember most folks with the options to do both usually settle on non tbs...faster and you wont break those flats
 3. i find G is always a bit weak and twangy i have gotten used to playing it with a bit of extra finger pluck
 4. i like the fresh look of maple but its too bright for me rosewood is my choice
 5.
Hi there, At home when practicing, I have my Jazz plugged into my Shuttle 6.0, and listen to the lot on headphones. Now when I pluck the strings, the sound that rings is an annoying "bow" sound, rather than a plain "berr" sound. (Hopefully you'll get the idea that I'm trying to describe the initial attack of the note and how it then rings out!) The sound is very noticeable on the E and A strings, less so on the D string, and even less so on the G string. Playing on an open string or a fret makes little difference either. Quite frankly, the sound annoys the hell out of me, and it seems that no matter how I blend the pickups or tone, I cannot get away from the underlying sound. My thoughts about its source are as follows: 1. The strings - although I recently changed from DR Sunbeams to EB Slinkies and it had no effect. 2. The nut - although the sound even happens when fretted 3. The pickups - even when I blend from one to the other, I get the same effect. The odds of both pickups being wrong must be low... 4. The bridge - something to do with the way the strings rest on the saddle seems logical to me 5. The amp - could it be to do with how the sound is processed by the Shuttle? Do other Shuttle users get a similarly bright tone? 6. The headphones - although I have tried others, and it seems the same. I should add at this point that when I run the amp through a cabinet, the sound is much less noticeable. You may ask why I'm bothered then, and the reason is because I'm recording in a few days time and I don't want my sound to be sh*t . Anybody have any idea what I am on about, and some ideas on what approach I should take (other than sell the damn thing!)? Cheers Mark
never thought the sound through headphones was ....well....good

 8. where would the buffer go....the wiring used is the wiring for the parallel method just rerouted adjusting the volume is all i used to do and some folks want the extra thump and so wire up that way anyhow
 9. shake rattle and roll!!.. as posted earlier..perhaps the string doesnt have enough pull down over the nut on my P i considered a washer to do this but eventually put lots of turns on the tuner to get the angle
 10.
There are many that say they prefer the tone of the 2EQ. They'll be along in a bit
sorry...if you have 3 you dont have to use the mid i only had a 3 and glad of it

 13.
I have had the same problem with Rotosound flats on one of my Jazz basses -In my case it was a duff G string. I dont use Rotos any more!
best answer so far go TI and feel the difference
 14.
I have recently got hold of a really nice lens for low light photography, so I thought what better way to try it than on some bass in a chair pics? Here is one I just snapped... the lens is manual focus so it took a few tries to get it right because despite my magnifying eyepiece it is harder to focus in low light! ped Shame the bass isn't straight in the chair, the legs of the chair aren't rotated to be square with the wall and the skirting board isn't straight along the bottom of the pic... and the bass shadows could be removed too. I'll get there one day..
do you have a tripod
 15. take up another instrument...then you will feel the harness tighten really!! that is what i did when i moved from reeds to bass

 20. if you need to change and not for looks but for mass and you dont want a badass i can only comment on the schaller range as better engineered and finished...roller saddle models
 21. mass production techniques dont promise fidelity or real consistency you just hit the wall

 23.
Thanks for the replies guys. I only ask because I have a neck with an overhanging fret board and was thinking of buying a P bass body to put it on. The one I'm looking at has a pick guard that does not leave room for it to sit on the body. So was wondering if it would work over the pick guard. Could always cut the pick guard down if the neck overhang was not high enough to get over it??
that more or less answers it...make the pg fit the crime
 24.
There are basses where the fretboard overhangs. Still, you'd want that bit of the fretboard to be in contact with the body, so the pickguard would have to be cut around the overhang, not around the neck pocket. I've never seen any fenders/squires with overhanging fretboards.
"The pick guard should match the neck pocket on the body.If the fretboard overhangs the bottom of the neck, the pick guard will sit under the overhang." see above...none of my basses have the fretboard at the same level as the pg
 25. switch wear is my guess turn off the vol when you do it..
