Does anyone know if playing an electric guitar through a bass amp would damage the amp?

right ive put a new battery in and its working again!

i got my new bass off the internet last week, everything was fine with it until friday night when there was no sound coming out the amp, i tried on another amp the same thing was happening. does anybody have any ideas as to what the problem is? or if it could be expensive to get fixed or a quick cheap joby?

Is there any reason as to why the strings would vibrate even though they are held on the fretboards hard enough?
