Hurry up!!
hahahaha it's all moving unnaturally quickly isn't it! There has to be some kind of 'wait for at least 2 months for a 'bla-bla-bla' thing coming or it'll be done this month which is insane for a completely custom build!

I got an email last night while I was at band practise so quite naturally I halted the practise so I could show everyone the latest bunch of baby photos here comes a neck... body ready for final check on the carve and then onto sanding etc

So just before Christmas I spent a very pleasant morning with Jon Shuker discussing a potential custom build effectively cloning my main gigging bass ('78 P) and updating a few features to improve reliability etc... First job was to take detailed measurements of the donor bass all up and down the neck and around the body, profile, thickness, width, depth etc including fingerboard radius and neck shape before choosing some lovely bits of wood The Spec maple neck birdseye maple fingerboard two way truss rod carbon fibre reinforcement jumbo stainless steel fret wire black face dots (possibly just 12th fret) - to be decided!! 2mm black side dots satin neck lacquer (with an aged tint but not so yellow) graphite nut hipshot tuners swamp ash body (41.5mm thickness) Typical P carve polyester basecoat gloss polyurethane topcoat, lower sheen (with an aged tint but not too yellow) BWB Scratchplate chrome hardware Hipshot A series bridge Labella 760FS strings Seymour Duncan SPB-1 pickup volume and tone copper shielding Shuker Hardcase The pics Body Wood is a lovely grained piece of swamp ash cut and joined to give a virtually bookmatched appearance Fingerboard wood is from a beautiful piece of birdseye flamed maple ...this is the bit Rough body carve done hhmmm a bit more to come off yet getting there now, much more like it ...to be continued
Thank you. A shade too heavy and too wide. Another sleepless night avoided. I do find these incredibly attractive. I guess the single pup version is a touch lighter? Anyway, GLWYS, shouldn't be around for long.
No probs matey, glad your sleep isn't interrupted
Two questions, if you don't mind. How much does this weigh? How wide is the neck at the nut? Ta
Good questions and useful info I missed out...will do the measuring/weighing this evening when I get home General comment on weight though, less than either of my p-basses Nut width, less than either of my p basses but not quite jazz narrow I think both tbc this evening when I get home

[s]For sale is my y.o.b. '77 Guild B-302, only selling as I've commissioned a build by Jon Shuker and need to raise some cash... She's in brilliant 'mojo' condition, some lovely areas of genuine wear but no real battle scars, she's been played but loved. The only slight issue is a crack in the scratchplate (see pic) but it's not in a place that should cause problems. At some point an owner has added a second strap button at the bridge end to permit use of schaller straplocking buttons. Upside of this is she balances perfectly now too when on a strap Cased in a magnificent handmade and definitely vintage hard case that does the job really nicely. Everything works, neck is spot on, frets are great, she plays real fast, sounds huge and looks seriously badass! A few dims... 9.2lb on the scales. Nut width 41mm 1st fret neck thickness 20mm 12th fret fingerboard width 52mm 12th fret neck thickness 22mm Local collection from Sheffield very welcome, can ship within UK if need be.
