1. holy smokes this is dirt dirt dirty cheap! I paid way more than that to have it built and shipped over from St Louis! David does only use really nice bits for his builds, a bit like Nash do...and it sounds frickin awesome! I was only thinking about this bass the other day and wondering where it'd got to...someone's gonna get a total steal of a stunning bass here!! really that cheap!!!!! that's less than a cr*ppy MIM fender!!!!!!!!
2. Yep that looks lush alright ...good job I don't really like j basses... ...It looks so good though...
3. Looks like a grand's worth when new and working? Nice find https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.ampeg.com/pdf/v4bh.pdf&ved=0CCYQFjAAahUKEwih5_LF_cLIAhUIhhoKHXy6CoA&usg=AFQjCNGqFDKkISMX-n5X7bEz6eGGdiYe7w&sig2=nxPB5W9ElFb_vFJB1JsCdA http://www.gak.co.uk/en/ampeg-v-4b-head/114185?gclid=CjwKEAjw-vewBRDH1-b52Lig1hkSJACTPfVFPe-ux7GRa-MxJxfIjGtFRJ6aQm0-ZMYIzrh50syPxxoCVDPw_wcB
4.
I think he may have said they looked like they were dipped in Marmite.
Hahahahahahaha yep (Edit...He says cuprinol... ...about as tasty as marmite IMHO )
5. So they're like Marmite then yes? I tried one in a shop years ago and rather liked it but wanted to spend more time getting to know it than I had available to me...I'd love to meet a fretless 4 string mk1
6.
This bass used to be mine and I'd fully support that. Whilst maple-board fretless Precisions appear to be, for reasons I don't fully understand, quite an acquired taste, they are two things. Firstly outstanding instruments. Maple necks to my ear compensate for all of the limitations of rosewood and a single P-PUP, the player is far better able to tease nuances out of the bass in a manner more in keeping with an ebony board. Second, they are getting VERY rare in original configuration, and even rarer in this condition. In short, this is in investment condition (this is why I sold it, nothing remains in investment condition for very long in my house). I am very tempted to offer a trade with something that Andy might find more to his liking, but suspect that I would never want to gig it in case I dropped it etc, and the finish is so beautiful that would be a real shame. I also have about 4 more fretless basses than I need at present. But I do keep coming back to this page
Thanks matey, most kind, she is awful purdy and in need of a new home
7. I've been advised that this bass is advertised far too cheaply and it should be much nearer £1,800! Therefore I am going to do nothing cos this is bass chat and top dollar is to be found outside the family so the bargain price remains
8.
MB1. Please Note Any Trades posted on a Sales ad will be removed without warning Please PM all trades/offers directly to the seller.
Sorry matey, I've been corrected by pm too...oops
9.
Cheers, but I struggle with frets nevermind without !!
no worries
10.
If it had frets I would
Oh but frets are so confining
11. p bass cable combo unless I could borrow gear of course...
12.
If you do sell my '78 Fretless P/J is in the classified section, I'd love to offer a trade but I have far too many fretless basses! Good luck Chris
haha thanks matey This lovely lady http://basschat.co.uk/topic/270731-fs-78-fender-precision-fretless-pj-withdrawn/ oo nice
13.
That looks familiar If it's the one I think it is, it is absolutely lovely to play and hear, and a pure stunner to look at. A classic vintage Fender. Good luck with the sale.
Thanks matey, she's a beaut for sure! I'd probably trade for a fretless PJ even with cash my way, just need more tonal options. PICS UP
14. Oo fancy a '78 fretless p bass with cash my way?
15. [s]For sale is my '78 fretless p-bass with factory fretless maple fingerboard and super 70's sunburst finish. The bass is all original and has all its ashtrays, thumb rest etc, there's even an old fender strap that looks about the right age and the original sales receipt from Soho Soundhouse in '80. I have changed the pickup screws and scratchplate screws for new ones but the original ones are included. I also have a period correct G&G Fender hardcase which didn't come with the bass but is exactly the right style to have done so (see pics)... It was sold to me as a '78 and the serial number indicates as much... (although it can mean anything from '77ish to '79ish in Fender world - original receipt dated 1980). Weighs 9 & 3/4 lb and with a nice strap is very comfy and nicely balanced. The fit and finish are darn good and the neck pocket is nice and snug (see pics). While I've had it I've used it live twice and recorded with it once and it sounded lush with a lovely warmth to the mwah on the upper register notes, super sweet and classy Selling because more recording opportunities are coming up and something a tad more versatile would be beneficial so am after an aternative fretless (ideally an ACG Uber fretless 4 or Wal MK1 fretless 4 or maybe Guild B-302 fretless) for a wider tonal pallette. Bass is in Sheffield, happy to ship (price includes UK shipping). 16. Hey all, As this question seems to be in vogue just now I'll add my request to the list... At least one of the saddle height screws on my '77 p bass are knackered and one has been replaced with a 'too short but better than nothing' replacement that doesn't quite have the right thread but is holding, I want to raise the action a tad and so need to replace the screws with something that will work properly... Does anyone know exactly what they should be? Cheers Andy
17. best pedal compressor I've used on a 'amount of control for the money and sound quality' type measurement thingy

yep, more of the same, yadda yadda from cable yoda...he's amazing, just get cables from him! just got a pair of speaker cables with the new right angled neutrik connectors to try, my cabs will now go nice and tight up to a wall without bending or breaking the connectors or cable.....schwing!!!
19. s/h laptop bag, piece of 18mm mdf cut to fit, stick on rubber feet, Velcro... tada
20.
This, we are all wireless now and it is neater with no pirouettes to untangle yourself when you've been wandering about
It also means you can throw the bass over one shoulder and catch it when it comes back around...without garroting yourself on the cable
21.
Something is not right with that sound guy. I played plenty of festivals this past summer with provided high end sound. Nobody has ever had a problem with my line6 Blue
Cheers Blue, I did wonder about him
22. I use an obbm one that's a tad longer than the stock one
