If you do sell my '78 Fretless P/J is in the classified section, I'd love to offer a trade but I have far too many fretless basses! Good luck Chris
haha thanks matey This lovely lady http://basschat.co.uk/topic/270731-fs-78-fender-precision-fretless-pj-withdrawn/ oo nice -
That looks familiar If it's the one I think it is, it is absolutely lovely to play and hear, and a pure stunner to look at. A classic vintage Fender. Good luck with the sale.
Thanks matey, she's a beaut for sure! I'd probably trade for a fretless PJ even with cash my way, just need more tonal options. PICS UP -

SOLD 1978 Fender Precision factory Fretless (all original)
andydye posted a topic in Basses For Sale
[s]For sale is my '78 fretless p-bass with factory fretless maple fingerboard and super 70's sunburst finish. The bass is all original and has all its ashtrays, thumb rest etc, there's even an old fender strap that looks about the right age and the original sales receipt from Soho Soundhouse in '80. I have changed the pickup screws and scratchplate screws for new ones but the original ones are included. I also have a period correct G&G Fender hardcase which didn't come with the bass but is exactly the right style to have done so (see pics)... It was sold to me as a '78 and the serial number indicates as much... (although it can mean anything from '77ish to '79ish in Fender world - original receipt dated 1980). Weighs 9 & 3/4 lb and with a nice strap is very comfy and nicely balanced. The fit and finish are darn good and the neck pocket is nice and snug (see pics). While I've had it I've used it live twice and recorded with it once and it sounded lush with a lovely warmth to the mwah on the upper register notes, super sweet and classy Selling because more recording opportunities are coming up and something a tad more versatile would be beneficial so am after an aternative fretless (ideally an ACG Uber fretless 4 or Wal MK1 fretless 4 or maybe Guild B-302 fretless) for a wider tonal pallette. Bass is in Sheffield, happy to ship (price includes UK shipping). Hey all, As this question seems to be in vogue just now I'll add my request to the list... At least one of the saddle height screws on my '77 p bass are knackered and one has been replaced with a 'too short but better than nothing' replacement that doesn't quite have the right thread but is holding, I want to raise the action a tad and so need to replace the screws with something that will work properly... Does anyone know exactly what they should be? Cheers Andy
This, we are all wireless now and it is neater with no pirouettes to untangle yourself when you've been wandering about
It also means you can throw the bass over one shoulder and catch it when it comes back around...without garroting yourself on the cable
Something is not right with that sound guy. I played plenty of festivals this past summer with provided high end sound. Nobody has ever had a problem with my line6 Blue
Cheers Blue, I did wonder about him

I use an obbm one that's a tad longer than the stock one
Wals are lovely but have you tried these yet? Pedulla Pentabuzz (loads of sustain with lots of bright mwah) Ashbory bass (Rubbery sound a little like an upright and very even response) Godin Acoustibass (light weight and very resonant) NS Wav upright (long scale add huge depth and bloom to the notes) All of them are standard setting fretless instruments in their own way.
Oo thanks matey, Pedulla no but I do like the sound when Timothy B Schmidt of the Eagles breaks his out - would like to try one! Ashbury - yeah tried one, couldn't do the short scale thing, felt weird but sounded ok Godin - not tried one of these either... NS NXT - got one and love it, use it for emulating upright sounds, gets close enough for live use My try list is now Wal fetless 4 and Pedulla Pentabuzz 4...and a Godin if I can find one
I edited the post above to include the bit about the low power option. Don't know if you have seen it or not. May prevent this situation should you play in a similar environment again!
"I've just read that Line6 has an option on their transmitter that reduces the power down to 3.3mW. The added bonus is that with less power, you can get more devices in the same RF spectrum without running inter modulation issues and of course, much longer battery life. If you aren't running about all over the place, I would highly recommend that you take the power down to avoid such problems in future." Oo, gonna check in the manual whether the G50 can do this!
Sometimes the path of least resistance is best.
yeah I didn't want to tick him off, I could make everyone's life easier at the expense of some small convenience for me...not really an issue and exactly why I carry a backup cable
-
The reason he poo-pooed it is that he/she wanted to eliminate any risk (even if it could be fixed with a channel switch) to loss of control of the PA mix. Once bitten and all that. That kinda makes his need greater than going wireless - especially if he is using a console-less mixer.
which is why I didn't press the issue and just reached for my spare cable to make him happy...'keep the sound guy sweet' and all that
-
Yes - you should have said to the sound guy, get yourself a 5 GHz router. - It's because his wireless router will have been running on 2.4Ghz and your data streams were not playing nicely with his. You should have been able to switch channels though to avoid the problem.
cheers matey I presumed there'd be a fix for it cos it seems like 90% of the wireless systems out in playland are line6...I suggested switching channels and he 'poo-pooed' the idea...

oh they're both so pretty, darn you Alan, darn you to heck

Had a funny thing at a festival this weekend just gone...the sound guy was mixing via ipad and it went a bit screwy so he asked if anyone had the line6 digital wireless cos it always interferes with his ipad connection...I switched back to wired for that show and he was happy...me less so...anyone else had this?
What you got to remember, is that the great recorded tone that you are hearing, especially in modern recordings, have been eq and post processed to feck in the studio. It may be worth experimenting with some outboard if you are struggling to get a great core sound... it may be that your brain is hankering for something more processed. I know that there will be people going on about "pure tone" but at the end of the day, the resulting sound is the result of the component parts... so maybe book a day at a studio with a competent engineer to help craft your tone so you can figure out what you are looking to do to your core tone maybe?
good point, cheers matey. I do now use an MXR bass compressor and that gets me much closer to the basic sound I'm after, it may be that one of the basses I used to have would have benefitted from that comp and so could have been the sound in my head...dammit :/
