  1. I've got an Ibanez EHB1265MS and an Iyv [1] headless fan-fret, as well as assorted other headlesses. I don't have any problem swapping between fan-fret and parallel (and parallel fretless). I'm not all that convinced of the supposed advantage of fan-frets. [1] Vietnamese maker, OEM supplier for Harley Benton apparently. This is the same model: https://reverb.com/item/65877497-iyv-5-string-headless-electric-bass
  2. One is new and the other used, so going by the "somewhere around 50%" rule of thumb that applies, the used one is considerably overpriced.
  3. "And… you get a Gene Simmons (KISS-rehearsal-used) bass signed by Gene Simmons" Doesn't say whether it's used by Gene Simmons himself or the session man playing for him.
  4. Well, in American parlance, fenders are mudguards...
  5. Depends which side of the street you walk. Come to that, it's also different for the keyboard player/singer/main man in the originals band I'm in.
  6. It seems to have been pivoted about the centre point so the bridge end is lower and the neck end higher. Seems a strange thing to do.
  7. 34" four strings are the commonest and therefore the easiest to sell, though the flip side of that is that there will be a lot of buyers competing in the marketplace. Do they have any 4-string 32" basses that you would like to keep? And what about doing some research on Ebay and Reverb, and in shops selling second-hand instruments, to get an idea of prices?
  8. A badge that Mrs Zero would wear with pride.
  9. Something I wasn't expecting last night at the Cavern was for one of my old drummers to turn up. We were in a band together in 2010, he had to move away with work, initially to Exeter which was a bit far and then to North Yorkshire, so he left. It turns out he moved to Sutton Coldfield a couple of years ago and joined a band last year which is just starting on the hunt for gigs. They did half a dozen numbers last night and were really excellent. If you see Poppy Jam playing a gig in your neighbourhood, I recommend going to watch them.
  10. Good. Love isn't always on time.
  11. Boss SY-200. I was considering getting one, then one cropped up for a price it would have been rude to refuse. Have been doing some experimenting and finding sounds I can definitely make use of, which is nice.
  12. There's a lesson for you right there. Warwick necks vary enormously - you may simply not have yet met the Warwick neck that suits you.
  13. Bought a Boss SY-200 from @0175westwood29. All went well, slight delay in posting but I didn't have urgent need for it so no matter. Thanks Andy.
  14. They look dirty to me rather than rusty. If I wanted a painted 4-string that was far too expensive simply for the name on the headstock, I'd consider this.
  15. Two minutes was enough for me.
  16. To make the most of one of those, I'd need Charles Berthoud's hands.
  17. Played at the Half Moon in Littleover, Derby last night. It's a rather odd shaped room, we're down in the bit with the pool table which sort of protrudes rearwards from the main body of the pub. @SpondonBassed lives nearby and dropped in to watch us for a while. Singer was unsure how well his voice would hold out so we dropped a couple of songs which most strain it. I managed to make more mistakes on "Make me smile" (the only song that I sing) than I have on any previous performance. And I forgot my massive floor fan. Otherwise it was all good.
  18. I think the word everyone is looking for is "prolapsed".
  19. The UMC204HD is good too, and has MIDI and two XLR/jack inputs rather than the one XLR and one jack of the UMC22.
  20. Sounds like the finish that was stripped wasn't original. Maybe it started life natural. Looks like a nice bit of wood.
  21. It's the missing link, the stage in evolution before
  22. Thanks, yes, it was only the middle position that was puzzling me. I've ordered an on-on-on switch, must check it and see which type it is before using it.
  23. I know you've now got it sorted, but for future reference, if you have a drill (ideally in a stand or a pillar drill) that will run in reverse, a small left-handed drill bit would be worth using to drill the head off as it can loosen up the screw.
  24. Looks as if it's been sweated on a lot and put away for a few years with those rusted up bridge springs and screws and the spotty pickup poles and strings. Machine heads look in pretty good order, don't think there's an issue with where it's been stored. Whoever strung it up has no idea about how to deal with string ends though. And I would guess that it ought to be half that price.
