1.
Bernard Butler thought he was the bees knees, and too good for the band. He formed his own band McAlmont and Butler Remember them?? Nor do I.
Suede never did it for me, but I always thought this was a top tune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POIIGYt5RlE
2. Bought a Digitech Hardwire CM-2 from Dan. Easy, fast transaction - great comms. Pedal arrived the next day. Pleasure dealing with you Mr Bowskill.
3.
Also Quiet Sun/Phil Manzanera albums are different to the Roxy stuff.
801 Live got a shout in post #136. Mainstream by Quiet Sun has been favourite of mine since the 70s - still sounds good.
4.
Focus 3
Yup, that crossed my mind too.
5. Tritone a.k.a. diabolus in musica, 'the devil's interval'.
6. I'd have to add another vote for CTTE as it's been close to my heart for more than four decades, but I've been listening to a lot of Van der Graaf Generator and Peter Hammill recently and I'd say that both Pawn Hearts and H To He Who Am The Only One are definite contenders.
7. Er, yes it is. Made to order - presumably as a travel bass. Um.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/22-5-scale-Headless-Fretless-Bass-Luthier-Guitar-/121724055685?hash=item1c5751b085
8. I suppose if you'd drunk the contents of the boxes it's leaning against you MIGHT consider buying this. Actually, no, not even then. The protruding screws are probably my favourite feature. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/cool-vintage-1962-HOME-MADE-BASS-GUITAR-Danelectro-style-fretless-/271946556798?hash=item3f5147257e
9. I use G-Stomper Studio on my Android tablet when I'm on the go - in fact I'm using it right now on holiday It's a very versatile composition app featuring a drum machine/sample trigger and a fully programmable synth - both with step sequencers. It's possible to assemble and mix complex tracks and arrangements and I find it very intuitive to use. Definitely the best that I've come across.
10.
G&L L2000 Tribute has 42 different possible settings if I remember correctly.
I reckon it's 27 with the K mod. And that's without even touching the bass and treble pots so yeah, I think it qualifies as pretty versatile
11.
EBS are both the smallest, lowest profile and cheapest you'll ever find.
+1 I managed to make room for two more pedals on my board by swapping my old patch cables for these.
12. This has been at the top my want list for a while. Don't think I can justify pulling the trigger till later in the year, but encouraging to hear more good things about it in the meantime.
13. I bought Matt's Zoom MS 60B. All very straightforward - good comms, pedal arrived exactly as described. Another exemplary BC transaction.
14. Gibson Thunderbird, G&L Tribute L2000, Yamaha TRB1005 and NS NXT4, all of which I still own. Now I'm just waiting for someone to put their Ibanez SRF705 up for sale!
15. The neck might be okay, but I think £850 is a little, ahem, optimistic... http://www.gumtree.c...1979/1123302062
16. I was in a pub in a remote village on the north west coast of Scotland a few years ago. There was a band playing who'd come up from Glasgow (acoustic guitar, fiddle, bodhran and vox through a small PA) and when they took a break, the fiddle player did a short set of Brassens, Thackray etc. chansons, accompanying himself on guitar. The sound was so bad - guitar too loud and boomy, vocals almost inaudible - that after the first song, since his band mates weren't going to do anything about it, I was compelled to rush over to the stage area, tell him the sound was awful and then make suitable adjustments to the mixer/amp. Fortunately my guerilla sound engineering was gratefully received on this occasion, but I do appreciate that in other circumstances it might not have gone down so well!
17.
https://en.m.wikiped...iki/Emily_Wells Great violinist this girl......I'm going to see her in concert soon!
Me too - in Portree. Should be a great gig.
18. Makes sense - you're always alerting us to the dark side of the Moondance
19. I put a set of EP weichs on my NXT 4 a week ago and they're settling in nicely. Really like the sound both pizz and arco. I'll report back, but so far so good.
20.
I don`t know how better to describe them as they sound like Ian Paisley, they just bark ultra-aggressively
You have surpassed yourself Lozz. That's an inspired addition to the lexicon of bass sound descriptions! Hat duly doffed.
21. Hi Mark, Great EUB. Can i suggest you ask the mods to move this to the EUB and Double Basses For Sale forum? It's more likely to catch the eye of a potential buyer there. GLWTS
22.
^^^ very nice! I'm something of a G&L-lover (I went for a JB-2 rather than a Jazz). It's a shame there aren't many opportunities to try out their gear on these shores. Edit: just checked the spec and it's got coil-tapping too.... it's a bit of a box-ticker!
I'm very impressed by mine. The humbucker/single coil option makes it very versatile and the neck's good - plays really well. I bought mine 18 months ago from Thomann and they're now selling them for nearly £100 less than I paid!!!! Like you, I was already a G&L convert (I've got a Tribute L2000) and I really don't think you can go wrong with them.
23. Slightly different vibe, but I can recommend these:
24. Bought a modded Bad Monkey off Mark. Lovely easy deal, great comms. Pedal arrived swiftly and safely - very well packaged. Great bloke to deal with.
25. I've noticed that Graham Lewis of Wire plays like this too. Tried it myself, but it felt weird. On the rare occasions I play with a pick it's downstrokes for me or down, up, down, up etc.
