1. I got myself a nice 27" monitor for my PC (Reaper will look great, as will pics from the jazz bass porn thread) and a new hard drive to store all my recordings on. I also got a Planet Waves American Stage cable which does actually make my bass sound brighter and clearer compared to my Klotz cable. Next step is to order me an OBBM cable and use the Planet Waves one as a backup. I also got some socks and underwear
2. I'm Spartacus.
3.
Next time I go to change basses someone stop me and tell me to try changing strings instead!.
I'll try but I know what you're like!
4. I've got the 4 string version and it's brilliant to play. Nice passive and active tone options. Has a humbucker sound, obviously from the humbucking pickups but worth mentioning as I find it quite un-vintage in tone. Not a bad thing of course but I've grown rather fond of the vintagey sound of my Overwater Classic J.
5.
If unknown music was interesting there would be more of us Basschat members checking out our fellows in the Share Your Music thread in the Recording section, or listening and voting in the monthly Basschat Composition Competitiion. As it is, hardly anyone does. So all this slagging of X-Factor just looks like ignorant hypocrisy to me.
Totally love Soundcloud for both the interesting new music and it's ability to help us easily post our own stuff up for the comp. I'm not a fan of X-factor though, it seems more like a soap to me than anything else.
6. This is a great post with some fantastic info in it. I think this deserves a sticky
7.
Indeed it is. Apart from the giant arachnid infestation! Shudders.
I thought that was his web access? I'll get me coat...
8. That's a beautiful looking room Lurksalot.
9. Something in Jan will be cool yeah. I'm up for that.
10. I've just found my old box of vinyl which has this rare gem in it:
11.
Mr Bungle are peerless. Mike Patton is a musical wonder.
This.
12. Bugger, wish I'd seen this before the 3rd!
13. Great basses these are. Mine is my main gigging/recording bass and it sounds great and plays amazingly well. I'd be tempted but well, I already have one and yours is like mine has the nicer-looking pearl-white pickguard too.
14.
I can't believe I'm the only one who voted for Paul h's beautiful piece though!
Give it it's full name please! "Some Kind Of Ghost Wedding. I Don't Know, I'm Not Good With Names."
15.
I notice it, Spoombung - I just don't believe I could compete, so it's kept me well away in the past.
It's a challenge and just putting a piece together and putting it up alongside others' work is a great achievement in itself. Don't worry about not being able to compete. I see some real talent from every single person who enters this competition. And the support that everyone gets when they submit a piece (or even think about submitting one!) is incredible and is worth the entry fee alone. (There's no entry fee by the way, that's just an expression!)
16. You can do it with GarageBand no problem. It's been a while since I used GB but if you can add EZ Drummer to a channel as an effect/virtual instrument it will play using EZ Drummer's kit. (You can drag the midi files onto tracks with any other instrument too. I created a fun tune by doing that by accident.)
17. Paul H gets my vote for the best title (Just listening to them now, will vote once I'm done!)
18.
Hold on I don't play the drums!
Exactly why you need EZ Drummer!
19. ThHis is still on today and in my opinion is an absolute steal: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/totalstudio3/ Around £60-70 or so nabs you Miroslav Philharmonik (superb virtual orchestra), T-racks deluxe mastering suite, loads of reverbs, Amplitube amp sims and a load of sampled instruments. If I didn't own half of these already I'd have snapped it up without thinking! May still be worth it for the stuff I haven't got but a car service and MOT has shrunk my funds
20. Bargain price! I use this software all the time and reckon it's quite easy to get good results. Simples to use too so you can get straight in and lay down the drums for a song that's in your head.
21. Got Friday, Mon and Tues off work so looking forward to a long weekend to enjoy this lot and vote! Then hopefully get back into entering again
22. Another bargain thanks to our US cousins and their Black Friday deals. Time Space (and other places too I reckong) have EZ Keys with 70% off, giving you a pretty cool tool for around £33 or so: http://www.timespace.com/product/EZKEYSUP-120/3/9999929/Toontrack%20EZkeys%20Upright%20Piano%20%28Serial%20Download%29.html I got it the other day, chucked together some jazz piano loops into a simple verse/chorus/verse/chorus, threw in some jazz drums from EZ Drummer and jammed away to it. Great fun! Easy to transpose stuff too in EZ Keys and best bit for me: it shows you the name of the chord (if it is a chord!) when you hold down a few keys on your midi keyboard. No more embarrassingly googling piano chords now
23. I thought I had some random music playing along with that song, but nope, turns out it's just a horrible clash of music and "singing".
24. A couple of threads can help you out here. The first is the free VSTs one that's stickied at the top of this forum: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/77603-free-vsts/ I also popped together a mini guide to getting started cheaply with home recording that mentions some software too: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/176553-mini-guide-to-starter-gear-for-recording-cheaply/
25. When you mute a user there's an option to "also report user to Soundcloud as spam". And there, I got all the way through this (albeit short) reply without mentioning anything about the pics they use on these accounts. I'm being good.
