My Chinese-made VS115 is 17kg by the way. It's the second cab for my 220 Touring Combo which is very nice. Similar tone controls to the LB, no idea if the sound's similar, probably not for the price but I do love how mine dirties-up the sound when you turn the gain up. Try plugging an active bass into the passive input too for added distortion (the manual for my 220 said it's ok to do so).

Can anyone help with this? Frustrated :(
I find it's best to start with a click at a very slow tempo, however slow it needs to be that you can play the figure consistently then once your brain and your fingers know what they are doing, up the tempo by say, 5bpm and only moving up when you can play that consistently too etc.
This +100. This is what my bass tutor always advises. Start off slowly, get your muscle memory locked into it then increase the BPM. He recommends 2 BPM at a time but you could try 5 BPM. Only up the tempo once you've mastered the previous one. -

I'm surprised no one's mentioned a custom build yet to be honest. That would be ideal, but it's pricey and takes months. I imagine a couple of £k?
What about a mex jazz bass ? I'm selling a superb one
Sorry, I'm not a fan of MIM Fenders I'm afraid.
If you want to take a short hop over the bridge you're more than welcome to play my T-40s (I have both incarnations) and anything else I have that you take a fancy to.
Cheers for the offer, much appreciated I think the Peaveys may be far to heavy for me, I've heard they're quite the beast! I've already got a heavyweight bass in my Overwater Contemporary J and I'm looking for a smaller and lighter one.

Quick update. I tried a Yamaha TRBX 504 and lurrrrrrved it. Almost pulled the trigger on one too but I've not tried out all of the other suggestions. I still need to try some Jaguar basses if I can find somewhere with some in stock around Bristol.

Yeah it has a passive tone control. But I won't pay £750 for a MIM Fender as all of the MIM Fenders I've ever played have been average to poor. My Tanglewaters blow MIMs out of the water. Heck, they give MIAs a run for their money most days.

If you had to make do with one bass - which would it be?
Mornats replied to Black Coffee's topic in Bass Guitars
Gawd, if I knew the answer to this I wouldn't have 6 basses. I'm currently on the hunt for "the one". -
In here Troy says he believes it's going to be made in Mexico: http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/mastodons-troy-sanders-talks-signature-fender-571655 but the official page on Fender's website doesn't say at all. I like it, especially the dirt-cheap-yet-probably-great Squier but the Squier's active only and I'm looking for a passive bass with single/split coil pups in it.

They've just done a video of each of them: Fender: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk250uHzMtY Squier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qouq_1A0aBY Troy's got a good sense of humour too
Not arf....... I have had tracks licensed for Sony PSP Mini games and iPad/Android Apps through people lurking on Soundcloud. They messaged me and I just sent them off to my Library company. I am just about to get the Soundcloud Pro as well, much bigger audience open to you.
That's awesome mate. So what's the trick in getting noticed? I guess using the correct/appropriate tags?
how much is it to go pro just out of interest?
It's 29 Euros for the year, a total bargain IMO. Or 3 Euro a month if you wanna do it that way.

I love Soundcloud too. 3440 plays for me - wow, I know what you mean Bilbo about taking years to play in front of that many.

Best way to tell the wife..... ' I've just bought a new bass !'

I divorced mine. Then I started buying basses. -

One of these in black: http://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical-instruments/guitars-basses/el-basses/trbx/trbx504/?mode=model - Yamaha TRBX 504. Superb player, sounds awesome.
-
Nah you have to record them really quiet so you'd be adjusting the input gain on the input device. The trouble is that if you want to just DI the bass or use other amp software your levels will be too low then.
RIGHT! I couldn't wait, I've just pulled the trigger on one of these. Hopefully be with me sooooooon!!!
Haha, I really should sell some of my basses first but you don't know how tempted I am to ask my local PMT to order one in for me in black. Must resist... as I need new glasses too and someone mentioned that they're a little more important than a new bass, or summat like that.
My bass collection fretless is 7 lbs.
My Bass Collection SB320 fretless is 7lbs 4 (I've got metal knobs which probably make up the 4 oz). My heaviest one is my Overwater Contemporary J which is 10lb 7. In metric, those are 3.3kg and 4.7kg.

I played one of these today and loved it. Lovely neck, very easy to play and sounds awesome. Good price too. I think this will definitely replace my Tanglewaters (which are great, but big and heavy).

Tortoise shell doesn't go with maple - prove me wrong
Mornats replied to Jono Bolton's topic in Bass Guitars
Nice.What's the sound like?
It's got a punchy, active sound but it's a bit thin and lacks anything that would make it sound anything like a Musicman. I was playing Pinball's Esh that he's got up for sale and the Esh has a Kent Armstrong pickup in that just sounds amazing and unbelievably versatile so I'm thinking of chucking one of those in, or maybe an EMG MMTW. Otherwise, it's lovely to play, has a neck that would make a Fender Geddy Lee go to Weightwatchers and looks great. Build quality is decent for a sub-£300 bass but nothing like a Squier's. It's on my well-ok-I-suppose-I'll-have-to-sell-some-basses list unless I upgrade the pickup and decide to keep it. It's a Dean Hillsboro Single by the way. -

The trouble with tort and maple folks is that the shape of the bass is all wrong! Here, I've fixed it for you: IMG_2412 by Paul Nattress, on Flickr -
