1. Come grab a bargain type bump!
2. I've done loads of open mic nights with me on bass, our guitarist and our singer. I've taken amps before but just tend to plug straight into the PA as there's always been one there. The sounds has varied a lot so maybe I should get a DI box. My bass tutor highly recommends this: http://www.orchid-electronics.co.uk/Muting_DI_Box.htm - the muting switch is really handy he says. They also do a cheaper one without the switch. I've never got round to buying one though...
3. A very rare photo of me smiling and looking up during a gig! That's our singer Amy in front of me and that must be my Yamaha TRBX I'm holding.
4. A weekend works best for me. Thanks for looking into this for us!
5. I'd be very interested in the masterclass on setting up a bass, that would be awesome.
6. I'm very interested in something like this. I'm based in Bristol (so I'm thinking BIMM may help) but three nights a week is a bit much. What's the format of the Audio Master Class Bilbo? Worth the $217 do you reckon? I want to learn about recording vocals, bass, guitar, mixing it all together and being able to pop the results on iTunes at some point.
7. Ah sorry mate, they're really suited to my current band! Couldn't imagine playing this live with one of those badasses! http://www.reverbnation.com/beautifulskinbristol/song/20156927-red-pepper \m/
8.
I guess those who don't have any Markbass gear and are thinking of a purchase might be more tuned in to what the company are doing with new products than those of us who already own all the Markbass gear we need. Who knows.
Yep, that's me. Very interested as I'm about to drop over £700 on one but Marco's convinced me it will be a sound decision. I was concerned that I'd be paying the same price for an inferior product but that certainly does not sound like the case here. So once again, well done Marco for coming on and chatting to us
9. As I couldn't make it in the end, are you able to share the news/insight about MarkBass Mojoke? I'm still on the verge of buying one
10. Could have been the setup in the shop, there are some horribly set up Fenders in guitar shops. But for £400 you could grab a new Yammy TRBX 504 which is lovely Not a classic jazz by a long shot but a nicely different bass.
11.
BC is probably the best place to buy a used bass anywhere...competitively priced and you get to make friends too...
Definitely!
12. I'm primarily raising cash to fund my MarkBass gas (but it's worth asking as there may be something that catches my eye). I don't like those EB3s, they just never appealed to me and I'm a 4-stringer only, sorry! Lol, you've quoted my saying about drummers! Nice
13. No they don't have to be. The closer they are, the louder they can be so some people will raise or lower them to even out the volume from the front and back pickups. My Overwater Classic has a hug difference in pickup heights as the volume is quite different between the two.
14. I'm not going to be able to make it either, sorry! Have fun
15. I'm selling my Rockbass Corvette. I bought it off here a year or so ago and whilst it's a nice growly bass that sounds good and is easy to play (despite the chunky neck) there's no gap for it in my current bass needs. Also I'm saving up for a MarkBass combo and all my surplus basses have to go. Otherwise I'd keep it as a nice giggable backup bass. Here are the details:

Rockbass Corvette
£150 plus postage
Based in Bristol
This is an active bass wtih a 2 band EQ. Made in China but really well put together, can't fault it really. It's got a single Warwick bridge, not the two-piece bridge on the later, more expensive Rockbasses. Pickups are MECs. What can I say, this is your classic Rockbass Corvette, a great bass for the money. Great condition too, I can't find a fault on the body. Weight 8lbs 12oz Strung with GHS Bass Boomers 45-105. Here is the thread for when it was my NBD: http://basschat.co.u...ckbass-corvette And this how it sounds through Ampeg SVX (BA15 tube growly setting). https://soundcloud.c...dly-parked-cars It's 8lbs 12oz. I paid £150 for this off Basschat which as a bargain, and still is. It's possibly worth more but £150 from a Basschatter = £150 to a Basschatter. Collection is preferred but I do have a box to post this in and anyone local is more than welcome to pop round to try it out. I'm based in Southville, Bristol. Tyrekickers are welcome too if this will help you make your mind up about other basses. I'm happy to talk bass with anyone and I make a nice cup of tea or coffee and I'm one minute walk from North Street for a beer too. Right, into some pics before this starts getting into a lonely hearts ad! Flickr gallery: And a couple of pics for those who can't see Flash files: NOW SOLD!
16.
A bit more money, but the Fender Geddy Lee signature is a lot of bass for the money, second hand they can go as little as £400.
Isn't that just a MIM jazz with a slimmer neck and a badass bridge though? Geddy is one of my idols but I tried one of these basses and still think that every Squier I've played blows it away. Definitely not worth the £800-ish quid new in my opinion.
17. I'll show this to anyone who says my playing is too busy Never really been into Heaven 17 but this is real nice.
18. He's right, cheap guitars can indeed be more than decent! You're changing my opinion of him now. If he's recommending sorting out someone's existing guitar over buying a new one then that's sound advice and thoroughly decent of him too. What type of bass is your new bass by the way?
19. It sounds like he's telling you to take the guitar away, get used to it for a while, then take it back to tweak it to how you'd like it. That seems like sound advice actually. And yeah, he's not a bad guy, I just like to be told things straight I get turned off by any sort of sales patter at all. And grandiose comments like the one he said to me just make me lose faith in anything he says. Which is a shame as he's probably quite decent but I'll never know Eltham at Edge Guitar Studios that Pinball listed does come highly recommended.
20.
Done it pulled the trigger. I'll let you know when I get it.
Which colour did you go for? (Obviously the most important question!) Mine came in a box labelled black (that's right isn't it?) yet looks very very dark brown. In one of the videos demoing the bass online, the black one looks much more like the nirvana black finish that Warwick use than the one that's on mine. I'd have said mine was the brown but it's hard to tell. In some lights it looks black-ish. It's still lovely though.
21.
What about the other shop in Bristol near the bus station: rikaxxe (iirc)?
You'll have to listen to him lecture you about how he's one of few people in the world who truly knows how to set up a guitar properly. Never had a guitar set up by him though, I could never get past his bullshit.
22. Here is Marco's video that he mentioned: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIUFBwoYrTc Hmm, or it may be an old one!
23. I tried a 504 in my local shop and was gonna order one in black then I bought the one off Hamfist. They setup on both was identical - nice and low but no buzz whatsoever. Intonation is fine on mine (not sure of Hamfist adjusted it at all) but it seems to me that they're just really well set up from the factory. I just remembered, Hamfist did some sound clips of the 504: https://soundcloud.com/alanbridges/yamaha-trbx504-bass-clip-clean (more chat about them over here too: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/214045-nbd-yamaha-trbx504
24. Sorry I wrote that in a rush. I meant the yammy doesn't growl like the rockbass but it could be because my strings are a bit dead and dull. Sounds rocky with a pick though, very aggressive.
25. It has a nice rocky tone when you use a pick. I think my strings are a bit dead, I'm gonna change them soon and they should growl. But the rockbass growls nicely and I haven't heard that from my dull strings yet.
