1.
No, I've spoken with the shop. You buy the head and you get a 2x12" cab free of charge. No catches. The offer is on until the end of August. Edit: I'm also considering their offer for the 420w for £399; with a free 420w 2x12" cab.... unless the guy I spoke with didn't know what he was talking about
He possibly didn't as the terms on the "more info" link from that shop state: "Terms and how to claim: 1. Purchase a qualifying Rootmaster head and cab from GigGear (online or at our store)." Shame, as it would have been a cracking deal! I've seen this offer elsewhere too as it's an Ashdown offer, not a shop offer and they all say you have to buy the head and cab to qualify. You have to send your proof of purchase to Ashdown to get the cab so even if hte shop says it's alright, I doubt Ashdown would honour it if the receipt only showed the head.
2. I'll see if I can make it and will try and drag Pinball along
3. Here's some white bass porn for you discreet. Mobile friendly size
4. Holy crap! That's a lot of nice wood!
5. I was going to buy a £950 Ibanez SR1600 but decided to stick with my SB320 instead as it sounds and plays just as good. Cracking bass and my favourite colour! Almost tempted to grab it and swap the gold hardware from my SB320 into it.
6.
There are 'advantages'? Tiny screen, crap 'keyboard', expensive bandwidth and - as you've pointed out - slow. Good luck with trying to change websites to make your browsing easier
Tower PCs are notoriously difficult to carry around on a pub crawl.
7. Done! That wasn't bad at all. I'm a complete DIY novice but I managed to get it sorted. I just used a little WD-40 to loosen the spade connectors and they popped out when I used a screwdriver to nudge them a little. Oh, turns out a slug had found its way behind the speaker grill! I found slug trails all over - yuk! So, new tweeter is in. I had to shave (using a cheesegrater!) off a few mm on the top and right hand side so the screw holes would line up. It doesn't sit flush due to a chunk of plastic on the back that holds important looking bits together. If I want to make this a permanent fix I'll go back and shave off some of the wood on the cab so it sits flush. So sound-wise. That annoying hiss is gone! I no longer have to tell people that my combo isn't broken! All of the highs seem there still. I can turn up the treble on my bass and the amp and get no hiss. I'll report back after having been in a live situation but so far I'm happy. I can now mic up my combo to record through
8. Ah, I did it. I referred to the good old engineering diagram:
9. How do you remove the wires from the spade connectors? Mine just won't budge no matter how much force I put on them. Do I have to peel back the bit on the wire that wraps around the spade bit on the tweeter?
10. I've had her in my flat... Congrats, that's a superb bass!
11. I've got a CAR Tanglewater with a pearl pickguard - here's what it looks like:
12. Sitting pretty next to my TV bump. Can't have this looking great and not being played!
13. Bump. I've been eyeballing some lovely black basses over on the Maruszczyk website so I'm starting to feel some love for this beast again. If you want it, grab it quick!
14. I've passed up the opportunity to buy this one 3 times now. Dare I pass it up again? I've had this bass in my flat and have played it and loved it. I can't think what initially stopped me from buying it. Hmm, I'll have a think about this one mate! I have an Overwater Contemporary Jazz for potential trade (see link in my sig) if that interests you? Not 100% sure I'll buy another bass just yet though so don't hold on to it for me.
15. Yeah, I've got the Ampeg SVX one and it does sound good.
16.
Why not just turn it off?
I meant mine goes into flight mode or I turn it off ("flight mode or off") - I wasn't 100% clear with that Sometimes I may want to grab a quick photo of he band set up on stage so I tend to use flight mode more often.
17. My phone goes into flight mode or off when on stage. Nothing worse than amps picking up interference or your mum calling you to ask how your gig is going.

Compression?

I've got a Behringer DC-9 too. Got it for around £18 new. I wanted one to even out slight variances in playing and to help notes ring out for longer on slower songs. It does the trick. I need to boost the bass on the amp ever so slightly as it does cut the lows a little but you have to go high up in the compressor ladder to get one that doesn't. My next bit of GAS is for a MarkBass Compressore
19. My new favourite bass maker! Wow!
20. I do like that! Shame they don't mass produce them
21. Hehe I actually love the colour of this (and love the black sticker you put on it to mimic a sound hole!) but I do have a preference for darker woods like your Ibby. I'm not sure if I'd change it but I'm also tempted to see how it goes as I fancy getting my SB320 changed from stained brown to stained-nicer-colour (deep wine red like my old fretless).

23.
It is okay, to have two basses
At least two...
24. Mine has to be the amazing Kat Marsh from The King Blues. I got chatting to her after seeing her new act Lionface play at the Louisiana in Bristol. I was chatting to her bass player and she overhead us and chatted to me for ages about which basses I had. All round top girl, down to earth and friendly and just one cool lass. Totally have a massive crush on her now! Here she is playing for the King Blues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lD8gey7HYI And here is her new act Lionface: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X40VN3hwrsQ I've got a lovely signed CD off her too
25. I've played a tonne of Fenders in various music shops. Around 4-5 USA ones, 6-7 Mexican ones and 4-5 Squiers and have to say that they're still inconsistent. I never liked any of the MIM Fenders, they all felt that average cheap basses. Two of the USA ones were simply some of the nicest basses I've played, whilst the others felt like MIM basses or worse. Squiers on the other hand were consistently very good, some were nicer to play than the bad USA ones and all were better than the MIM ones. All in my opinion of course, but the end result is that I'd never buy any Fender, USA or MIM without playing it. I'd take a punt on a Squier though but we are talking different money here of course. I've played a fair few Ibanez basses, mainly the SR1200, SR1600 and SR1800 (all around £850-950) and they've been consistently excellent. I've also played 3 different Yamaha TRBX 504s (including the one I bought off Hamfist on here) and they've all been consistently good. What I take from all of the above is that it's most likely down to setup and not much else. There wasn't anything wrong at all about all those Fender, it's just that some USA models played like a £1200 bass and others played like a £150 bass. Nothing that can't be fixed by a trip to a luthier but you think they'd include a good setup in that £grand+ price.
