*cough* I have a white bass for sale: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/239287-dean-hillsboro-single-bass-l180/ But yes, this is a nice one. Hate to let it go as it was my main recording bass for a long time and it looks great. It's not getting any time out at the moment as my SB320 is fantastic for both recording and playing live (lovely and light) and I also have an Overwater Classic J which has a nicely different sound to my other basses.

Thanks John I've always loved the look of this one, it's quite different to the norm. It's a nice player and I've toyed with the idea of putting a really nice pickup in there to give it a distinct sound but I'd rather have the money from this as I've got 5 basses and want a new mic, a new PC etc. etc.

Hey folks, Despite having owned a couple of electric 6 strings for a few years, mainly for recording, I've started to learn how to play guitar properly. By properly I mean learn chords and switching between them. So now I quite fancy getting myself a decent yet budget acoustic guitar. I've done a bit of research and the Yamaha FG700s looks like a winner so I'll be trying one of those (incidentally, with my Gear4Music VIP membership I can get one from them for £160 new). My budget is around £200-250 but largely depends on how much I can get trade-in for my Danelectro DC59 reissue (in white so it may be the 50th anniversary one). So other than the Yamaha, does anyone recommend any others I should try? I was thinking of an acoustic only rather than an electro-acoustic on the basis that I'll get more for my money that way. I won't be playing it live, at least not for a long time and for recording I'd mic it up anyway. I'm not opposed to an electro-acoustic though. Cheers!

Help needed ... Another Pub down due to one noize complaint !

I tried to sign it but it says "victory!" and not allowing me to sign. I wonder if it was set up to only get a certain amount of signatures? I'll keep checking back.... -
I think my "drum and banjo" genre remains a joke, at least i hope so....
Nope, I've seen too many acts like this for it not to be a legitimate genre.

Hi folks, I'm having a little bit of a bass clear out. This is my Dean Hillsboro Single bass. It's white with a tort pickguard, it's got what I think it quite a striking body shape that's different to usual body shapes that are out there. I really like it as you can see from my avatar pic! Damn, I'll have to change that when I sell this! It's got a single humbucker, a 1.56 inch width at the nut (which Google says is 39.6mm). The neck is ultra slim and it really easy to play. I'm a big fan of slimline jazz necks and this fits that description. It weighs 9lbs. Body is basswood, neck and fingerboard is maple. It's got a 2-band active EQ. It's currently strung with Ernie Ball Super Slinkys - 40-100 and is nice and bright sounding. I'm not a slapper but when I do feel the need then I pick up this bass as it suits that better than any of my others. This was the bass I bought when I first got back into playing a few years ago and has stayed with me due to its looks and playability. I'm looking for £180 for this plus delivery. Local collection is preferred but I have a box at work with some good packaging but I don't have a hardcase spare to post this in. I'm based in Bristol and anyone is welcome to pop round and have a play and a cuppa with absolutely no obligation to buy. I've got other basses to play with too and I'll chat about bass all evening Payment by bank transfer (or cash if you're picking up in person). I don't use PayPal for taking money sorry. I'll give you full contact details (email, mobile, home address) when we agree to a sale before you send any money over. I wouldn't mind looking at a nice light (has to be light!) jazz or p/j (jazz or p shaped) bass. Hi folks, I'm reluctantly selling my Overwater by Tanglewood Contemporary Jazz bass. The Overwater gumph is here: http://overwaterbass...by-tanglewood/. It's in trans-black with a flame maple top and I can't find a mark on it. It's been open-mic nighted rather than gigged and used at home for practice and recording. It's a "lightweight poplar" body, maple neck, maple fingerboard with pearl block inlays, a John East designed 2-band active EQ with a pull bright switch to give an extra few db at 5khz. The width at the nut is 38mm and the string spacing is 19mm. It weighs around 10lb 9oz so it's not a light bass but the solid feel to it gives a lovely sustained note when played. It sounds big especially when you push the bass pot up a little. It has a pair of Overwater soapbar pickups (humbuckers maybe?). It's currently strung with Rotosound Nexus coated strings (45-105) which I'm personally not keen on. I can pop some old dying Overwater nickel roundwounds on (38-98) and I'll adjust the truss rod and action to suit if you'd prefer. This is the bass I ended up with after going out shopping for bed linen. I spotted it in a music shop that I "just popped into" and ended up playing it for around 45 mins as I just loved the playability and sound of it. I hate playing in shops usually so that was a sign that I had to have it! I'm selling it as I have 5 basses and it doesn't get played. I'm finding my lighter basses (SB320 and Yamaha TRBX) are more comfortable for my light frame. It's a gorgeous bass and I'd hate to let it go but it doesn't deserve to be sat in a case all day and night. I'm looking for £300 for this, plus delivery. Local collection is preferred but I have a box at work with some good packaging but I don't have a hardcase spare to post this in.
It has something of the butt-plug about it... rather you than me, though.
I never thought of it like that before and now I can't unthink it. Not sure how it would work with the tuners but each to their own!
... SGC Nanyo are all contenders. Still great basses though.
C'mon, 'tis a thing of beauty, if a bit small!

I loved that video of the girl dancing! One of the many reasons I'm glad I moved down to Bristol, this stuff just happens around here

I'd love to hear some sounds samples as I wouldn't mind fitting some Barts and a John East preamp to my SB320. (Sacrilege that it is to mess with a classic...)
And I could never figure out how to assemble a hi-hat!
Yet it's oh so easy to accidentally disassemble one on stage!

Oooh will you videoing this one for those who can't make it?

Time+Space offered a free midi pack to anyone who had bought EZD2 who would then do a review of it. It was for hte first 20 respondents but I sent mine in too late. I got an email the next day to say that I'd done such a long review (largely based on what I wrote on the thread above) that they'd send me a code for one anyway. They had no obligation to do so but did anyway. I counted over 20 reviews on the site when I submitted mine so I knew I'd missed it but wanted to send one in anyway. Always had a good experience with them.
That's a pretty callous and hard way of telling me that you've already had your wicked way with my "baby" though.
I plugged my lead into her too.

Is it much lighter now? Both of my Overwaters (Tanglewood-made ones) weigh 10 and a half pounds or more... By the way, we seem to have very similar tastes in basses... I have your old Yammy, have one of those Classic J's and almost bought your Ibby twice from each of its previous owners! (It's been in my flat and I've played it, it's a beauty.)

Oh yeah, I lost around a dozen votes too (*ahem* *cough*). joking of course! I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I hadn't realised but I've been away for a year doing band stuff so this is my first venture back into my own weird creations. Thanks to everyone who listened, commented and voted, it's really appreciated.

FS: SGC Nanyo Bass Collection SB310 - £150

Reading the post it was the TSA officials who did the damage and not the baggage handlers. It was in a flight case and the guy reckons they took it out and dropped it.

This thread should be the wikipedia entry on bass pickup configurations. My two main basses at the moment are my Yamaha TRBX504 and my Bass Collection SB320. The Yammy has two humbuckers and has a lot of power, particularly on the bridge pickup which on a lot of basses is usually the quieter of the two due to the strings vibrating less at this part of the bass. They do lose a bit of top end - the zing, the upper mid growl as I like to describe it. It sounds more clinical and modern and electric. The SB320 has a P/J config and has that lovely zing from the split coil / single coil pickups. I do tend to favour the pickups in the middle pan position. There's a nice blend of that honky jazz bridge pickup growl mixed in with the traditional P sound. Also I do believe a centred pan scoops the mids a little due to phase cancellation (do correct me if I'm wrong). My Dean has a musicman style humbucker in the MM position that gives off a sound like a jazz bass played on the bridge pickup but with a little more bottom end presence. Sounds nice and funky/jazzy but always has a slight back-of-the-throat growl that for me rules it out for mellower stuff (I have other basses that do the mellower stuff much better so it's not so much the fact that the Dean can't do this, it's just I have others that work better).

How to monitor myself when playing without PA support?
Mornats replied to BassYerbouti's topic in General Discussion
We mostly play without a drummer so that should be fine. If we do have a drummer I can just lock onto the hi-hat that's being smashed next to my right ear and hope everyone else keeps up with us two. -
Hope this helps!
Yes it did, cheers! I also like the idea of the mic stand monitor too. I've seen those online and was tempted to try one. If I went with the in-ear option I'd consider a pair of these: http://www.thomann.de/gb/shure_se215k.htm. I'd use them for general music listening too although probably not on the walk to work as they're noise-isolating ones. They were originally developed as on stage monitoring headphones too so are ideal. -
How to monitor myself when playing without PA support?
Mornats replied to BassYerbouti's topic in General Discussion
Cheapest way is a small 2 to 4 chan micro desk, stick it on top of your rig, feed an input on that from your d.i out, headphone extension to your in ears.
I have trouble when we play smaller gigs and open mic nights. The guitar will go through the PA as will the singer, my bass is either in the PA mix or I can take my Markbass (depending on the venue). I have terrible trouble hearing the guitar as I'm stood behind the PA speakers so it's hard to lock in, especially without drums. So this sounds like a great solution for me. Or, I could simply take a headphone monitor and plug it straight into the desk. Any recommendations for headphone monitors for this? I guess wireless would be a lot more versatile than being hooked up to the desk. -
Might be nice for a few of us from the Bristol area to pop along too Do you have an idea on the venue yet?
Yes BFD3 is very much about sound control. Most drums are fairly raw and you have to decide about compression, reverb, mic selection etc. The advantage is complete control of the sound to pro levels, the disadvantage is that it can get quite complex, especially if you just want some finished sounds. There are however many kit and mixer presets to get you started.
It sounds like EZD2 and BFD3 sit in slightly different camps. EZD2 is much more centred around songwriting so has more tools for finding the right beat and getting it to sit in your mix quickly. Once you need start really tweaking the sound EZD2 will likely struggle, especially against BFD3 from what you say. But that's what Superior Drummer is for from what I've heard (I've not used it myself). EZD has a demo now by the way (finally): http://www.toontrack.com/product/ezdrummer-2/ and to be as fair as I can so does BFD3 of course: http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php?page=205 Might give BFD3 a try to see how they compare...
