1. No worries mate, like I said I learnt something whilst trying it! The good thing about Amplitube is that you can download the custom shop version (where they charge a fortune for each amp, cab, effect etc.) and get a couple of free amps/cabs to try out.
2. Cheers unfortunately that was a session bassist on that album, I joined after it was recorded so we could go gigging.
3. I've only ever played in originals bands but I found the first song we gigged way back from 1995/6: https://soundcloud.com/allan-dawson/still-alive-killing-time
4.
I have also found that on some necks, truss rod adjustments can be unpredictable once you get close to "ideal action".
I owe you guys an update! I think it was this. A lot of small tweaks over a couple of days and it's settled down fine now and plays really well. I've got basses with lower action but I had to dress the frets on one (Overwater Classic) to do that and the other is a Nanyo so a good action is to be expected Thanks again everyone
5.
Is it possible to load plugin effects into Guitar Rig or are you stuck with what NI gives you in their bundle?
You're stuck with what they give you I'm afraid.
Would I need to load Guitar Rig into something like Ableton and do it that way? If so does mapping everything to the MIDI controller then get annoyingly complicated?
You can run it in standalone mode (called live mode actually)
Can the 'modifier' rack units be used to modify more than one thing? Like... Can you set up an LFO and have it wired to several parameters, and have those toggleable on/off via MIDI?
This is pretty cool, I just checked and you can use the same LFO modifier on multiple things. I whacked it on the volume and bass tone knob of the bass amp in there and they both move in sync. You can modify up to 4 parameters with one LFO. You can add a second (or third or fourth etc) LFO modifier, set it up with different parameters and apply that to controls on the same thing. [s]I don't know about midi, I've never tried that but the settings in Guitar Rig Pro do let you set a midi controller.[/s] Just checked and I can plug my Korg Nanopad in and set it up so that one of the pads will switch one of the LFOs on and off. So yes, it can do this. Let me know if you want me to check anything else for you, I'm learning things that I didn't know before!
6. Just ordered my new tweeter today from here http://www.cybermarket.co.uk/shop/speaker-building/pa-tweeter/img-stageline-ht-30-miniature-852211.html (the other shop didn't have them in stock). I may wait until after our Bristol Balloon Fiesta gig before tampering with the combo though, just in case.
7.
Sorry I put the pics on a new thread
Which is here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/241863-fender-modern-player-short-scale-bass-bass/
8. He looks like he's having an absolute blast.
9. Not bumped this for a while, was kinda hoping I'd get a windfall so I could keep it!
10. Cheers TB Bump before I think about putting an EMG MMTW in here and keep it...
11. I've played an Ibanez SR1200 and an SR1600 in my local PMT and loved them. Fantstic to hold and play, sounded great and looked amazing. I'm not an expert but I do believe you're right in that the difference is the wood. If they sound the same to you them choose whichever one you prefer. I don't think there's a big difference between them otherwise. I'm sure the wood choice is the only difference between the SR1200 and SR1600 and the SR1800 too.
12. Indeed Once I buy a nice mic I'm gonna record the head going just into the VS cab. It's such a nice sound.
13. Tried the MarkBass combo just going into the Ashdown cab. So nice and warm with no hiss and no harsh treble. I'm gonna do that mod I think and try the combo as a 2x12 with the internal speaker and the Ashdown VS112.
14. This was on Kickstarter a while ago. They're sold out now but it looks pretty neat: http://www.thetileapp.com/ You get a little tile that I think doesn't need charging (do check though) and you can pop it anywhere. I reckon it could fit under a pickup or behind the electronics. It's Apple only so if you're an Android fan like me you'll have to look for something else. Range is limited to there being another Tile user near the item though so you'd need a lot of market saturation for it to be truly useful. Hmm, not as good I first thought then! Worth looking into still I think.
15.
Now I need to learn how to program drums!
Check out the demo for EZdrummer to see if that helps loads of pre-recorded midi files played by real drummers.
16. I only know them for their Big Bang Theory theme I should go and listen to them a bit more I think... Incidentally, if you Google "bare naked ladies big bang" you get some very boring search results... even with safesearch turned off!
17. Can't argue with what you said about the Forte. I've heard people complain about the drivers but haven't had a problem with them yet. That's not to say I won't though of course. It was above my budget and I was pushing it really to get one so it would have been out of the question to drop the extra £100 on something else. I still think whether my ears are up to hearing the difference or not but until I get our singer down again for some recording I won't know. I'd possibly need a better mic than the Shure PG48 I got cheap though...
18. I thought this would be a post about the composition challenge, darn!
19. Ok I'm convinced. I guess I can always plug the old one back in if I don't like it.
20. I'm tempted to try this mod too: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/226516-disabling-or-replacing-piezo-tweeter-in-markbass-cmd121p-combo/ which will take away that annoying hiss and calm down the treble a bit.
21. Looks cute too
22. There's always this: http://www.rock-tips.com/ which is meant to be a safer alternative to superglue. I saw it mentioned on MusicRadar and haven't looked into it so I know nothing about the product other than what's on their homepage.
23. Is this the same tweeter as in the op? http://cpc.farnell.com/_/ht-30/tweeter-8ohm-horn-100w/dp/LS00130 Mcnach, have you taken the plunge yet and fitted yours? I'm about to buy one of these...
24. Ooh well that was nice! I noodled a bit on the combo, then plugged the extension cab in and it added a whole load of lower end warmth to the sound. It took away the clinical feel of the combo. I liked it! Am I right in thinking I can just unplug the in-built speaker and use the speaker-out on the combo head and just go through the Ashdown? I'd like to try that to compare.
25. I missed the festival due to being ill We were due to play there in Queen's Square but they swapped us for more cabaret acts (they had too much music on they say). Just as well they cancelled as that would have been a pain to play whilst feeling so awful!
