1. Hey that's pretty cool!
2. Not bad advice though
3. I popped into Wunjo's when I was in London last week. I went in, they greeted me warmly. I said basschat had recommended them which they were pleased about and they treat me very well. I can't remember the two guy's names (I'm really rubbish with names) but they both said to just help myself to any bass, plug it into anything I liked and just play. They were very very accommodating and helpful. It's worth the £20 return on the National Express from Bristol just to go there in my opinion. I tried a very lovely Musicman Bongo in there which is a bass I never thought I'd get a chance to play. It was way smaller and lighter and easier to play than I thought it would be. I still prefer a dual pickup bass so if they ever get an HS in... Top shop, top blokes, highly recommended.
4. Good luck mate, it can be done! I gave up twice. Started when I was 19/20, smoked for 6 years then gave up one day when I had a heavy flu and ran out of cigs at the same time. So I didn't smoke for 3 days and they just made me sick when I tried them again. So I just didn't try to force myself to start up again and I gave up for another 6 years. Then I got divorced and ended up back on them. A couple of years ago though a mate at work bugged me about giving up and I decided to try it again as she was quite concerned about my health as a smoke bless her. This time was much tougher for me for some reason. I tried cold turkey but it didn't gel with me. I then tried the nicotine lozenges which helped a lot with the cravings and I gave up after a couple of weeks on those. I think I only bought one packet. Try the gum first though as I got a couple of mouth ulcers from the lozenges which was unpleasant. It was totally worth it in the end. For one I bought my spotify premium subscription and bass lessons from a fantastic tutor from the money saved. Also, I was unable to job for more than a couple of hundred yards before having to stop due to being out of breath. My mate from work (same one who persuaded me to give up smoking) goes to boot camp (intense army-style physical training) and has been asking if I was interested and I've put it off for a year now. Anyway I went there this Monday and surprised myself by being able to job for a few hundred yards then move onto the rest of the activity without having to sit out. So yeah, totally worth it, even if it gets tough during the giving up process. But in my experience it only takes a few days to a couple of weeks for the cravings to go so it's a relatively short time for the struggle. After that, it gets much much easier.
5. My uncle gave me his old Tascam Portastudio over Christmas so I've been meaning to give it a go and see how it all worked before digital. It'll be a great experience I bet, kinda like when I did a traditional photography course that taught more about thinking before you hit the shutter than anything else.
6.
You won't do better than this for the money: http://basschat.co.u...ectronics-l225/
I'm sorted now ta! (See above, got myself that nice Fender.) It sounded right for me in the shop and sounds good at home too. Slowly learning and gaining a little confidence too.
7. Another reason to go Android IMO.
8. You can store your ammo in them.
9. Thanks for clearing that up Molan, I do feel much better about it now.
10. Totally forgot to log on to say good gig mate and nice to meet you. I really enjoyed it. It was a good night overall with 6 bands on, alternating between floors.
11. I'm off to London for a couple of days next week and will definitely be dropping in
12.
Me too if I can get a lift from Paul. I'll bring err stuff of some sort. A couple of basses probably
Cool And don't count on him still having any of the basses listed in his sig...
13. Might pop over from Bristol for this. If I do, I'll post any details about whether I can give someone a lift. I'll know closer to the time though. I'll likely bring my SB320, my Overwater Classic J and my MarkBass CMD 121P - a new Indonesian made one that I did the tweeter upgrade to. Might be some interest in that.
14. He's in Bedford according to his avatar thing (I'm guessing you're on a mobile and cant' see that).
15. Yeah I read that thread. And I myself pointed out that Overwater had the decency to charge me £580 for a Chinese made jazz bass instead of the £2000+ I'd pay for a UK made one. I didn't know my MarkBass would be an Indonesian one until it landed and neither did Marco say that there'd be a price reduction.
16. Heh no worries most of the fancy stuff is linked to gaming where the difference between a £200 PC and a gaming one is that the cheaper one puts a game at 10 frames per second (looking like a flip book being flipped slowly) whilst a gaming one runs a game at 60 frames per second (super smooth). The good side of having a gaming PC is that it can usually do most other things really well without breaking a sweat. Plus it can play World of Warcraft hehe
17.
I think Markbass have lowered quite a lot of retail prices this year, as they have switched production of a lot of their gear from Italy to Indonesia.
I paid £725 for an Indonesian one... So if they lowered it, they did it AFTER they started shipping the cheaper-made ones. However, we don't know if they are dropping the price or whether Thomann are just doing them cheaper than most others (as they tend to do).
18. My home-built PC is over 6 years old now so is due for an upgrade. I built it primarily as a gaming PC so performance was number 1 but now I want to focus a little more on audio work so silent running is a tad more importance than gaming prowess. My old kit is: Intel Core 2 Duo with a 20% overclock. 8GB Corsair XMS2 RAM Crucial M4 SSD (main drive with Windows 7 and all my plugins/audio software on) Couple more drives for storage/apps/games. Soundblaster Xtreme Gamer soundcard (used for Spotify/CD listening not recording) So I'm looking the following Asus Maximus Ranger VII motherboard (mainly aimed at gamers and has massive overclocking potential) Intel i7 4790k Devil's Canyon CPU (this is the unlocked one for overclocking) 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 1866mhz RAM Fractal Design Define R4 silent case Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro CPU cooler (these are great, got one on my old rig. Keeps it cool with that 20% overclock and runs very quietly). I use a Focusrite Forte interface for recording and Reaper is my DAW of choice. 64 bit all the way too. The motherboard I'm looking at has a soundcard that would replace the Soundblaster if needed. Later on, once I'm happy that Win 8.1 is stable enough for audio stuff I'd move to that and go RAID 0 with SSDs and split the OS and my music software/samples/VIs onto separate drives (not sure which lot I'd put on the RAID but that's all in the future). I've not mentioned the graphics card as that's gonna be a later upgrade. I've got fan management on my current one so it powers down really low when doing audio work. So, anything I should look out for/avoid for audio work? The CPU is quad-core which Reaper will love from what I've heard. 16GB of fast RAM should handle anything I throw at it too. Also, that case is the one that Scan put in some of their Pro Audio PCs. The use of the PC will be split between home recording/mixing, gaming and photo work. With my current rig these all work fairly well in harmony. I can switch off anything that will interrupt recording (browsers with facebook in the background, skype, "your virus database has been updated" message etc). As an aside, I'm not interested in going back to a Mac/OSX so it'll be a Windows build.
19. Off-topic a little but if you're Mac-based GarageBand is a good place to start with in the world of DAWs. It's not overly complicated and is quite cut-down to the point where you're not given an overwhelming choice of things to do/click. Once you get familiar with that you'll find things like Reaper easy to deal with as you'll see the basics in GarageBand featured in Reaper and you can get used to those. Then you can start exploring the whole world of possibilities that Reaper offers! I started out on the Mac with GarageBand before moving to Reaper on the PC and it was a nice introduction.
20. £90 less than what I paid for mine from DV247 in March this year!
21.
Facial expressions aren't my forte but I'm getting there :')
Hehe I did mean that you look like you're enjoying the bass.
22. Nanyo-made Bass Collections tend to go for the criminally low price of £150-200 or so second hand and I've heard that the later models aren't as good as the original Japanese ones so I'd not want to pay as much as one of those. However, saying that... the ultimate decider is how much you think it's worth yourself (which I know doesn't help!). Every bass feels different to someone else and if this one is spot on for you then you'd pay more for it than others would. Personally, I'd not want to pay more than £100 or so for one.
23.
love Faith no More. this was from a favourite album.
Ah yes! Has to be one of my favourite FnM songs. This is the album where they matured into a really classy outfit in my opinion.
24. I don't think these are the Japanese Nanyo-made ones. They may be the Korean reissues that came out after the original company went bust.
25.
Angel Dust, pearl jam Ten, Nirvana nevermind, pumkins siamese dream all went round and round my walkman for about three years with very little else
Them were the days!
