1. does anybody know if is possible to clean up scratches on an ebonol coated fretless? if it were just plain rosewood i could just take some sandpaper to it i guess but what about this ebonol? my first guess is a very very fine abrasive paper followed by polish or cutting compound or something? the pic below is my recent purchase - i bought it as seen so not complaining about the condition - it doesnt affect the sound at all except i believe in one particular spot - E on the 9th position on the G string - always buzzes when you fret it exactly on pitch - im guessing this is due to the finer guage of the string - so it then occured to me that maybe i could polish it out or if not eliminate completely then maybe reduce the effect not too worried about the cosmetic issues but would liek to stop the buzzing on the G string at 9th here is a pic - please note i took this with a light source place at extreme side on angle just to demonstrate the effect better in the pic - under regular lighting conditions it doesnt look anywhere near as drastic as this thanks sorry nearly forgot to mention - its a squier VM J
 2. check out Henrik's playing on Dirtyloops videos - he got quite small hands it seems but manages a TRB6 quite nicely you might get berated for preferring a J to a P or vice versa or Tal to Victor or whatever but ive not seen any untoward banter on here over hand size so you should be ok

 8.
I certainly find if I can work the song out by ear, I feel more confident... I'll often go to a reputable tab site to "check my workings out" or to figure out harder bits that are eluding me, but certainly I favour learning by ear, it also gets you to appreciate the bass in amongst the song as a whole.... Which if you are going to play with a band is invaluable. I do sometimes when I get REALLY stuck, go to my guru bass teacher for some gentle nudges in the right direction
hi spacechick thought you were going to show us your vid of you gigging 'i'm a believer'

 14.
Not rock in the musical sense but there is a rock just randomly lying on my girlfriends bedroom floor. No idea how it got there (she doesnt either) but its been there for about 18 months and it feels wrong to move it. Its like having a pet rock.
ah a variation on the old favourite 'brick enlivens dull floor' routine

 18. courtesy of a recent purchase from basschat's jay i am now the very pleased owner of a squier vm fretless J - this is now my second squier and i thoroughly recommend - my only crit of the the fretless vmJ is the piece of bent tin they use as an excuse for a bridge but that is easily and reasonably cheaply remedied dont rip the frets out of your current J its a right PITA putting them back in later you might try and tactfully remind mrs zed that she can only wear one pair of shoes at a time (i hereby disclaim all responsibilty for the consequences if you fail to wear headwear that is both suitablyy protective against heavy swinging blows from cast iron frying pans but also light enough to enable a speedy getaway)
