1. might be worth running it behind a compressor if you can just to smooth the signal a bit (this is just my thinking i may be talking bollocks)
2. birthday parties are a different deal to weddings your more likely to be playing for near pub money purely because people don't generally have the budget to spend on a band however for a band of mine the least i'd be expecting is around £70 - £100 each imo this is a fair price as its a private booking but generally it'll be in a pub or somewhere like that. Weddings however are a whole other matter i'd expect to be paid at least £100 each probably closer to £150 depending on the deal (when pricing a wedding its worth having a base price you are all happy to be paid for this and then just working out how much its going to cost you and then you have a price to work from) only you really know how good your band is and how much your worth the prices i've talked about are for my band where everyone is a pro musician i'd have a quiet word with your singer and explain to him that you think that the band is worth more money of course times are tough and people don't have the same amount of cash to throw at weddings and birthdays as they used to however if its not paying extra and its a s**t load more hassle then is it really worth doing? for example if your doing a wedding thats an hours drive away and your only getting £40 each then i'm working out your probably going to spend £10 - £15 each on petrol (depending on who or how many of you are driving) which then puts you down to doing the gig for £25 each in which case if your at the venue for 8 hours that works out at £3.12/ hour edit. apologies i didnt read your post properly for the wedding that would work out at £5.62/hour which is still below minimum wage
3. i've decided to move on my Bass synth pedal its a Boss Syb - 5 new price is £129 so imo a fair price is £60 condition is used however there are no major cosmetic marks however a few minor scuffs pedal works pefectly with no hums pops or scratches postage at the buyers expense photos upon request
4. check out one of Richies guitarists a guy called David Ryan Harris awesome guy went to his gig at the elgin in ladbroke grove on monday night and ended up with him drinking in a pub in chiswick with us at 2 in the morning. Notable for playing for John Mayer but by far the best thing is his solo stuff i've never seen someone handle a room that way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWwKxxB0DZo&feature=related he takes someone like you and flips it around its pretty awesome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDvZe-44foA
5. or coming out to find the guy who fell into your speakers and trashed one of the grilles laying on your female keyboard players car bonnet and then the bass player and drummer evicting said drunk from said bonnet (btw this wasn't a pub gig this was a quite high end wedding at a mansion in hertfordshire)
6.
Just an observation, lately, I've noticed that quite a few BC'ers are resorting to insulting comments, when they disagree with other people's views, disagree by all means, but things like "grade A helmet" and worse, are totally unnecessary, and not really what the BassChat community is all about. You see! I disagree with you, but I don't need to insult you.
i think he was referring to someone on youtube rather than you here on bass chat the top comment on the video is someone who says this Oh my God. A dilettante. Ever heard of the phrase "playing in time", Mr. Deacon? And he made millions with this crap. Now I know why I never liked to listen to Queen excessively, although the compositions are magnificent, incredible, ingenious. But with this rhythm section? "Don't move dont't groove", is this Deacon's and Taylor's motto? Taylor is constantly beside the beat just as well. And they, seriously, put this on a record? f***ing sh*t. I would have kicked them out of the studio. MegaBradley01 hence the tag of "grade a helmet"
7. tbh it doesn't really make that much difference in the final mix a lot of basses sound terrible isolated but awesome in the mix agreed his subdivisions are all over the place on some parts but you have to consider would you hear that within the track i would imagine the producer thought probably not and so just left the part alone
8. hi everyone due to personal reasons i now can't do this gig so i would really apreciate it if someone could help this guy out cheers chris
9. IMO they're a good tool for augmenting an already good band for example i run a function band with 3 lead singers and 2 other musicians doing backing vox, and i could see a use for these to make the vocals sound a lot bigger especially on songs where the backing vocals are very noticable. i wouldnt for example use one in a band with only the lead singer singing because it is blatantly obvious to the audience whats going on. i beleive that for these things to truly work they shouldn't be noticed. Of course theres always going to be the muso in the audience that has a bit of insider knowledge and knows whats going on but for your average punter i beleive if its used correctly they shouldnt be able to tell
10. top man! sorry for your loss kenny but again shows the sheer quality of people here on basschat hurrah!!
11. also just spoken to him i should know tomorrow if he can sort him a ticket out mate
12. i'm sitting in with the FOH engineer on this gig for learning purposes of course
13. all the best buddy hope all heals properly for you dude
14. Hi where abouts are these guys based (i'm in west london) so trying to work out how far away it would be?
15. hi guys sorry but leeds is now cancelled due to the venue manager messing up the venue diary you literally couldnt make this stuff up
16. i find being able to talk to people whilst playing is a good stepping stone to being able to sing so maybe practice whilst talking to someone about something other than bass (obviously tell them what your doing as i hate guitards who constantly widdle whilst your talking to them) also being able to count out loud whilst playing
17. sorry indeed it is the packhorse doh!! but yeh tix are £3 on the door
18. Hi all due to some issues with a promoter and venue in Guildford one of the tour dates on the upcoming tour i'm doing has been changed to the packhouse in leeds. (this is my first tour so i'm a bit nervous) obviously such a late change means the artist (johnny ashby) has very little time to promote the gig so i'm appealing to the basschat community around leeds to come out and support this gig if you have a free saturday night and fancy some nice blues rock it would be much appreciated i'm currently working on guest list so i may be able to offer some free tickets. cheers chris
19. i started gigging in a pub covers band at 16, like its been said before i never touched a drop and i knew how to behave in those kind of places (not cause trouble ect) and so in the two years i was gigging before i was 18 i never had any trouble with any venues. Just as a note though at the end of the day if a venue doesn't want him inside at that age i don't think it makes a difference if its illegal or not i think its ultimately at the landlords discretion.
