1. is it just me or does theres seem to be a couple of amp companies who insist on turning their amps up louder than everyone else's?
2. i'll be around tomorrow if its still about?
3. haha yep just listened ohs and snare n i got em good spot
4. cheers mate the reason the snare sounds snappy is cos its a sample snare i've hardly got any compression on the snare at all but besides that thanks for the advice simon where are you thinking theres slapback on the vocal? i've run the effects track through a phaser might be what your hearing?
5. same here i think its only fair to not vote for your own
6.
We are also looking foe a new PA for the band and to hire out. That Mackie i-pad desk looks brilliant - what a great idea. Powered cabs and monitors seem the simplest solution, but which ones? The HK Audio stuff looks great.
worked with the HK stuff quite a lot its great and worth the investment check out qsc stuff as well i've heard good things about them for a desk check out the new behringer x32 desk dont be put off by the name its really a great bit of kit and as far as i know it can be synced to an ipad or iphone too
7. just be careful to make sure you don't get tired ears (yes your ears get tired) should be an interesting concept to see how it comes out maybe do a mix now for the comp and then spend a couple of days tweaking might be interesting to compare the results?
8. Her sister is on my year at uni and she's stupidly talented as well great song
9.
I would love to do this song but imagine trying to sing over this
off on a tangent here but that ain't like no jazz bass i ever saw jazz neck on a p body maybe?
10. another vote for those guys used them before great guys
11. i tend to have a tone which is as neutral as possible to record with considering the mix engineer is going to make your bass sit in the mix properly it seems silly to me dialing in a tone which is nice for me just to make the engineers job harder later on
12. its these ones they're great and with stuff like this you really do get what you pay for http://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/LEDJ-PAR64-LED-Floor-Par-Can-Silver/BHP
13. i run a function band and we have a set of four floor cans which we dmx together as uplighters and then a couple of scanners and then a couple of led par bars
14. brilliant can't wait for it to come up this way
15. yeh late night mix started on headphones should be fixed now also for that opening fill the snares doubled up heres the most recent incarnation https://soundcloud.c...1/mission-ray-6 and heres the final mix https://soundcloud.com/chris-hallam-1/mission-ray-final i've left all the links active so you can hopefully hear some progression imo this final mix is a lot wider than the other two and also there a few problems which i've ironed out
16. bit late to the party but here my work in progress mix https://soundcloud.com/chris-hallam-1/mission-ray

18. if someone replaced you in a band with his son didn't tell you and you found out on the internet would you go back?
19.
Back in the day engineers used to have Yamaha NS10s in their studios - the little speakers with the white cones that you don't see anymore. If you could get a mix to sit right in those then you'd cracked it - that mix would translate to any speakers. They did sound a bit sh*t though, but that was the point - they were uncoloured and didn't boost any particular frequency to make your mix sound 'better' or whatever. These days manufacturers make products that flatter mixes to sell more units. Also, I'm old and cantankerous.
+1 i have a pair of them in my studio at the moment i mix on ns40's and then use them as reference monitor to check mixes
20. heres a recent recording of a guy i play for admittedly its blues rock but still i think thats a pretty good bass sound for the mix and i think it stands testament that not every note under E has to be a flappy horrible mush plenty of punch but not too much "sub" https://soundcloud.com/johnny-ashby/kickstart
21. cheers thanks risingson and thanks doddy thats what i needed to hear really
