just echoing whats being said before really doubling the same di channel rarely makes any sense due to phasing however using a mic or mic's on the bass amp can be nice depending on how good your bass tone is on its own. dont forget that your di signal is exactly the same as the signal thats going to the bass amp anyway so its not too much hassle to just resend your di signal to a micd amp during the mixing stage so usually for most sessions ive done i've been on a di and let the mix engineer do his thing afterwards
hi guys so as you may have seen i've offered for jim to use my hard case for the bass relay
which will be auctioned off at the end along with the bass.
The issue is that i'm in london and he's in portsmouth and so i was wondering if anyone
was making the journey between london and portsmouth in the near future and would be able to transport the case between the two of us?
thanks
Chris

If you're sure matey, just need a way of getting it here. A case would be a great help

anyone traveling to Portsmouth in the near future? surely there must be someone on here?
wow considering i have to sight read on pretty much a weekly basis (shows and big bands)
my reading sucks time for a bit of work i think
good tool though thanks for the heads up
having had the two side by side in a studio environment the beta 58 is clearly better than an sm 58 a lot flatter response worth the extra dosh imo
(ducking for cover now)

I just heard "Men in black" by Will Smith for the first time in years, and realised how funky the bassline in that was, so i suppose that's the first one.

thats a tune called forget me not by patrice rushen

but granted still a great bass line
my way to deal with ledger lines is to find myself benchmarks for example 3 ledger lines is G (12th fret g string) 2 is E and one is C that way its a lot quicker to work out notes
i find reading actual songs a lot nicer than just short pieces (try playing through a section of a song without listening to it) and also this will be more representative of acctual reading
see the thread here with loads of transcriptions to try http://basschat.co.uk/topic/155000-individual-songs-bass-scoredots-where-from/
in terms of exams the exams i've done in sight reading have been a case of you walk in have 2 minutes (or some short amount of time) to look at the piece and then your asked to play

are ashdowns really anygood...as they well cheap secondhand??
going slightly off topic, imho they're not bad pretty reliable however they're not very versatile they do one particular sound (warm rock) well however if you dont like that sound then you wont think much of them they had them at tech for a while so i've played through pretty much the entire range and the only one i liked was the mark king signature
im sure the ashdown crew will be along shortly to tell me how wrong i am
i only play one bass which is a bacchus jazz bass 5 with bartolini pups and a j retro with that preamp it does everything i ask of it. I do own another bass which is a washburn xb120 but it doesnt have strings on it at the moment
just had an email from an artist saying that he want to use a different line up of musicians to "experiment with different musical influences"
wouldn't mind but the artist is a personal friend of mine and an email seems a bit of a cop out really and a bit unpersonal
nice to meet you dude, welcome to basschat, might be worth a nose round the for sale sections on here if your looking for a bass some good deals to be had.
trick i use if a lines particularly difficult is to listen to a little chunk say one line of the verse at a time and then try to imitate it without the track and then with the track and repeat as necessary makes an impossible song into possible chunks
disclaimer i've not listened to the yt clip as it wont work for me so just some general advice
judicious googling turns up nothing my suggestion is some black or chrome ones and a tin of this http://www.wickes.co.uk/satin-metal-spray-paint-white-400ml/invt/163097/
i think the main point for me here is that its an offer
which means you don't have to take it for example i recently sold
a pedal on here worked out a price i was happy with and posted it at that
i had a couple of people offer me lower one guy knocking 20% off the asking price (hardly a massive hit i know)
but i held firm and eventually sold it for my original asking price politly reminding the guy that he'd overpaid me by a fiver
as i counted the money.
i guess my point is that any lowball offer that you consider insulting is only that because you are unsure of your asking price
set a price that is "realistic" (of course everyones opinion of this will be different) but have the confidence to stick to your guns
imo if you dont want to be subject to lowballing just simply put "no offers accepted" on your sale
this then makes it clear that you've listed the item at your price and thats the price you want for it
apologies i seem to have rambled on
