1. Hello ladies and gents so this has just been put up by the artist (ulrika tora) from a gig on monday night thought i'd share it with you guys opinions welcome http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=qXKhhXuuHxg cheers Chris
2.
I like them Release Easy is my favourite. Definitely an early RHCP vibe and there's much Frusciante influence in the guitar. Production is very nice, I like the dry kit, but I would like the guitars to be a bit dirtier, it needs a but more filth. Great stuff though and Eth has a really nice voice.
i agree it feels like the guitars need a bit more beef to be on a par with the vocal all said nice mix sounds great
3.
I got a set of THESE which are fine, & set up quickly & easily out of the way behind the PA but I could really do with another set
Bought one of those for my band and ended up having to buy normal par cans to supplement it in the end as its not really powerful enough on its own good piece of kit in terms of the space it takes up however if you buy it i'd suggest buying two as one really isn't powerful enough to light a band we use four of these to supliment it which gives us a good range of options at venues however if i had my money back i would've bought 8 and 2 T- Bars http://www.decks.co.uk/products/LED_Par_Cans/LEDJ/LED64_Floor_Can_Black the bottom line imho is that you very much get what you pay for (i know its very easy to spend others money) however if you buy stuff on the cheap then it will look cheap
4. check out www.Garage57.co.uk built in a house in west london friendly atmosphere won't break the bank
5. same here really standard pub rate is about £250 - £350 depending on the venue if you want to make more money then your probably going to have to break into function and wedding work which ime can pay anything from £100 - £250 per head (£250 each was for a very large company) The reality of a pub band is that you are there to draw people into the pub so that the landlord can sell them more booze, and so in business terms they can't lay out more on a band than they think they can make back in a night a way to gauge this would be to propose to the venue that they pay you nothing up front but you take a percentage of the bar earnings you'll find out very quickly how much you are worth
6. run a wedding and function band of my own and we do 2 or 3 pub gigs per year as showcases for potential clients and couples we play for pub money (£50 each) the pub gets a very good 7pc band with a big following for pub money and the clients get to see the band perform before they book us so maybe that could be a possible use for your 3 free gigs a year in this pub? just so your getting something from the gigs. Generally a free place to rehearse is never a bad thing so sounds like a good deal to me
7.
Check out the version he does live with the James brown bit in it, the second I heard it we put it in our set
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o95FLUk7o9Q thats it there awesome version and everyone loves it
8. anyone got any good recomendations? have the waves plug ins and some very nice lexicon reverbs anything else i should check out? cheers chris
9.
However on your right hand you're only playing with one finger, really need to get them walking! Maybe practice some scales using strict alternate fingers, that'll also help with muting as you can bring your right hand into play as well as your fretting hand.
this. but on a good note well done for putting yourself out there to be judged its sounding great you should be proud of yourself
10. oh man if i had the money ...... serious GAS (sorry completely useless post i know but have a free bump)
11. bit more jazzy but i've seen many a music student murder chameleon by herbie hancock and red baron by billy cobham
12. My main income at the moment are my gigs and i earn enough to live off from this (i know many people would give an arm to be in that situation) however i'm finding that i have a few spare hours a week which i could potentially fill with lessons as another income stream (not wanting all my eggs in one basket) Also i've just moved into a house where there is an adjoining studio which i could use to teach and so the time seems right to start giving lessons so in answer to your question no its a combination of factors and my situation at the moment
13. hi guys i've decided to start giving bass lessons to earn a bit of extra money was just wondering if any of the other teachers out there would mind offering a bit of advice on how to pick up students? any ideas apreciated chris
14. Hi guys so the deal is i've just moved house into a very cushy pad in leafy west london, and the best part of it is ...... theres a recording/ rehearsal studio in the house with a control room tied into a live room, vocal booth and piano room with a baby grand. The guy will charge £15/h for the use of the rooms and equipment and i'm willing to engineer for £5/hr for a limited time just to get my skills up to scratch in the studio which would give you a pro quality recording for £20/hr which is a fraction of the price other studios charge and 15/hr less than the normal studio rate this offer is open to any basschat member feel free to give me a pm on here if you want to take me up on this alternatively if anyone wants somewhere friendly to rehearse that is also available feel free to give the studio a check out on www.garage57.co.uk cheers chris
15. awh damit only just seen this i'm outta town for that weekend would've come otherwise
16.
. Not so much these days but if a DJ found what got girls on the floor then the guys will surely follow. That was always the key to a good DJ night IMO
yeh thats pretty much the theory I use
17. Cheers for the advice guys i lifted the guitarists Vox which is flightcased yesterday and pretty much instantly decided that since i'm going to be moving my gear i won't bother with them i guess they're for when your rich and famous enough to have people moving your gear around for you?
18.
We do a version of that Gotye thing which is very well crafted, and people (OK, girls) sing along, but it's dancefloor death.
i play that as a DJ pretty regularly seems to go down pretty well? strange how that works sometimes, i've found songs which go down really well when a band play them bomb when you stick them in a DJ set and vice versa
19. na its just us in a splitter van so that was another option just to get some covers to put over stuff instead of cases i'll check flightcase warehouse out thanks guys
20. Hi Folks so i'm quite excited at the moment as i've been asked to go on tour for the first time ever. Unfortunately its nothing major just a few dates playing for a mate doing his songs however i'm just wondering what to do about my amp? I have a LM3 which i have a rack case for with the traveler 2 x 10 and markbass' standard 15 cab does anyone know of anywhere that would do flightcases for them or would i have to have them built for them? cheers Chris
21.
distortion due to clipping?
i'm not by any means knowledgeable about this but that would be my guess its probably a headroom thing
22.
Someone previously mentioned Wedding Fayres. Has anyone had any success with these and how did you market yourself on the day?
Most wedding shows charge a fee for a pitch depending on how big/high brow the show is this can be up to around £400 - 600 better off investing the money in a decent website and promo material/showcases imo. People will rarely book a band on the strength of a man with a laptop and showreel
23. from what i can gather from speaking to friends most people where money is no object run one receiver and then have x amount of transmitters (one for each bass) on the same frequency and tape them to the strap that way you avoid having to unplug transmitters mid set and once you take the bass off to change the transmitter goes with it but for me in my younger days when wireless was "cool" to use on a pub covers gig it was in my back pocket or strapped onto my belt
24. a lot of the guys on pop gigs are playing bass and also have a synth there to recreate synth bass parts anyway being able to play keys to a good level is becoming more and more essential anyway, however it is an awesome tool for smaller composers ect who dont have access to the kinds of funds to hire session musicians
25. and one more http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qa-CTc_LZ2A&feature=share
